WHO: Fred Weasley, Jack Harkness
WHAT: Meeting
WHEN: Backdated to before the spread of the illness / game plot
WHERE: For The Lulz
RATING: TBD, never possible to tell when Harkness is involved.
STATUS: In Progress

It was rare for Fred to have friends come visit him at his shop (beside the occasional Hermione) -- mostly because despite all his social banter he didn't really have a ton, and the ones he did have already worked at the shop with him. So the prospect of making a new friend who was coming to visit at the shop was doubly exciting. Exciting enough for him to secure the rest of the day off to go do friend-type things with this person if he ended up being cool enough, anyway.

Whatever that meant.

And if nothing else? Well, he'd drummed up a bit of business for himself and his twin brother. And that was always a plus.

"I guess you are missing that Weasley ginger-ness to you." Fred sipped his coffee and then shrugged. "Most of us are, anyway. Me and my twin, obviously like jokes. My sister too. And most of my other brothers, as well." He shrugged with a grin. "Not all. But most."

"What is it with people and gingers anyways? Either they love it and wish they were a ginger, or they think the lot of you have no soul." Jack shrugged and sipped his coffee. "Personally? I could care less what hair color someone has."

He listened as Fred explained a little about his siblings and grinned. "I'll bet things are never dull when there's a family gathering."

"I'll bet the ladies have it a bit harder as far as gingers go," Fred said, giving a tsk and a head-shake. "I mean, no one's ever asked me if everything matches proper." Filters? What were those?

"It's definitely exciting," he agreed. "Occasionally a bit awkward, but what can you do. Come sometime. My mum loves new people. Treats them a bit like love-lorn strays though. She can't help herself, I think. Must be so bored with only my sister left at home."

Jack started laughing and he made a point of leaning over just slightly, as if trying to look under the table. "Oh? Why... are you upset no one asks? Because if so, I could ask. Or just take a look." He smirked and then winked as he sipped his coffee.

"If your mum doesn't mind, then sure. Sounds like it could be fun."

It was a rare day when Fred couldn't tell if someone was being serious or just joking -- but he had half a thought that maybe Jack wasn't sure either.

The redhead rose his eyebrows and gave a grin, but thought it fit not to respond to that.

"She'd never mind. 'Specially if you did that accent 'round her."

"The American one? Sure... I've gotten so used to speaking in it that it's no wonder no one ever believes I'm from the UK. Plus if you think it'll give her a thrill, then who am I to say no?" He grinned in response and shrugged his shoulders.

Fred laughed, finishing up his coffee. "Then I'll make sure to invite you 'round for the next Weasley shenanigan fest for sure."

"Sounds good. I'm in!" Jack finished off his coffee and leaned back in his chair. "You know, I'm glad I decided to pop over today. It's nice to finally meet some one who I get along with that's actually fun too."

"It's what I'm here for," Fred responded smoothly, mirroring his position and crossing his arms.

"Well, that and... no. Actually, just that."

"That and..." Jack arched an eyebrow, smiling as he tried to get Fred to continue his comment. "That and what? Come on... no holding out on me, Fred."

Fred laughed and shook his head. "Nothing really, actually. I'm, uh. Here. To be the fun one. And I guess the single one?"

"Nah... I'm single too," Jack replied. "Had a girl I started seeing around the holiday, but she up and disappeared on me. So it's just me and my pup at the flat."

"You have a PUPPY?" Fred said, looking suddenly like the most interested of all people in the history of anything. Clearly, Jack had been holding out on him.

Jack's eyes widened in surprise and he smirked in amusement at Fred's sudden interest. "Uhh... yeah. I have a little Cocker Spaniel puppy named Janet. Why... you a dog lover?"

"I love dogs, yeah." Fred said, giving a laugh. "I'm always sad I haven't got the room to own one. I'm a bit jealous. Cocker spaniels are sickeningly cute."

"You could always get one of the smaller breeds," Jack suggested. "Lord knows I see plenty of women here in the LA area with dogs that fit in their purses." He rolled his eyes and chuckled.

"It's like they've forgotten that the things actually have feet and can walk for themselves. You're right though... Cocker Spaniels really are adorable. That's mainly how I ended up with the little girl in the first place. I happened to see her in the window of a petstore and just couldn't resist those big brown eyes."

"I just don't have a purse to match a dog," Fred joked, amused as ever. "But that's adorable. Maybe I can meet her, sometime."

"Me neither. Although I have been told that I look fantastic in heels," he joked back in response. "Sure though... I don't mind. She's an attention whore anyways, so I'm sure Janet would love another person to jump all over."

Fred literally giggled over that. He couldn't picture it. He wasn't sure he wanted to.

"Haha. I guess it's a date then."

Jack smirked and arched an eyebrow, but didn't comment about that. Fred was cute, he was fun, and a bit flirty as well. But something about him was throwing Jack off in terms of signals. To be honest, it was a nice change of pace!

"Sounds good!"

It was probably the fact that despite being cute and flirty, Fred had no real idea on how to socialize on a level that was not just making jokes. Maybe he worked too much.

"Excellent," he said, and smiled like a Cheshire about to get cream.

(( fade? for partner points? hee hee I am always down for new threads though! ))
