Who: Corinth and Anders
What: Near heart attack for Anders
Where: Corinth's place.

Anders was still pretty concerned about Corinth. He was feeling better after talking to Micheal, even a little bit. He headed over to Corinth's apartment to talk to her about it all. Corinth had been so close to completely burned out, and Anders hoped to find her at home.

He knocked on the apartment door and didn't get an answer. Corinth was due home half an hour ago, so she should be there. He turned the doorknob and found the door unlocked. He pushed it open, looking in the door, "Corinth? Are you home?" He walked in and saw her lying on the couch. "Oh, sorry, I th..."

Anders stopped. She wasn't moving. Her eyes were open and she was just staring into space. He felt his mouth go dry as he ran over to her. His training took over and he automatically checked for pulse and breath. He found neither and she was cold. He looked her over. He couldn't see any obvious wounds and while people tended to think poison was clean, it generally wasn't. Though she had access to a hospital. She could have found something.

His next instinct was to send a shock to her heart. He put his hand over her breast as he summoned the magic.

Anders looked up. "Corinth." He looked down at the girl in his arms and he started to understand. Anders stood up and ran over, hugging Corinth. "You're alive. Thank the Maker." He felt like a complete idiot, but he was so relieved.

Corinth blinked, hugging Anders back. Corinth's other vessel would have looked pretty much dead. No breathing, no pulse. "Oh, you thought.." And then he realized why it looked extra suspicious. "Oh." Corinth shook his head. "Not that easy for an angel to off ourselves." If it were, Corinth might have done it already. "These are just vessels. Dying isn't fun, but it's not as 'final' as it is for humans." Oh, the body would be gone. He would have to petition to an archangel for a new body, and that would be a pretty hard sell if he'd killed the last one on purpose.

Anders held him a few seconds longer than was probably necessary. He didn't generally feel quite as comfortable with boy Corinth as girl Corinth because he had met her as a girl first. He pulled away from the hug and looked at Corinth as he talked. He sounded so sad that he couldn't just 'off' himself. "Corinth. I'm sorry. I would always ask to hang out to talk about my problems and we never talked about yours."

He sighed, forcing a small smile. "It's all right," he said, sadness in his voice. "There's not really anything that can be done." He wanted to say something to make Anders feel better. Maybe that some days were worse than others, but he couldn't really sound like he believed that. He didn't think it would ever get better. He was stuck doing something that didn't fit with who he was, and he would be stuck there forever. He shook his head.

Anders turned away for a moment. He didn't want to tell him and get his hopes up if nothing could be done, but he hated to see him like this. "I talked to the archangels. Micheal specifically. I knew you wouldn't be happy so I didn't tell you before hand. I just couldn't stand by with you so miserable. I don't know what will happen, but Micheal said he's working on something."

Anders looked back at the girl on couch. Even with Corinth standing in front of him it really scared him to see her like that. "You're amazing, Corinth. Being around death so much is something I choose and it's still hard. I can't imagine how difficult it would be if I hadn't had a choice."

"You.. what?" Corinth actually looked a little frightened. "But Azrael.. I can't just put in a transfer request.." He ran a hand through his hair. Michael was working on something? Corinth really wasn't sure what that would entail. Would Michael tell Azrael that Corinth couldn't handle it? What would Azrael think? What a mess.

Corinth shook his head. "You save people, though." Corinth didn't do that at all. He didn't heal people. "I know that some of them are going to Heaven, so that's a comfort for them, but.." Corinth hadn't actually been to Heaven yet. Maybe this would be different if he had.

He saw Anders look at his other vessel. "Here.. Let me just get changed.." Corinth sat down and took his celestial form, then moved into his female body. She sat up. This form was stronger, so carrying his male vessel was considerably easier. "I'll be right back," she said before picking her male vessel up and taking it into the bedroom.

"I had to say something. I know you wouldn't."

"I haven't saved them all. Sometimes all I can do is make them comfortable. The practice is frowned on here, but back home there has been more than one person I have helped to the other side to find comfort."

Anders waited for her to change and put away the other vessel. It was bizarre to watch.

She came back from the bedroom, having changed into a clean set of scrubs. "I... I don't know about this, Anders." This couldn't go well.

"You save some of them, though. Most of them." She shook her head. It was hard for her to never see that life. "I know that what I do is necessary and.. even.. good." She didn't sound like she really believed that. She shook her head. "I should be able to do this. That I can't.. It's my problem, not Michael's. I should be better."

But she wasn't going to get better. She was pretty sure about that. She sank down onto the couch.

"You weren't meant to do this. I'm not an angel or some higher being, but I can see that. Some people are made to deal with death and some people aren't. It's not a problem with you. I think Micheal sees that." He sat next to her on the couch.

She ran a hand through her hair, sighing. She couldn't really argue with him. It wasn't in her nature to do this. Even as a demon, she was more life-affirming than this.

"We all have roles to follow. There's an order to everything," her tone sounded a bit hollow. She sighed, leaning her head against Anders' shoulder.

He put an arm around her. "Disorder is my middle name, or it would be if I had a middle name. I don't tend to listen well to rules."

"That's a luxury you humans have. Angels don't really have free will. Our options are very limited. Even moreso here, apparently." She wished Eli were here. He was the one that initially made her an angel, if an imperfect one. But since Eli wasn't exactly the most reliable archangel, even if he were here she probably wouldn't be working directly under him. Eli typically loaned out his servitors, and she may have ended up in the same position.

"I don't know what I'm doing."

"Which is why I asked Micheal for help, not you." He knew it wasn't the best answer. It was weird to him. She seemed like she had free will, but it was hard to say, he hadn't really thought about it.

"Who does? I never know what I'm doing, I'm just good at pretending. I don't know a lot about angels and what they can and can't do, but you're amazing. And you deserve something better than this."

Corinth smiled a bit when Anders admitted he was just good at pretending. "Thank you," she said softly. She still wasn't sure how much good it would do, but it was something. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. "I've only got a little while before my next shift."

"You should take a break. I'm pretty sure even angels aren't meant to work this hard." She looked so tired and she had just gotten back from a shift. He knew it was a 'bad' thing, but he let a little bit of magic out through the hand around her, just making her a little drowsy. It should be subtle enough that she didn't notice.

Angels didn't need to sleep.. But they also didn't need coffee, and Corey's stance on that was pretty obvious. She yawned, nestling against his side. Sleep was good. "You're probably right.." she said, eyes still closed. She should call in... But her phone was way over on the table.

Anders smiled down at her. He hadn't meant for her to pass out immediately, but whatever was best for her. He reached forward, doing his best to not move her and grabbed her phone. "You want to call, or should I?" She might already be asleep, and if that was the case he'd just call in for her.

Corinth murmured something into his chest, but it was completely unintelligible. The chances that she could actually explain the situation on the phone looked incredibly slim. She managed to unhook the namebadge from her shirt and hand it to him, so he would know who to mention. 'Corinth' would probably confuse them, since John Corinth had just gotten off his shift. Her name badge read 'Corey Barnes'.

Anders took the badge and found the number in her contacts, calling in for her. After he hung up he moved around a bit to get more comfortable. He wasn't exactly tired, but he didn't really want to wake her up either. He got his own phone out to text home that he would be late. They wouldn't mind.
