Who: Faith Lehane and Rupert Giles
What: Getting drunk. Or trying to get drunk
When: Thursday night
Where: His place
Warnings: God knows

Faith had decided that what the both of them needed was to get drunk. Maybe that would help all the weirdness between them. She didn't want to be awkward with Giles. Not after everything that happened. So she grabbed a bottle of really nice bourbon, and went over to his place. She hadn't really told him he was coming, that way he couldn't say no. Faith knocked on the door and waited.

At the very least, they could be drunk and laugh about how awkward they were being, right? People laughed over being awkward, right? When he answered the door, she was there with the bottle in her hand. "I brought over a peace offering."

"American food," it was said as if he was talking about something very distasteful. He was putting together a few sandwiches, toasting some bread. Drunk cooking was better without a stove. "How long did we travel together?" he was actually curious about how things had been.

That time she actually did laugh. Yeah she'd seen that look before. "Uh.. about a year and a half? Something like that." It wasn't like she checked the calendar all that much. "More or less. And that was about a year after we blew up Sunnydale."

He looked as if he was trying to do math, but it didn't look like it was getting anywhere. Oh well. "As partners, not as Watcher and Slayer?" He had often felt a bit alone being the only adult in the group, even as Buffy and the others had entered college and were technically adults it always felt like there was a wall. They weren't friends, it was mentor and student.

"Partners. Not Watcher and Slayer. You didn't teach me. I mean.. you teach me things, but we work together. As equals. Not teacher and student," she tried to explain. She could tell he was trying to figure it all out. "Hey, I just turned 31, don't forget. I mean since this is 2012." She knew that he must feel.. old.

"Oh god, that would make me 57. No. I refuse to believe that." Her claiming to be 31 did actually make him feel better. For whatever reason. "I like the idea of that. Partners, I mean. I was really starting to feel useless, you know. I was no longer a Watcher and it wasn't like Buffy needed me; she'd learned everything I could teach her." He set a sandwich in front of her and took his own.

Faith laughed again and shook her head. "Don't think of it like that. Just think of me being older and you being the same hot, stuffy British guy I know." She kind of wiggled her eyebrows at him a bit. "You're not useless. You and I made a difference. We did all the shit no one else could do. Refused to. You help me, I help you."

Giles was pretty sure he had blushed a little when she called him hot. Which was extremely embarrassing. "Well, I suppose I am doing pretty well for 57," seeing as he was 12 years younger than that really.

He looked proud of himself when she talked about him like that. Sure he had helped Buffy, in the 'pointy end of the stake goes towards that guy' sort of way, but to really make a difference was nice. "I'm sure it wasn't the easiest time for you, but it does actually sound...kind of nice."

Aw, Giles was blushing. Faith was trying really hard not to whistle at him. Like really whistle. She'd save that though. "Hell yeah you are," she said instead, giving a wicked kind of grin.

He should be proud, he had made a difference. "It was. Once we went to this village who sacrificed Slayers to this demon because they were all scared. We went in and kicked some demon ass. It was amazing. Then we helped the village fight against the vampires. All of them."

He couldn't help grinning back at her. She made comments like that to everyone, didn't she?

"That was very noble of us, helping them after all that." He decided he needed more to drink, but he had left his glass in the other room. So very far away.

Um, maybe she made those comments a lot yeah but she meant it with him. Even if she was a giant flirt.

"Yeah. Never thought you'd use the words noble and then faith in the same sentence, didja?" She went to grab the drinks off the table and brought them back. "I mean you know that's not in a church kind of way."

He accepted his glass and took a long drink from it. "It doesn't surprise me that much." And actually it didn't. If someone had said that before the vortex he might agree, but now, after getting to know Faith here, it wasn't that crazy.

Faith quickly poured herself a drink and took a small sip this time. "Yeah? Thanks." She was actually really glad when he said things like that. Despite being partners, she really just wanted him to trust her. She grabbed her sandwich and took a big bite.

Giles took a bite of his own sandwich. It didn't really go with the bourbon, but that didn't really matter. "Is it good?"

She gave a mumbled noise of affirmation, since she didn't want to talk with her mouth full. No it didn't go together, but it was still good. And she was always hungry. "Thanks," she mumbled in between bites.

He couldn't help but grin at her mumbled noise, glad that she liked it. "You're welcome. Thank you for the bourbon." He tipped his glass in a toast before he drank.

"You're very welcome," she agreed once she had swallowed what was left of her sandwich and then took another sip. She might have been slowly edging closer to him, but it was hard to say.

He realized he wasn't nearly as hungry as he thought he was and put the rest of his own sandwich down. He brought his glass up to take a sip only to find the glass empty. How much had he drank?

Quite a bit. Both of them had. She was feeling really good. Then she was right near him though, and put her own sandwich down to look up at him. "Do you want another?" she asked quietly.

Faith was very close and warm and he was not really thinking clearly. He looked at his glass, barley registering that she was referring to the bourbon. He put the glass down, having to reach around her to do so, and shook his head no. "I think I've had enough." The fact that his brain wasn't telling him to back up was evidence that he'd had more than enough.

She liked being this close to him. If only he really got how she felt. It was even hard for her to figure out what he meant to her. She leaned in just so. "Yeah? Guess me too." She was a bit wobbly on her feet as well, but she was very nearly right up against him. "Giles."

He put a hand on her arm to stabilize her as she wobbled. Really just to stabilize her "Hm?"

That was all she really needed. "I.." and for once, she didn't know what to say. Usually she was really good at this. Really really good. And now she was a bit nervous. Still though she leaned up and brushed her lips against his.

The hand on her arm griped it lightly and the other went to the back of her head, pulling her just that much closer as he kissed her back. He really shouldn't be doing this, but that wasn't stopping him.

She'd thought quite a number of times about kissing him. Faith hadn't thought he might kiss her back. She let out a noise in the back of her throat and kissed him harder, pressing right up against him.

Giles finally had to pull back for air. "I. This." He took a deep breath. "Faith, we are both very drunk." He wasn't loosening his grip or moving away from her.
