She'd flown over to the restaurant he'd indicated. Being a fairy was sort of like having an internal, mental GPS. She loved being able to find everything, and she fluttered down to the ground just outside of the eatery. Dusting glitter off of her dress, she walked out to the sidewalk, looking around for her friend.

Bones actually paused, trying to give the question a non-flippant answer. For once.

"Back home, I was always the one who fixed things. Whatever shit Jim or the rest would get into, I'd fix them up, then yell at them. Even before Starfleet, I'd fix everyone else's problems. Used to make me pretty angry, watching everyone make the same mistakes every time, and expect me to bail them out or patch them up."

At that, Bones has to laugh. That's it, when Jim showed up, he had to remember to tell him that one.

But then she touched his hand.

He was a doctor. It's not that he didn't touch people, and often, during the day. But this was the first friendly contact he'd had in a dog's age. He looked up at her, eyes clear with honest thanks. "Miss 'em and want to kill 'em. If you knew Jim, you'd feel the same way. And Spock, and the rest. Doubt they'd like the idea of me as their mom though."

"Yeah, it does." She shrugged and smiled. "It happened to my first fiance too." Oh, he changed the subject. What a sweet man, even sweeter than he seemed.

"Hyrule? Oh, you'd like it! There's trees everywhere, and castles, and all sorts of life. Not just fairies, there's the Hylians and the Zora and the Gorons." It was obvious that she loved and missed her home; her motions grew more animated.

On one hand, he really wanted to see her all happy and animated like that. It was practically a drug.

A particular drug, that he'd never tried before, but was very popular with the party set at the Academy when they went to the laser shows. Was it hot in here?

But on the other hand, he had no idea what any of those words meant. Tribes? Races? "And what, you were a dragon fighting faerie hero?" He managed to say it in a way that wasn't quite insulting, just teasing. That had taken work.

His attempt at kindness wasn't lost on her. She was aware of how hard it had been for him to not tease her. "Oh, no, I'm not the Hero, that was my boy, Link. I just helped him. I taught him how to use weapons, and strategy, and I pointed out where where we should go next and how to finish our Quest." Her cheeks had gone a bit pink, and she laughed nervously. "I. Um. It sounds silly when I tell it to you and um."
