Who: Rachel/Rarity and Padme Amidala
What: Rach needs a lawyer
When: Following this conversation, the day after the Superbowl
Where: Weasley and Winchester
Rating: TBD (most likely low) / talk of non-fatal car accident
Status: In Progress

Rachel was dropped off outside the offices of Weasley and Winchester by the car service. They would wait until she was finished with her meeting, and then take her straight home. It was a good service, and the dude behind the wheel, Marcos, was a great guy. Kevin had protested about going in to work today, but Rachel had insisted. She needed to rest, and wanted to be alone when she got home.

Anyway, she wanted to ask Ms. Amidala some questions about what her rights were, what she should do to protect herself, and if she needed to file any paperwork to make sure that she didn't have to pay for a) her car, or b) her medical bills.

Hey, maybe she could even get some pain and suffering out of this. That guy was a douchebag, and she wanted not only to be compensated for the traumatic experience, but to make him suffer, too.

She stepped into the office, and was directed to Ms. Amidala's door. She knocked gently and waited.

It had been a while since Padme had to deal with something as simple as this since it was covered in undergrad, so she had to do a bit of investigating and talked to Percy and Sam before deciding that she was refreshed enough to take on the client. She was thankful that Rachel wasn't hurt at all, which made this easier and wouldn't cause as much trouble for either of them.

She heard the knock and called out, "Come on in!" She was finishing up an email to someone and pressed send as Rachel entered the door, so she lifted her head up and smiled brightly. She pushed herself off the chair and reached a hand out, "Welcome, so nice to meet you. I'm Padme."

Well, not permanently injured. Rachel's collar bone was broken, and she'd sustained a very, very minor head injury. Also, her shoulder was wrenched from its socket, but other than that... She'd need to go back in for a couple of follow-up visits, just to make sure everything was healing fine after the accident.

A tired smile broke out across her face as she pushed open the door, and Rachel stepped into Padme's office. "Hi. I'm Rachel." She reached forward and shook the other woman's hand with the hand that wasn't constricted by a sling. "It's a pleasure.

Permanently injured would have been far worse. The injuries did look bad and Padme stopped herself from wincing when Rachel walked in and looked battered. Once the handshake was over she gestured to the chair so Rachel could take a seat, "You doing alright? I don't want to keep you too long if you're in pain. Want to tell me what exactly happened in the accident?"

"Oh, I'm not in pain. They've got me on some pretty serious painkillers," Rachel said it as if it was a joke, a light-hearted thing to say to her friend. The reality was that she was injured enough for opiates. Kinda scary.

As she sat down in the chair, she went on. "I was driving home from the Superbowl Party at my fiance's work. I was driving through an intersection, and this guy ran a red in the opposite direction, and slammed into me. I've got the police report, and I have witness statements."

"They tend to do that, which can be a godsend sometimes. It'll suck when it wears off, unfortunately. Do you have someone that can help take care of you when you rest up?" Padme was concerned for her safety and wanted to make sure that Rachel wasn't alone for this.

When Rachel described what happened she took notes and nodded her head, "Okay, perfect. He should definitely be the one at fault in this situation. Did you get his insurance information? Also, any potential for him being under any kind of influence?" She could definitely see Rachel winning any kind of case unless it was some kind of mechnical failure for the other driver, but that was rare.

Rarity nodded. "Oh, yes. I live with my boyfriend, and he'll be home after work. There's a car service outside, so I've got a ride home. I'll be fine." She was actually looking forward to going home and sleeping in her own bed!

"Yes, I have his insurance information, if it's all correct. And his driver's license number, and the car's license plate number." She said. "My car was totaled, so I'm gonna need some money to get a new one." Not that she was planning on driving anytime soon.

"Ugh, that is absolutely the worst. I'm so sorry that your car got totaled. Just sounds like a terrible time all around. If you want I can take all that information from you and do some calling to your insurance and get the ball rolling. I can also be your counsel if you need to take this man to court, but sometimes just having a lawyer calling on your behalf scares these people into not giving you the run around," Padme grabbed a pad of paper out of her desk and prepared herself to take down some information.

Rachel beamed brightly. Well, as brightly as she could with the pain medications making the whole world fuzzy. "That sounds wonderful." She turned and dug through her giant bag--one armed, as the other was in a sling--and pulled out some papers. The police report, the sheet of notepad paper with the other driver's information on it, then her own insurance information card and a photocopy of her driver's license they'd taken at the hospital. She passed all of the information over to Padme.

"...is this going to be enough to get started? I really... I think I should go home and lay down."

When Rachel grabbed the sheets she wrote down some of the information quickly and got up to go use the copier that was against the wall so she didn't have hold onto it for too long, "Yeah, it should be enough. I can start making calls in a little bit and if you don't mind I can leave you a voicemail if I need any more information. You don't have to return my call right away because I'd much rather have you resting up."

Once the copies were done she went back to her desk and handed over the original copies of everything to her, "I'm so very glad I'm able to help you out, Rachel."

"You're absolutely welcome to fill up my voice inbox." Rachel said, watching Padme make the copies. The meds were really making her a bit loopy. It was nice to just sit for a moment and not think.

Rachel accepted everything back and put it into a folder to stick in her bag. "Thank you, Padme. I really hope that the settlement that the insurance company gets for me will be enough to cover everything. But if it's not, I'm so glad that I've got you to help." She gave the other woman a smile. "And we should have coffee or something sometime. It'd be nice to keep in touch. You know, outside of work."

"I'll do my best to make sure you get the maximum amount to cover your expenses. You definitely deserve it especially since you had to pay a visit to the hospital for your trouble. And don't worry, I'm very happy to help you out," Padme flashed her a smile. It was nice to be able to help people and she liked helping out people who were on the network as well, "That would be great, actually. I'm totally addicted to coffee and I love excuses to take a break from work."
