Melora Hawke is plotting something ([info]smallbutdeadly) wrote in [info]utr_logs,

Who: Melora Hawke and Aedan Surana
What: So much talking to do
When: Right around the New Year
Warnings: Super awkward, discussion of 'adult topics'

Melora would probably always be cautious when it came to visiting Aedan's home. His father seemed to have given her his blessing, and Morrigan wasn't actively trying to push her away, but Melora figured it was best not to tempt fate.

She was up in a tree, close enough that she could see his cabin, when she sent him a text, letting him know she'd arrived. They had a lot to talk about. Melora had come back from a trip to another planet, and that was discussion enough without having... Things to talk about. One of them would probably panic and run away again, and Melora was half-convinced it would be her. As much as she teased her friends about them all being younger, she really wasn't very mature at all.

When she saw Aedan leaving the house, she jumped down from the tree to meet him.

Melora smiled a bit at that. She wanted to reassure him that she didn't think Morrigan would attack them.. She'd let Melora stay with him during the Blight, afterall, even if the moments that followed were some of the most awkward in her life... She just didn't think there would be a big explosion now. But better safe than sorry, and all.

Melora grinned. "Thomas dragged us all off in this spaceship with his girlfriend," she said in a teasing tone. It was completely obvious Thomas was smitten with the girl, even if she was completely oblivious. "And we went to this planet that was full of dragons." Melora's eyes were bright as she looked up at Aedan, eager to see his reaction.

Oh, wow. Whilst Aedan had always known Melora's flights of fancy were astounding, none of them yet could compare with that. Especially since there were dragons.

"Thomas has a girlfriend, and there are dragons out there... isn't that two almost impossible things in one?" What next, his parents actually admitting they liked each other?

"Well, she's a girlfriend in the sense that Thomas has girlfriends. A bit less imaginary, maybe, we'll see." Melora grinned and shrugged. "They'll be cute, if he can manage to talk to her without fainting." Thomas really shouldn't have this hard of a time talking to girls. He was a prince, for goodness sake. But he tended to worry that anyone who knew about that wanted him for his crown, and blahblah. Melora hoped he'd manage to figure things out soon.

"But yes! Dragons! That princess girl you were talking to was apparently very determined. She actually brought one back." Melora bounced on her toes excitedly. "She's about your size, I think, maybe smaller. I think she's like a teenager." Whatever that meant in dragon-terms. "She's okay. She and the princess went to those mountains in Africa or wherever."

"He'll manage things. Someone might have to prop him up, though." There was probably some sort of rule about princes fainting when the concept of dating came up. Aedan's father had certainly implied that it'd been the case with Alistair, even if he wasn't exactly a prince.

That was a weird thought - another dragon. He'd never actually met another. "I'm not sure age is exactly the same for dragons as it is for us. It'd be interesting to meet her - the dragon, I mean." Although, considering he wasn't strictly a dragon, that might not end well.

Melora nodded. "I don't know how old she is, but she seemed younger than the other dragons we met. Seemed like she was just getting out in the world, and all."

"I'm sure you could meet her. She seemed nice enough." Melora ran a hand through her hair, a little nervously. She knew it was unlikely that he would get a crush on a dragon, but it was still a little awkward to think about. "She might know what you are. They could tell I'd been around a dragon."

There was honestly nothing to worry about there. Aedan was human a good ninety percent of the time now, so the idea of finding dragons impressive in that sort of way was right out.

"Not that I'm exactly a normal dragon," it was strange to think that there might be dragons out there who were bigger than an Old God. True, he was still developing in that form, but... it seemed against all forms of logic. "Nobody else asked about it, did they?"

Melora shrugged. "Well, she'll probably be able to tell something. I bet you'll confuse her a lot, actually. I don't think she knows any dragons that are sometimes human." She'd slowed to a stop, even though they weren't at the lake yet.

She shook her head. "I think it's okay. Said one of Gaius' spells made me smell like a dragon. He covered for me. Nobody really asked." His secret was safe with her.

Were there even any other dragons that turned human out there? Aedan was probably the only Old God in the universe, after all, and he was fairly sure they were the only ones to manage shifting like that.

"That's good... last thing I need is that princess invading the woods," true, he'd liked his conversation with her, and it'd been interesting, but he knew that newcomers to the woods rarely fared well. "Just having a spell that makes you fireproof doesn't tend to be enough to put off mother."

"I don't think her spell protects against lightning. And ice. And claws." Melora looked amused, in spite of the seriousness of the topic. Morrigan had only attacked Melora once; Melora wasn't really too concerned about it, though. Still, she liked being the brave one. She didn't want any other girls poking around the woods.

"We could go visit the mountains and see the new dragon, if you want."

If one thing didn't work, try again with even more violence. That was really Morrigan's way, wasn't it? Even though he'd been raised with it, Aedan still found it almost ridiculously over-the-top sometimes. "Is it any wonder you're the only person brave enough to come here?"

Aside from Dar's occasional visit, but she definitely knew well enough to stay far away from the cottage. Although maybe that was jut because he'd told her the usual Witch of the Wilds horror stories... "Could be interesting. If only to see just how actual dragons react to an Old God."

Melora smiled some. They could just talk about dragons all day, right? No need for other subjects. She ran a hand through her hair, sighing. Agh, so awkward! "Aedan?" Not running away. She was not going to run away.

Oh god, why was she even trying to talk about this? They could just keep doing what they were doing and not-doing what they weren't-doing. It wasn't like Melora was super-horny and trying to get in Aedan's pants all the time. The closest they'd ever gotten was during the Blight, and that was in a large part because Melora wanted to keep Aedan distracted. Maybe she really wasn't ready. Was she pushing herself too much?

But she was determined to at least try discussing it. "Can we talk about stuff?"

Well, that wasn't ominous in the slightest. Talking about dragons was easy, it was something he knew, and it didn't involve complex issues of... stuff. Aedan rubbed at the back of his neck, hoping it wasn't anything too awkward.

"We can talk about anything you want to," although with them, 'stuff' usually meant the sort of stuff that made one of them panic and run away.

"Um. So. I like you a lot." He already knew that. "I, um. Well, you know how we. Argh." She was already blowing it. Awesome. "Aedan, I don't want to make this sound like it's less major than it is. I love you."

She'd meant to keep going, but they hadn't told each other that before. She should probably pause for a minute and let him digest that before she threw more at him.

"I.. I do. I love you."

The main reason love had never even come up in Aedan's mind was because he'd never had much of a rolemodel when it came to things like that. True, his parents could be close, but the next day they'd be right back to almost killing each other by 'accident'.

"Dangerous dragon moments and all?" True, they'd become far less common since Melora had turned up, but they were still a big thing... a big enough thing to make him incredibly nervous. "I mean, I... I don't exactly have the right sort of people to learn that sort of stuff off, but... I think I might feel the same way..."

He was allowed to find emotions like this more than a little confusing, wasn't he?

Melora smiled. She was trying to be understanding of Aedan's hesitancy, but it was hard not to think he was silly to be surprised at all. "Of course. Those are fun, too." Okay, maybe he didn't think surprise dragon moments were quite as fun as she did, but they managed all right, didn't they?

She reached out and intertwined her fingers with his, leaning against him and looking up to catch his gaze with hers. "It's okay." He didn't have to say it back. "I can't see myself being with anyone else, really."

Aedan no doubt would say it in time, once the initial weirdness wore off. He could certainly admit to himself that he loved her, but saying it out loud was another matter altogether. "Guess they're not too bad..."

The closeness was nice, maybe even a little relaxing, even if the idea that she could ask more was still ominously lurking at the back of his mind. "What more could I ask for than someone like you? I mean, you are pretty amazing..."

Melora smiled warmly, squeezing his hand. Had he really gotten that comfortable with his dragon side now that he could describe them as 'not too bad'? She was really pleased, and was taking credit for a good chunk of that. It made her brighten considerably.

She shrugged at the compliment, grinning. "Yeah, well, you know. I try." That was close. Sounded a little like the classic 'I don't really want to make a commitment so I'll just talk about how awesome you are,' Guy-Line, but she knew Aedan had way different circumstances than most. Not like he'd seen a normal, healthy relationship before.

"Maybe that's enough for right now." It didn't really seem like the time to tackle anything else, and Melora was starting to feel that awkward buildup again.

The awkward build-up was almost inevitable with them ever since what'd happened during the Blight. Not that he regretted anything that'd happened, aside from the interruption.

"We.... should probably keep from avoiding things," Aedan knew that this probably wasn't going to end well, but sometimes, you just had to take that sort of risk. "I mean, considering how it kinda makes it awkward and weird to be around each other sometimes..."

He'd honestly lost track of the number of times things'd gotten close and then one of them had panicked and made up an excuse to get away.

Melora frowned. He was right. And she didn't want things to be awkward and weird between them. She didn't want anything to discourage them from being around each other. She pushed back the nagging feeling that she'd left the stove on, or she had an appointment or any other number of reasons to run.

"Okay. Well, I've never been with anybody else." And Aedan hadn't either, she was certain. "And I don't want to be with anybody but you, ever. And I thought.. Well I don't know if you want to, but we could talk about.. Um." Crap. She was totally at a loss of how to say it. "Doing more than kissing."

She felt like a thirteen year old. Aedan was going to think he was dating a thirteen year old.

On the contrary. Aedan probably wouldn't have come up with anything more coherent than that. He knew what she meant, and he hadn't had to be the one to awkwardly articulate it, and that was probably what mattered.

"We... probably should talk about it," not that he had much of a clue what it entailed. Morrigan was hardly a good teacher when it came to such things, and had simply made up a very basic explanation when he was much younger. The most he could remember of it was that it just wasn't very good. "I think we were running out of excuses anyway."

His had probably been the worst excuses in the history of the universe. The number of times he'd had to catch himself from saying entirely the wrong word...

Neither of them had run away yet, which was good. He'd even agreed with her about talking. "Okay, so... I don't know when... I mean. What do you think about it? We kind of... I mean, we've been dating a while." It took a lot to make Melora this babble-y. She was blushing, too, which was an entirely strange look on the girl who had nearly skinny dipped with him on their second date.

"I don't know!" She exclaimed, throwing up her arms. "Can you talk now?"

It was more than a little hard to believe that this was the same girl who'd all but flashed him back then. Aedan rubbed at the back of his neck, willing the awkwardness to go away. It might not work, but hey, anything was worth a shot here.

Right. Talking. He'd almost forgotten about that. "It's not like it'd hurt anything to try, right? Providing we actually remember privacy wards, or to keep away from places where we could be interrupted..."

Melora blinked at his words. It wouldn't hurt to try? She had to remind herself that not only was he a boy, he was a boy that was raised by Morrigan. He was usually different enough from his parents that it was easy to forget that, but that.. That was completely different than Melora's ideas about the whole thing.

"Um." She pressed her lips together, running her hands through her hair. "It's.. kind of a bigger deal than that for me, Aedan." She felt really vulnerable. Just throwing it all out there like that, and then him being on a completely different wavelength. She knew it wasn't his fault, but still. "I want it to be all romantic and like a fairytale and stuff.. Not like taking a car for a test drive."

If there was ever proof that Aedan needed to think before he said things, this was it. He hadn't meant it to come out like that... maybe he could just blame it on the awkwardness he had to put up with from his parents. That tended to work.

"I know, I know... princess taming her dragon and all that, right?" They'd been doing fairly well on that sort of thing, or so it seemed. "I didn't mean do it right now, I meant more... when the time seems right, we should at least try to... well, not run away from each other."

This certainly wasn't getting more and more awkward by the second, was it?

Melora gave him a small smile. That seemed to have calmed her down a bit. It sounded better, anyway. "Something like that," she said with a little nod.

Melora glanced down at the grass, searching for words. "I just want it to be perfect.. Even if it probably won't. Even if it'll be awkward, or messy, or I accidentally elbow you, or you accidentally pull my hair, or I have onion breath or.. whatever. It'll be okay, because I'll be with you." She looked back up at him, her vulnerability written across her face. She was basically baring her soul to him, trusting he could handle it.

Whilst he was certainly no master of emotions, Aedan could more than handle this. Something about Melora seemed to always bring out the better side of him, even when the Blight had been threatening to corrupt him back into an Archdemon. "I think it'll be perfect just because it's with you. Even if things get a little awkward, it's... you know, something we can cope with, because we're with each other."

From what he knew, it'd probably be inevitable that things would get at least a little awkward, but surely it'd all be worth it in the end. He loved her, after all, even if he was still failing horribly at admitting it.

Melora nodded, smiling up at him. "So let's just.. wait for now, okay? Until we're more ready." She didn't know if they would ever not panic when the idea of their First Time came up, but she kind of wanted to know he loved her first. And if she was honest with herself, she still felt way too young.

That was enough serious stuff. Melora reached out to take his hand, swinging it back and forth in a playful, casual sort of way. "Want to go flying?" she asked, hoping it would take their minds off things and let them relax and enjoy themselves.

Oh, finally. Something that wasn't awkward. "Thought you'd never ask." It'd actually been a while since they'd last done this, if he thought about it. Maybe now they'd confronted the awkwardness things would get back to normal.

Well, as normal as things got with them.
