Entry tags:!complete, clint barton (hawkeye), eowyn, truthiness plot

Who: Clint and Eowyn
When: Current
Where: A Park
What: Beer and hanging out!

Clint pulled into the park they'd picked to meet and did a quick once over in his mirror. Nothing too serious but he had tried to look more like a decent human being as opposed to crazy survivalist freak the way he sometimes came off when he'd been spending the day at the range. Luckiy, his shirt had an actual collar and wasn't wrinkled, and his pants were clean and boots looked clean without being too shiny or anything.

Not that he was out to really impress Eowyn from the Valarnet. ...Oh who was he kidding, of course he was. But he wasn't going to say it out loud if he could help it. After all, he didn't want to scare her off somehow. That would be a problem, since he really thought they had a good shot at being friends if nothing else, and he didn't want to put her off. Er anyway.

He was clean, he looked decent and not like he'd crawled out of some pit in the ground and into the real world, and he had a paper shopping bag filled with single bottles of several different local brews and microbrews, along with some paper cups with animal faces on them. What? It'd been what he could find.

Okay so there were also a few boxes of crackers and some cheez whiz and a can of peanuts just because they seemed to go with beer. He'd also dredged up a towel that they could sit on. So, he was prepared in other words, and all he had to do now was locate Eowyn. Had she gotten here yet?

Eowyn just laughed, shaking her head slightly. "Oh, come on, it hasn't even been five minutes. I doubt we need to jump straight into the awkward. Tell me what it is you do?"

She lilted it like a question, which it wasn't, strictly speaking. But grammar was a cruel mistress, and she'd just have to make do.

Grammar was one of those things Barton never really stressed over. Okay, so he'd probably turned most conventional curses into active verbs and then used them as adjectives before, but that was just one example of the ways it could be messed around with. And frankly, if Grammar didn'tlike it, well, Grammar could go suck it.

"I've got a shooting ranger in Ayers Canyon." Clint explained. "Hence, the reason I seemed obsessed with guns on the internet. I teach a few qualifying classes, that kind of thing; occasionally I coach along a decent archer if they get passed on to me. So...not a lot these days." It implied that earlier on there had been more going on there, but he wasn't really going to talk about himself all day. "And you, then?"

She noticed the omission of whatever came before 'these days' but didn't press him. What was the point? If he didn't want to talk about it, she'd be the last person to force the issue.

"Soul-sucking corporate drone. You know, the usual crap you get stuck in after realizing just how bad your student loans are."

"Sucky." Clint made a face at that. Sure, the army had sort of chewed on his soul for a while there, but they'd returned it with everything intact. "I'm pretty lucky as far as that goes for skipping the whole college experience. Not exactly any smarter than I used to be, but..." he shrugged a little. "It works I guess. Major then? Oh god this sounds like some kind of job interview, and I am so so horribly sorry." He added, ducking his head a little bit.

Eowyn just laughed, throwing a little bit of a cracker at him. "Tell you what. Instead of rehashing our life stories, let's do something reckless and stupid."

"I'm up for reckless and stupid." Clint stretched a little, leaning forward. "So. We going for the kind of reckless and stupid that'll get the cops here, or just the kind that makes people start starring at us like we need to visit the nice people in the white jackets?"

Eowyn just grinned.

"How about parasailing at the beach?"

"That? Sounds incredible. I've never really done the parachute involving things when it wasn't deadly serious." He confessed. Luckily he had no specific trauma that was going to crop up from being near a parachute, at least nothing that came to mind, so that could work. Besides, the shit therapist had said he needed to start making new associations so why not start there. "When you go reckless and stupid, you go all out." Clearly, he approved here.

"Reckless and stupid are the only way to go!" she said cheerfully, standing up and holding out her hand. Innocently, of course.

"... but wait, deadly serious? This is just gliding behind a boat up in the air. Barely reckless and only a touch stupid. I take it you've done the real thing out of a plane?" Hadn't he said he was ex-military on Valarnet or something?

Clint took her hand and got up with a grand gesture. "Completely." he agreed, with a little flourish as he stood. "Well and helicopter." he answered, trying to shrug it off as much as possible now that it was out. "In a past life, about three years ago, I was in the army, so..." he shrugged. "We saw some things. But hey, gives me the edge right now, huh?"

Boy, if there ever was a barbed wire fenced, do not approach sign laden area in a conversation, this was it. Eowyn tactfully let the subject drop. Everyone had their ghosts.

"I suppose we'll see, won't we?" She gave him a particularly wicked grin and dragged him towards a cab.
