Marian Hawke attracts a curious type of fortune. ([info]justoneweek) wrote in [info]valarlogs,

WHO: Marian Hawke & Fenris.
WHAT: Reconciliation.
WHERE: Hawke's Apartment.
WHEN: After Bethany wakes up.
WARNINGS: TBD

Marian entered her apartment, exhausted but for the first time since her mother had been killed ultimately at peace. Leandra could not be brought back, and there was no changing that.

But Bethy lived, and the woman had been stopped. She didn't believe Garrett had killed her brother in cold blood; the need to put order to events and make out that a loved one was a hero rather than a villain was not at all uncommon. She'd seen it in the Boston PD, and she wasn't surprised to see it here.

She just was tired. Her mother could be at peace. Maybe now she could be too.

Fenris had done his best to hide the markings. Their spread seemed to have continued unabated since that night, now winding their way up his arms and partially onto his chest and neck. It was certainly strange to see.

"I felt I had to," he gave a slight shrug. "We caught that... lunatic. Your sister is safe... hiding from you all over again seemed pointless."

Marian looked down at her hands, unsure what to say next.

"Hiding in the first place... you didn't have to. I know the markings scare you, but you've never once hurt me with them." She'd had enough dreams now to be pretty confident of them.

He'd hurt her by leaving.

"Now that I know just who cursed me with them, I think I can believe that." Dreaming of Danarius, at long last, was almost a relief. True, it'd been one of his most unpleasant dreams yet, but he finally knew the answers to at least some of his questions. "I... simply wanted to be sure."

He knew he'd hurt her by leaving, but it'd honestly seemed like the logical thing to do at the time. Making decisions when just awoken from one of those dreams clearly wasn't his strong point.

Marian nodded, still looking up. "I see."

Except she didn't. Honestly she had no clue what exactly Fenris wanted. She trusted him, respected him, and desired him like crazy but she could never claim to have figured him out.

The silence was all she could offer. Everything else was a shade of grey.

"You're a terrible liar, Hawke." In all the time Fenris had known her, she'd rarely been able to fool him. At least she was nowhere near as bad as her idiotic brothers seemed to be.

A pause. There had to be something he could say... "Have you dreamt of something called a Blade of Mercy?"

There. Dream talk. That was something simple and easy.

They were hopeless.

Hawke nodded, finally looking at him. "I gave you it. You weren't impressed."

To put it mildly.

How could she have ever expected him to be impressed? The blade was from Tevninter, and that was hardly a place of happy memories for Fenris. Between the Magisters and Danarius, he'd have been happy to see the blighted place wiped from existence.

"I dreamt about that. And when I awoke, the blade was leaning against a wall in my room." And his markings had extended another few inches up his arms, but that could remain unmentioned. "I wonder if this is meant to be a way of preparing us for something."

Well yes, but Hawke wasn't exactly quick on that particular uptake. She thought everyone had to have some decent memories of their homeland.

She looked down at the floor again, shrugging slightly. One hand glowed with spirit energy, and faded. "I don't wonder it, I'm sure of it. And whatever it is? Frankly terrifies me."

Fenris clearly wasn't 'everyone'. The dreams of Danarius had made that more than clear, even if he couldn't remember a thing prior to getting his markings.

"We'll get through it. Even if I'm worried your brother doesn't exactly know what end of the sword he's meant to hit things with." He was at least half-serious. Carver was hardly the most competent man in the world at the best of times. "It's not like we're the only ones to have... things like this."

"At least there's no Templars here," she said, although her tone was absolutely joking. She knew from her memories what it meant to be hunted and threatened.

Fortunately, none of her memories showed temptation. Well, not of the demonic kind, anyway.

"Although I'm still not going to run about lighting things on fire." Her accent, so typically Boston under normal circumstances was changing, just slightly, and a bit more every day.
