The Jean Grey Outreach Center, as it was officially called, was kind of a mouthful and ain't no one got time for that, so Neal usually referred to the place as 'the ranch.' Especially when he was talking about one of his places of employment (the other, Regina's home-run interior design business, he'd be heading to later today). It was just easier that way, and keeping it simple was preferred. But when it came to professional correspondence and the like, and hiring new people, they needed more info than 'there are cows here.' Vilya seemed like she'd find a niche in their happy home. Now that Scott had left, with Logan taking over ownership, Neal began to be more involved in the day-to-day tasks necessary for running the ranch, and he also helped out with the hiring. As in, networking and reaching out to those who might be a good fit for the place. It was a large center, and there were a lot of jobs - he spent a lot of time there too, but he couldn't do everything. Vilya was hired on as a counselor assigned to the younger girls since that's where she had the most experience - Neal made sure the horses were always readied, in case she took anyone out on the trails. That was part of his job, the dirty stuff, besides making sure the more unruly ones didn't set anything on fire. The main office with the best view of Trabuco Canyon had been Scott's, but Neal had his own in the modern ranch-style house where the other counselors had theirs as well. Vilya was hopefully getting settled into hers, and around lunchtime Neal said hey to Jen, the secretary that had been there since the center's inception, and went a few doors down to knock on the newbie's. "Just me," he announced. "Came to see how it was going?" |
