Who: Faith Lehane and Rupert Giles
What: Getting drunk. Or trying to get drunk
When: Thursday night
Where: His place
Warnings: God knows

Faith had decided that what the both of them needed was to get drunk. Maybe that would help all the weirdness between them. She didn't want to be awkward with Giles. Not after everything that happened. So she grabbed a bottle of really nice bourbon, and went over to his place. She hadn't really told him he was coming, that way he couldn't say no. Faith knocked on the door and waited.

At the very least, they could be drunk and laugh about how awkward they were being, right? People laughed over being awkward, right? When he answered the door, she was there with the bottle in her hand. "I brought over a peace offering."

"Cheers," he agreed and clicked the glasses and drank.

"Oh, this is good." He wasn't quite able to keep the surprise out of his voice.

Faith looked proud of herself, that she had picked something good to drink. She took a long drink of hers and swallowed it all down. No need for sipping.

"Yeah? Five by five. Thought you might like it."

Giles did catch the way she looked after the small praise, and not for the first time wished he'd known her a little sooner. But maybe it was a good thing he hadn't. He took another drink, "It was a very good pick, Faith. Who taught you so much about bourbon."

All she wanted was for him to be proud of her. Okay, and a lot of other things, but she liked it when he looked at her like that. And it had nothing to do with the past. Everything to do with now. "That would be my alcoholic parents," she said with a wry grin.

She didn't mind talking about them. "They knew how to pick their booze."

Giles shifted just a bit. She might not mind talking about them, but it made him just a little uncomfortable. "One good thing, I suppose."

Okay next subject then. No need to talk about it. She didn't want to after all. "Yeah guess so. At least it's good shit."

She poured them both another drink. "Thanks for helping me get set up with the dog. Still don't know what to call it."

"Oh, it was no problem. I do actually have some experience with dogs. Probably one of the reasons I am a cat person," he grinned at her. "I'm sure you'll come up with a name. Sometimes it's hard until you've learned their personality."

"Really? You had some? And you hated them so you got a cat?" she asked, raising her eyebrows. Somehow she couldn't picture Giles with a cat at all. "Yeah guess so. At least it won't be some shitty name. Give it one that sounds menacing. Guard dog." Heh.

"My parents had a dog. I still have a scar to prove it. And I never had a cat, but I had a few friends who did." He supposed he never really liked the cat, either.

"So not Rover or Fluffy."

"Oh. You know dogs aren't usually vicious unless they're raised like that," she pointed out. "Definitely not Rover or Fluffy. Fuck no. Like.. Butch or something."

That would be hilarious. She poured another drink and took a sip.

"I realize that, but it seems easier to just avoid them all," he wasn't scared of dogs, he just didn't really like them. "Rebel. Or Rex maybe."

He put out his cup for a refill when she poured one for herself.

Faith shrugged a bit. "If you say so. They ain't so bad though." She rather liked the dog. "Rebel might be good. Or Spike. Now that would be hilarious." She gave a snort of amusement. Spike would be so pissed off if she named the dog after him.

"Do like Rebel though."

"Your dog doesn't seem so bad," he said, taking a long drink. "Rebel is good name. Though we should still tell them that you're naming him Spike. Just to see the reaction."

"Thanks. He seems to like you enough." As much as the dog could for knowing him a little while. "Oh fuck yes, that's going to be hilarious." Oh she was totally doing that. Down went another drink. "You gotta catch up. Drink."

Giles laughed, imagining how both Spike and Buffy would react. "You should say you named him after Spike, because they're so much alike." He finished his glass, "I am trying to keep up, but I'm not as young as I use to be."

Just picturing it was enough to make her laugh again. "Hell yeah. He's gonna be so pissed." And then she'd make fun of him. "Come on, Giles. You're plenty young. I know you can drink me under the table." She poured him another drink and pushed it in front of him.

"You just have to wait until he's licking himself. The dog, not Spike."

He took a long drink, not quite finishing the new glass, "If I didn't know better, Faith, I would think you're trying to get me drunk," he was grinning, obviously not meaning it seriously.

Faith wasn't sure if she should make a face or laugh, so she did both. "So not the picture I wanted in my head." Definitely not.

She gave him the most innocent look she could muster. "Uh well, you know that's the whole point in drinking." To get drunk. But she smirked since he was grinning and didn't actually think she was drying to get him drunk.

Giles grinned. He was already past tipsy, getting closer to drunk and the innocent look went past him. He finished his drink. He put his glass down and started to stand, "Would you like anything to eat?" He felt himself sway just a little as he stood.

Watching him was really kind of amusing. She hadn't really seen him drunk drunk before. They'd drank together plenty of times but this was a first. She tried not to laugh when he swayed. "Hell yeah, if you're cooking, I'm eating." She loved it when he cooked really.

Giles moved into the kitchen, having to hold a few things for balance as he walked. He was pretty good at cooking, even drunk. He got a few things out and started cooking. "I've cooked for you before?"

"Yep. You really hate having to eat fast food all the damn time. So you cook. When we got a place with a kitchen." She shrugged a bit, perching herself on the counter to just watch him do his thing. She didn't know what he was making, but it didn't matter, she'd eat it.

"American food," it was said as if he was talking about something very distasteful. He was putting together a few sandwiches, toasting some bread. Drunk cooking was better without a stove. "How long did we travel together?" he was actually curious about how things had been.

That time she actually did laugh. Yeah she'd seen that look before. "Uh.. about a year and a half? Something like that." It wasn't like she checked the calendar all that much. "More or less. And that was about a year after we blew up Sunnydale."

He looked as if he was trying to do math, but it didn't look like it was getting anywhere. Oh well. "As partners, not as Watcher and Slayer?" He had often felt a bit alone being the only adult in the group, even as Buffy and the others had entered college and were technically adults it always felt like there was a wall. They weren't friends, it was mentor and student.
