Don't look so suspicious Fenris, I'm hardly up to anything at all.
Who: Bethy and Fenris
What: Bethy begins phase 1 of ‘get Marian married and knocked up’
When: Last Friday
Where: I dunno?
Status: Complete
Rating: PG-13 for mention of Isabela's lack of pants
After talking with Merrill, Bethany had gotten it in her head that her sister would make a wonderful mother. She also knew the only way to become an aunt would be to apply the appropriate pressure to the appropriate places.
Phase one: Fenris.
Tapping her staff along the ground, she approached him at the comedy club, a mischevious smile on her face.
Whenever a Hawke approached him with a smile like that, Fenris knew it was time to be mildly perturbed. Nothing that came with that sort of look ended well. Ever. “What are you planning, Bethany? Some terrible evil against your sister?”
That was what siblings did, right? He didn’t exactly have much experience with the subject.
"Oh no, quite the opposite, Fenris. Are you busy? Can I buy you lunch? We need to talk, it's quite important!"
Bethany leaned on her staff in front of Fenris, knowing he was probably iffy about the whole mage thing. She kept some distance between them for that reason.
She might’ve been a mage, but so was Hawke. It wasn’t like Fenris couldn’t tolerate them - he liked to pride himself on being a little better-adjusted than his dream self. “I... suppose. Doesn’t seem to be much need for me at the moment.”
This was already more than a little suspicious. Damned mages and their... specialness.
"Perfect!" She grabbed his hand and started to drag him off. She figured they could borrow her sister's car. She was doing this FOR Marian after all!
"Don't look so suspicious Fenris, I'm hardly up to anything at all."
To his credit, he went along with it, and not only because he was worried for the safety of his pants if he went along with it - you could never be sure what mages would do if you refused them. “You’re a Hawke. You’re always up to something.”
"Now that's an unfair generalization due to my sister being a sneaky, conniving woman." She replied, opening the car and sliding in, "I did learn from the best, didn't I?"
She waited until he was in the car, and thus trapped, before adding, "When am I getting a niece?"
Ah. Somehow, Fenris was surprised he hadn’t seen it coming, considering how quickly things seemed to have progressed with Merrill. “I... don’t think that’s likely to happen for quite some time. I’m sure your sister would say much the same.”
"I don't know. Just stop using birth control and let nature take it's course." She started to drive, chewing her lip thoughtfully, "Are you at least going to make her an honest woman, Fenris?"
Wasn’t that meant to be a private matter? Fenris was quietly thankful that he wasn’t the blushing type, having become largely immune to this particular sort of insanity at his time working at the club. “Perhaps in time. I doubt she’d want to be tied down so easily.”
“I’m sure she’d want to be tied down by you Fenris. Just use silk rope.” Because he’d walked into that one, and as a Hawke, she was duty bound to catch him in it.
“I mean that seriously too, you make her glow. I’ve never seen her this happy.”
Try as he might to maintain a straight face, Fenris couldn’t quite manage it. What had he gotten into with this family? Each one as insane as the last... “Do you often think of your sister’s sex life, or is it just an unhappy fact of being related to her?”
He could’ve made a sarcastic comment about the glowing, but passed it by as being far too obvious. Especially now that his tattoos were almost completed. “It’s a hard-won happiness. Well deserved after so long of us both being oblivious to it all.”
They weren't insane. They were Hawkes, "Well look at you. It's a pleasant thing to think about." Bethany grinned at him, not serious in the slightest, "I'm glad. She needs something like that. Especially with mother gone, and these dreams making worse."
In a way, the dreams were just the slightest bit more tolerable than thinking of Leandra’s death. At least they had their moments of happiness... “You should’ve seen her face when my ears changed. I think some part of her might’ve exploded of happiness.”
"I think she finds the ears sexy. I wouldn't really know, I think I spent more time staring at Isabela than anyone else." Not that it was hard to stare at Isabela. She wished she were around...
"Anyway, you make my sister very happy and I think you'd be pleasantly surprised. Maybe you could start with living together."
Bethany staring at Isabela? And he hadn’t noticed? Clearly, his dream self had issues paying attention to the world around him... then again, really, pretty much everyone had stared at her. It was a legitimate consequence of not wearing any pants.
“As long as living together doesn’t mean we have to start planning weddings or... babies.” Quite honestly, he doubted he’d be anything close to a decent parent. Hawke hardly seemed any better.
"Okay, for now," Bethany said, knowing she'd have to find Hawke's motherly instincts some how. Because that somehow seemed like a good idea! Bethy nodded her head, "Fair enough!"
If Bethany ever managed to find said motherly instincts, Fenris would likely give her a medal of some kind. It seemed more than impossible... although, perhaps Merrill’s unexpected everything would bring it out in her. You never knew.
“...You’re still going to plot more, aren’t you?”
"I'm a Hawke, Fenris. It's in my blood."
