Entry tags:david nolan (prince charming), grantaire, jack harkness, james hook (captain hook), severus snape, sharon carter

Who: James Hook and whomever
What: Open bar post
When: July 19
Where: A bar
Rating: Starting low, will change if needed
Status: In progress

It's been a long week, but it's Saturday now, and James has decided it's time to relax a bit. Maybe he'll take the boat out tomorrow, but right now he feels a little more social. Perhaps he'll meet some new friends.

So he settles in at the bar and orders a glass of red wine to start the night with. Hopefully someone will come by who's interesting enough to hold a conversation with.

Grantaire was, okay, he wasn't bored. He had plans for his margarita truck once the whole liquor license came through. Temporary or not, the second he had seen the ice cream truck that could also be rented as a margarita truck in Inglewood, he had known he needed to rent one. It was just one of the variety of ways he came up with his money for rent. Normal jobs? Not his style. He just didn't last at them. Gambling was good. So was fighting. So were any of the odd end jobs that didn't take long periods of time to complete.

It was just another night and as much as he enjoyed Enjolras' company (anyone with a brain could see that he was still desperately in love with his roommate, except said roommate), there were just times he needed to get out because it was too painful. And because he enjoyed bars for the people watching. And the variety. And the atmosphere.

Getting another glass of whiskey, the artist was about to drink and sketch when he noticed Hook. The guy who had a little girl tell him he was a pirate. That had been an amusing conversation and even in all his self loathing, Grantaire was good at playing the fool and being personable. Why not make conversation? It was better than pining away pathetically with his whiskey.

"Well look, a familiar face. How are you doing tonight?"

It takes him a moment to recognize who's talking to him, but when he does he smiles and sets his drink down to offer his hand.

"Ah! My friend from the message boards. Good to see you in person, finally. And how are you this fine evening?"

One thing could be said for the network. People could be recognized and connections feasibly made. They were living in a world of technology and it seemed those on the network had more in common in their own way in terms of the dreams. Even so, it was something. It was the world they were living in, might as well make use of it. That was the way the theory went anyway.

"That's me."

Smirking, Grantaire raised his glass in greeting about being the friend from the message boards.

"Likewise. I'm quite well. Enjoying a drink and watching the people."

That was the way of it. No need to divulge part of his reasoning to get out for the night. People watching, drinks, that was all that was needed. It was easier to focus on that around people as well.

"How about yourself?"

"About the same, really. After all, one must take a break from being a pirate some time, mustn't one?"

He sets his drink down in order to offer his hand with a rakish sort of smile. "James Hook. Pleasure to meet you in person."

"How is the pirating life going for you?"

Really it was amusing to him. That entire conversation had been, really. Small children had an amazing perceptiveness to them. His niece was very perceptive, even just on the phone or over Skype when he would call his sister to make sure everything was okay. His father may have disowned him and demanded that he cut off ties with his sister, but Margot had always had something else up her sleeves. She just couldn't help him but they could still talk. Perhaps it was through his niece that he had an affinity for children and took what they said relatively seriously. Who knew.

Still. The kid had been perceptive. If you have a boat, and you have a hook hand, then clearly you are a pirate. Simple math.

"Grantaire. Meeting in person is always so much more than just on the network." Offered hand taken and given a firm shake, Grantaire returned to his whiskey.

David isn't exactly a frequenter of bars. He likes a good drink as much as the next man, though, and his latest round of dreams has sort of made him think a drink is due. Besides, weird things happen in the OC, and he's a bit nervous at the prospect of going to sleep and falling under a sleeping curse.

So he makes his way into a bar, settling up at the counter where he orders a beer, giving the man next to him a polite nod.

Hook nods politely back and sips at his drink, studying the man next to him for a moment. The face is a little familiar -- someone from the network, probably.

What's interesting, though, is the thoughtful, if slightly nervous look on his face. "You look like a man with a lot on his mind," he offers, by way of conversation.

It's true, there is something familiar, but David's gotten used to the strangeness of the OC enough to not put much stock in that sort of thing. His guess would be the network, too.

"I guess," he replies, smiling a bit. "Would you believe me if I said it was a dream thing?"

"Aaaah, yes. A dream thing. I've heard of those, though never experienced it myself."

Still, one should be polite, and he moves over to offer his hand in greeting. "James Hook. A pleasure to meet you, my thoughtful friend."

David raises an eyebrow, but he shakes the man's hand with a smile.

"The guy who posts pictures of himself as Captain Hook, right?"

A bar is the perfect place for a man who has troubles, right? So Severus Snape thinks as he slinks, sadly, into the place. It's the opposite of his scene, actually, but that doesn't stop him from moving over to the bar to order... something. At home he drinks wine, so he settles on ordering a glass of that here. The price is higher than simply buying a bottle and drinking it at home by himself, but then he'd be alone. And he's tired of being alone.

He's so lost in his thoughts that he doesn't recongize the man he sidled up next to. He keeps his eyes on the disposable coaster set on the bar in front of him by the bartender.

Well, Hook can certainly understand why Severus is here tonight. Anyone going through troubles of the heart has every right to find his way to a bar and drink himself out of his misery. Or try to, anyway.

He hesitates, not sure if Severus wants to talk, then asks, "How are the tardigrades?"

"Microscopic octopeds, same as ever." Severus responds with a sigh. Not that the question irritated him, but he's pretty much sighing at everything lately. Sighing is better than bursting into tears in public.

He turns to glance at Hook and gives him a nod. "And the law?"

"Ever flexible, as always."

Severus looks so helplessly melancholy, and Hook is compelled to squeeze his shoulder in a companionable manner. "I'm sorry to hear about your predicament. If I can be of any help at all, do let me know."

"If we don't bend, we break," Severus says, thoughtfully. Always full of those fantastic one-liners. He sighs again, though a little less deeply, and lifts his glass to sip from it. He needs something stronger, but doesn't want to be incoherant by the end of the night. Slightly numb is where he's aiming.

"Thank you," he answers, almost darkly. "I'm afraid there's not much anyone can do. She's looking for something else, and I'm left to try and recover from the loss. But I appreciate the sentiment."

Sharon's trying to be as supportive as she can to D'Artagnan, as he tries to suss out what steps he wants to take in his professional career. She can't help but be a little hurt? Or a little concerned or confused or... generally upset about the idea that he might take this job at the Agency and leave her behind. Not that she can blame him, though. He's a good man, and deserves a really good job. And things are not great for either of them at the department. The old badges give them hell. Sharon isn't exactly the type to roll over and take orders blindly.

At least she can take some time to have a drink on her own. Hopefully it'll be relaxing instead of stressful. It's a nice night, so she walks a block or so from where she parked to the bar. There's a patio outside, one that's fenced in. It seems like a nice place to sit and have a drink. But first she needs to get one. She moves up to the bar and leans against it, waiting to get the bartender's attention. He seems a bit busy with a group down at the far end of the bar.

Never let it be said that James M. Hook is one to ignore a lady in distress. And a lady waiting too long for a drink is certainly distressful.

So he raises his voice to call to the bartender, raising his hand a little to catch his attention, "Excuse me, sir. I believe this fine young lady is waiting for some assistance."

Certainly distressful. As independant as Sharon is, she does appreciate a little help every once in a while. Even from a man. She turns to give him a thankful smile, and pauses at the sight of the man who'd just given her said assistance. Wow. Good-looking. She clears her throat.

"Thank you," she says to the man, then turns to the bartender. "I'll have a Sierra Nevada, please? From the tap."

As the bartender turns to pull her beer from the tap, Sharon turns to her savior once more. "I probably would have waited an hour if you hadn't gotten his attention for me.

"What sort of gentleman would I be if I didn't help a lady in need?" Hook grins at her and leans against the counter, his expression open and friendly.

"And who do I have the utmost pleasure of meeting tonight?"

"Not much of one, I guess." Sharon replies, returning his grin with a small smile of her own. Almost a shy one. Sharon's not really shy, but she's also not really used to being a damsel in distress.

"Sharon." The bartender sets the beer down in front of Sharon on the bar, and she gives him a gentle "thanks" before turning her attention back to her savior. "Sharon Carter. And you are?"

Jack had never been the type of person to go to a bar to drink. People watch, catch a football game, or other things? Sure. But drinking wasn't really his thing. For today though, he was going to make an exception. He wandered in and sat down at the bar, ordering himself a vodka tonic as he looked up at the telly in the corner. Work had been a nightmare today and it was going to take forever to fix the problems with the new game.

"You know," Hook comments casually from his place near Jack, glancing over at the television as well. "Despite being English, I never did take much interest in football, so the World Cup was lost on me.

Thank god it's over, and we can get back to being forced to watch other sports I don't care about while we drink."
