Nick had woken up late, which meant he hadn’t had any time to stop and get coffee that wasn’t half sludge, half acid wash. At least that was the way it tasted. He ran his fingers through his hair after taking his winter hat off - something he’d had to get just because it seemed that the OC was intent on having snow practically every day. He wanted to make sure that his hair looked at least somewhat decent...even if he hadn’t gotten the chance to shave before leaving either. Needless to say, it was a bad day and, as he studied the sludge that passed for coffee at the station, he had a feeling it was only going to get worse.
Rubbing the sleep from his eyes for what felt like the third time that morning, Nick grabbed one of the cups from the station and put in far more sugar and cream than necessary before pouring coffee into the cup. If he was going to suffer through the stuff, he was at least going to try to make it as bearable as he could.
It wasn’t until the second sip in that his mind really started. Where was Judy? Usually she was always right there when he showed up and he was only just on time. Maybe she was in the bathroom or somewhere else he couldn’t see. He took out his phone for good measure before texting a simple Hey, Blondie. Didn’t fall into the toilet, did you? What with your bunny-like stature.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket, and Judy pulled it out with a frown. She rolled her eyes at the text from Nick, and using her teeth she pulled one glove off. No, had that happen in the dreams. Not fun at all. I'm out back watching the snow fall.. She paused for a moment, glancing over at the two coffees that had probably cooled enough to be drinkable before she sighed and then typed out, I also have your coffee with me. Better hurry, it might get cold.
Tucking her phone back into her pocket, Judy put her glove back on. Nick might be a tad annoying, he was her partner, and it was her job to take care of him. Even if she'd had more dreams, and well, he was apparently in her dream world and a fox of all freaking things. Judy had startled herself that morning when she'd finally looked at herself in the mirror. Her bright blue eyes had shifted to a vibrant violet and well, it was weird. Judy wondered if one day she'd wake up and actually be a bunny. Now that would be really weird.
Nick laughed at the response. He didn’t really know what to say about the dreams. He had a feeling that the weird dream about being a fox was supposed to be one, but he was happy to live in denial. He’d decided against mentioning it and instead just teased Judy about her being a bunny in her dreams. But when he saw the part about the coffee, he had to pause. In some ways, Judy had grown on him, but he still didn’t really get the peppy attitude and wasn’t what you’d call peppy. He was annoying and difficult. He knew it, but he also knew it was easier to be annoying and difficult than to let people grow on you. You would be, he replied back. Thanks, Blondie. You just saved me from having to drink sludge.
He made his way outside, pulling his jacket back on as he went along with the snowhat. He didn’t really want wet hair, so it was best to wear it. “So where’s the coffee,” was the first thing he said before he allowed for a quick, “Oh, and good morning.”
Making a slight sound of annoyance, Judy pulled her phone back out and once again pulled her glove off with her teeth. She really needed to invest in gloves that were smartphone compatible. A light smile ghosted over her lips at that. She hated the coffee at the station, they'd talked about that before, and she'd stopped by the coffee shop on her way into work. Buying two just seemed like the right thing to do.
A small smirk settled on Judy's lips. "Good morning, and it's over there." She gave a small nod of her head toward a pillar that had been cleared of snow. There on top sat a carrier with two coffees, "Your name is on the side of yours." Judy replied, finally looking over at him. "I got you your usual."
Nick didn’t really invest in gloves, which was probably because he didn’t really need them most of the time. He’d only gotten the jacket and the hat because it was snowing. He smiled as he made his way over to the coffee, noting the one with his name. He decided not to comment on the fact that she knew how he took his coffee. Small moments of kindness. Also it might be weird if he said something. “I don’t say this often, but you are an angel. Don’t get used to this.”
He took a sip of the coffee and everything felt a little less terrible. This was not shit coffee. He didn’t have to drink terrible coffee and his day was instantly better. He was only a couple sips in when he noticed something hanging on the front of the building. He set the coffee down and looked up. “Mistletoe? Honestly? If the chief weren’t such a sullen person, I’d think he had something to do with this. Did you do this, Blondie? You know, if you wanted to kiss me...well, that’s a little weird, but you probably should have said so.” He tried to laugh, but he felt a shift in his thoughts and suddenly he found himself wanting to kiss Judy.
Laughing, Judy canted her head to the side. "Promise that I won't get used to it." Although she'd store that away for use later on. Maybe, well, probably. "Since I know how much of a pain I am more often than not." She gave Nick a look, a slight smile tugging up one corner of her mouth.
Judy was content for the moment to just watch the snow as it fell. She hadn't been expecting it, she'd heard that it was possible, but she'd never dreamed that they'd be getting all of this. It was nice, and she was seriously enjoying it. Her brows furrowed low over her eyes, and she glanced up to where Nick was looking. When did that get there? Had it been there? Judy wasn't sure, but she snorted softly. "I didn't put it there." She admitted, although she thought that she too wanted to kiss him. What was up with that? He was a good looking guy, annoying, but good looking. Then there was that whole he was a fox in her dreams, but even as Judy was thinking these things she was moving toward him like she had no control over her own motor functions. What the heck was going on?
Nick wanted to say he understood what was happening. Judy was his partner and sure she’d just done something nice, but that was really no reason to kiss someone. Sure, she was cute and she kept trying to be nice and spread her peppy cheer to the world, but that wasn’t really a reason to kiss her either. All the same, he found himself cupping her cheek with his hand and leaning in to kiss her. Were her eyes always that color? Mistletoe had honestly never made him behave like this. Usually he just ignored it, but for some reason he was there, kissing Judy like it was perfectly normal behavior.
Judy honestly had no idea what was going on, but she wasn't exactly thinking that it was a bad thing. Her hands went to rest on his sides, fingers curling to grip the fabric of his jacket. Warmth spread through her at the touch of Nick's hand against her cheek, and she kissed him back as her eyes fluttered closed. After a few moments Judy pulled back, eyes still closed for a moment before they opened wide. "I uh…" She cleared her throat, hands releasing their grip and she took a quick step back, her cheeks bright red.
The kiss over, Nick found that he couldn't move. This was not on. “Yeah.” Because he didn't know what else to say. He definitely hadn't meant to do any of that, but now he was going to be thinking about it. What the fuck had happened? “Thanks for the coffee,” he said before picking it back up and walking back inside. Was he good at this? No. Was that probably a dumb move? Yes. But he had no idea what else to do and he needed to think about what had just happened.
Swallowing hard, Judy gave a small nod. "You're welcome." Waiting for a moment after Nick had went inside the building so she could collect her own thoughts. Why was this her life? Right, it was the OC where strange shit happened. Taking in a deep breath, Judy picked up her own coffee and headed inside as well confident that today was going to be awkward as hell.
