Gwen sat nervously outside her apartment. She was told not to waste her gas, that Haruka was going to pick her up. She was also told to wear the best casual clothes she had. Which as just a nice shirt and some tight jeans and a pair of flats. She had her hair back in a scarf because the humidity was messing with her hair. Twiddling her thumbs she tried her best to not seem so nervous.
She’d quit both the maid and cleaning job at the diner, telling them respectfully that she found a better and more profitable place of employment. This was almost a dream, and her father had warned her to not get her hopes up but she couldn’t help it. A job that didn’t require her cleaning up vomit or feces would be a wonderful step up. A step towards the future instead of the rut they were in.
It wasn’t a job she’d let go to her head, that’s for sure. She knew what it was like to be on the bottom obviously, so she’d do everything to keep humble in nature. When she saw the rather decent car pull up, she looked to her beat up SUV with the front end banged up up, the back fender falling off, both tail lights covered with duct tape, and well more rust than paint.
She held her hands up to stop the car and kicked a broken beer bottle and the residual glass out of the way. Gwen grabbed her purse and hurried up at the door was opened for her and she took a trusting glance to Haruka before stepping in. “Hey! Guenevere McMillian. Call me Gwen. It’s easier. My dad wants to see you if you can when you drop me off. Sorry you had to drive to such a bad neighborhood.”
Easing her seatbelt on she made sure it click before nervously looking around the car. It was nice and so not like anything she’d ever ridden in, in the longest time. The difference in class was obvious.
“I’ve driven through worse places, don’t worry.” And that wasn’t a lie in the slightest. Haruka had seriously been through some terrible places, and this one... well, whilst it wasn’t exactly great, it had a lot of merits above certain other places. “I’ll be glad to come see him after we’re done. Least I can do for my new manager’s father.”
It was probably a little strange that she’d chosen her so quickly, but honestly, Haruka didn’t care. What she’d seen of Gwen had been enough to convince her that she was more than trustworthy enough... maybe even trustworthy enough to, one day, entrust with the biggest secret the two of them held. You never knew, right?
The woman clapped her hands and made a giddy noise. “Yes! Are you sure though! Like, one hundred and eighty percent sure. Because I understand if not. We just met and I don’t want you doing something because you feel you have to feel pity for anyone It’s not pleasant and it just ends in disappointment usually.” She place her hands on her cheek, her right hand still holding her purse so she looked rather silly.
“It’s just... I’d be able to see a doctor, get my father the surgery he needs.. this means he may live longer than what the doctors predicted now because we can’t afford it and don’t qualify for things. He’s my everything, the rock in my life and... You doing this for me.” Started to cry again, trying to control it. “You’re a lifesaver Haruka, and I’ll never be able to repay you for it.”
“Two-hundred percent sure.” Because Haruka liked to go above and beyond what was asked for, especially when it came to pretty girls who needed a hand sometimes. “You deserve the very best in life, I can tell that much already. With any luck, helping Michiru and I like this will help you too...”
“I wouldn’t say I deserve that. If anything I deserve whatever life throws at me, and I I’ve accordingly. This is a wonderful thing for it to throw at me.” She smiled and tucked the stray strands of her hair into the scarf. “I will do my very best, do anything you need me to. I can even help with the wedding!... If you’re needing help that is!”
Haruka chuckled. “Help with the wedding would actually be nice. Michiru and I have some ideas, but... well, we’ve not had enough time to really make any concrete plans.”
Especially since, technically, they couldn’t get married. Sometimes, Haruka really hated the dubious state of legality that her gender put her in.
Gwen smiled and watched as they went into the more upper class areas for shopping and they stopped in front of a place with an Apple store and a place that sold all sorts of regular laptops. “Why here, Haruka? Or do I have to call you Mr Tenoh? I don’t know how the relationship goes between Manager and... Uh. I’ll be honest I don’t know how it goes.” She looked around, kicking the back of her heels
Honestly, Haruka had never been sure of how it was meant to go. The manager that she and Michiru had been stuck with since they’d started performing together was all she really had to go off - the one she’d had back in Japan had just been for her racing, and nothing more. “Just call me Haruka. I don’t mind.”
She did have reasons for bringing her here. Perfectly, perfectly good ones. “For one, we need to get you that laptop I promised you... and I think you could maybe do with a new phone. It’ll help you stay in contact with Michiru and I, which is pretty important.”
“Uhm. Alright. I don’t really know the differences and what’s good and what’s not.” Guenevere admitted and put her wallet over her elbow. “I have heard that Mac is good for programmers and stuff but I just need something for organising and daily internet stuff.... And the phone. Really? I have to set up a plan and my credit is not perfect yet.” She really hated that part, kept her from getting loans when she needed it.
It wasn’t like Haruka really did either! She didn’t tend to bother with the more technical side of things, perfectly content with just knowing enough to get through whatever it was she wanted out of computers... it was at times like this that she wished Mercury would show up.
“Just let me cover it all, okay? I want you to have everything you need, no matter the cost.” One of these days, saying that was going to get Haruka into trouble, but she didn’t care. What was the point in having money if you didn’t use it to help people?
Gwen giddy hopped, clapped her hands, then proceeded to give her the biggest hug ever! It was nice and awesome and things were finally looking up. She stepped into the store and talked for quite a while with the person about what to get. Never once did she get cross when the worker obviously was at the amount of questions she was asking. She even went as far as complimenting and seeming impressed enough with his knowledge that he was soon smiling and doing his job without question.
She left with a decent one, and a few programs she’d need for doing her job as a manager. “So... We need to get a phone now?
Damn. This was just proving all the more that Haruka’d made the right choice - Gwen was obviously ridiculously patient and kind, and... well, that was what they needed. One of these days, she got the feeling that Gwen was going to achieve great things. “We do. Again, just... find one that works, and I’ll cover it all.”
“Um... Alright!” She smiled and held tight to the laptop before heading over to the phone area. She chose a phone she’s wanted for the longest time, because well, she’s always wanted one. She even got a case in a light blue for it. Purchased and a contract set up and she has no idea what she’s going to do but it’s awesome. Haruka getting one for her father as well is just amazing.
“I sure hope I will be what you expect. I’ve never done a manager position but I’ve seen the things not to do.” Gwen got into the car and placed her hands over everything in her lap. “Now what? you said something about clothing...”
Haruka practically lived to be amazing. Especially when it came to girls in need... it was one of her weaknesses, okay? She couldn’t bear to see them unhappy. “We could do with getting you things that’re just a little more professional. Much as I hate to admit it, a lot of this sort of work can be based on how you look.”
“Oh I know that... I look okay now though, right?” She asked, easing back into the chair. This was nice, and when they get to the shop for clothes she can’t help but flail. She’s never been on a store like this. She set the things with Haruka and began looking through clothes when suddenly bumped into someone who seemed to be looking for more professional clothing as well.
Someone meaning one Morgana Pendragon, who’d been sent out here by Rei to pick out something a little... flashier, maybe. It wasn’t like she’d had much call for things like that since she moved out here! “...Gwen? Fancy running into you here...”
“Who ar-?” She stopped when she said her name and smiled wide as can be. “Morgana?! Hi!” Wrapped her in a warm hug and jumped up and down during it. “Oh this is nice! What are you getting? Does it look like what you’d wear usually? I don’t know what to get... Never worked this kind of job. Do you usually shop here?”
That was possibly the most questions Morgana’d ever been asked in less than a minute! The hug was nice, though, most definitely... “This is the first time I’ve been here. I needed to pick out something a little nicer for my new job, so...”
“Oh! What kind of job do you have?!” Gwen asked smiling. It was nice, new friends that didn’t want to ask you if you had drugs or not. She really needed to get out of that hell hole of an apartment, wasn’t nice.
She really, really did, and if she asked, Morgana would help her find somewhere. It was only fair, right? “Well... I guess you could say I’m an assistant manager at... a place. A very nice place.” There was really no escaping saying this, was there? Oh well. “Well, a burlesque club. Still nice, though.”
“That sounds.... Exotic.” She chimed in, not wanting to judge or be one to judge. She did a few stripping gigs once. No harm in it right? And she wasn’t about to judge anyone else about it because hey, they aren’t bad people. Not at all. She picked up a few outfits and set them aside for her to try on later. “A job is a job, especially such a good position.”
Exotic was certainly one way of putting it! At very least, it wasn’t like Morgana had to actually dance or... anything like that. She’d be terrible at it, in her own humble opinion, no matter how many times people complimented her body. “It’s not exactly the kind of thing I saw myself doing when I came over from Ireland, but... it could end up being quite nice.”
Maybe she could even repay Merlin for all the nice things he’d done for her. You never knew.
“Do your very best! I know you will be amazing for it.” She brushed up against her arm to grab a pair of jeans that would look professional still. “Care to help me choose what to get? “ Gwen asked and picked up the stack of clothes and took it to the changing room.
Uh. Well, this wasn’t going to be awkward at all, was it? Not that Morgana could even remotely entertain the thought of turning her down... “Only if you’re okay with me saying that pretty much everything looks good on you.”
Gwen blushed and shook her head to try and get it away. “Morgana!” She turned and went into the dressing room and slipped on the first more business type outfit, stepping out and yeah, she looks good. “How about this?”
She’d already got her to blush? Score one for Team Morgana. “That looks pretty incredible on you. And I promise, I’m not biased or anything...”
“I guess...” Looked at herself in the mirror, turning and angling to see how it fit her curves. She did look good really. Guenevere left for the room to go get another outfit on. This time a very tight fitting, just above the knees red dress. When she came back she looks amazing. “How about this?”
Um. Wow. Morgana may well have temporarily forgotten how words worked. She was able to keep herself from staring or blushing, though, which was definitely a victory.“That more than works...”
Gwen brushed her hands down her sides to hold her hips and twisted around to the mirror. “Can you do the panty check for me?” Bent over in front of her to try and get her to tell her if bending over showed her panties. She didn’t want it too short. They did, and showed something a little more.
And Morgana had to rather forcefully avert her eyes to keep from having improper thoughts. Even if they weren’t in Camelot, thoughts like that just didn’t belong between a lady and... well, in this universe, another lady. “You’re showing a little too much, I think.”
Gwen nodded. “Alright, different dress.” She grabbed the longer purple and gold gown and the hair clip that went with it. When she came out, it might as well be her being royalty right now. Purple being a royal colour after all. “How’s this one?”
That more than suited her. Gwen had always suited the regal look, in Morgana’s humble opinion, but she couldn’t exactly say that without coming across as a little... strange. Damn those dreams. “You look... regal. I like it.”
“Really? Guess this one is a very much yes.” She tried on several other things before taking them up to the front. Morgana followed. “Haruka. I’d like these. Oh and! You have the paper with my phone number written down. I want Morgana here to have it.” Smiled up to her.
That sounded a little like the prelude to flirting. Haruka more than approved. She pulled the piece of paper out of her pocket, handing it over to Morgana. “Try not to spend too long texting each other, okay? Even if I could be persuaded to see it as... I don’t know, something that’ll help you work better, maybe?”
Haruka was clearly a strange, strange man, Morgana decided. Nice enough, but... still.
“I won’t. Only late at night.” And that made her blush because it sounded wrong. Sure she’d had her curious moments, but aside from one time at a party, she’d never been with another woman for more than a make out session. And why was she even thinking that. Oh goodness.
This time, Morgana couldn’t help but blush, and a particularly vivid shade of red at that - oh God, had she really...? Haruka chuckled, shaking her head. “Whatever you do in your own time is your own business, Gwen...”
“I didn’t mean it like that I swear. I’d never!” Waved her hands in front of her. “Sure there was one time at a party but... I was really drunk. And..” Flaily Gwen is the cutest thing to ever grace the planet, seriously. She gave a frustrated and very flustered noised before looking to the cashier who seemed more than a little amused.
Really, really adorable! Morgana more than approved. “I think everyone’s had a moment or two like that, Gwen, it’s nothing to worry about...” And she’d given Haruka a Look that’d no doubt made him think twice about talking, because that was the Pendragon way.
Gwen watched and things were paid for and everything and she smiled carrying them out. “So... I’ll text you later. Him and I are going to go get lunch and then I’m getting a run down of a production office. I’ll be busy.” Smiled to her then Haruka. “Thank you again.”
“Looking forward to it!” And that was entirely honest. Morgana was allowed to be kind of excited for things like that, right?
“Always happy to help a pretty girl in need,” Haruka grinned, letting herself flirt just for now. Gwen wasn’t her usual type, true, but that’d never stopped her in the past. “Let’s find somewhere nice for lunch. I think there’s a good place around here...”
