Entry tags:gaius du lac, melora hawke, merlin, nimue

Who: Merlin, Nimue, Gaius and Melora
What: Hey, you have a kid!
When: Shortly after Gaius arrived
Warnings: Only people freaking out

Merlin was studying at Nimue's apartment. Nimue was reading in a chair across the room. It was one of those nice quiet times. Mordred was still at school in an advanced class with Headmaster Dumbledore. He was just finishing up his last bit of work when there was a knock on the door.

Merlin looked up at the door and then over at Nimue, as if asking if she was expecting anyone. When she looked as confused as he did he got up to answer the door.

Gaius was actually not too horribly nervous, surprisingly. He thought he would be freaking out, but it really was just his mum and dad, just younger, nothing to be scared of. He knocked on the door, fidgeting a little. He was glad Melora was there. As much as she was adapt at saying the wrong thing at the right time, it was nice to have his best friend backing him up.

His dad opened the door and he was so young. He might be younger than Gaius was. Crap, okay, that was weird. "Uh, hi, er, Merlin," it was so weird to not call him Dad, "Is M-Nimue here, too?" Oh, maybe this was not so good an idea. Maybe he could just pretend he was a door to door salesman and run off and do this some other time... like when he wasn't OLDER THAN HIS DAD.

"We're going to need to find a bigger home," Nimue told Merlin, stroking the girl's hair. Amy was too young to live across the hall, and Nimue didn't feel quite right about Amy and Mordred sharing a room.

Melora smiled to Gaius. It probably wasn't what he was expecting when he asked about Amy being here, but it was still good to see her friend's little sister. And it seemed to deflect some of the attention away from Gaius. "Want some tea?"

Amy looked at Merlin and giggled. "You look funny, Daddy!"

Merlin nodded at Nimue, bigger house, yes. "We'll find a place, I mean, if Arthur lets me leave the palace and doesn't insist that we all move there." Merlin beamed when she called him Daddy. It felt right. "I know, I need a beard," he said, looking over at Melora, smiling and taking the tea.

Gaius smiled at Melora and took some tea before turning to look into the room his sister had just left. It was a kids room, but it wasn't Amy's. It wasn't a little girls room. "Who's room is this?" Gaius asked, looking back at his parents. He didn't remember them saying anything about having a kid around before him.

Melora grinned at Merlin. "I tried to warn you," she said as she handed him a cup of tea. "Not my fault you can't grow a beard in twelve hours," she teased. He looked so happy with the kids.

Nimue shook her head at the offer of tea; her hands were full. She started to move to the couch before Gaius' question. "Hmm? It's Mordred's." Surely they knew Mordred, at least a little. He wouldn't be old enough to move out until Gaius was Amy's age, if Nimue had her timeline straight.. Though it was entirely possible she didn't.

Nimue carried Amy over to the couch and sat down. Melora gave Gaius a confused look. Mordred?

Gauis looked over at Melora, as if seeing if she know what Nimue was talking about. "Mordred? Who's Mordred?"

Merlin looked back at Nimue and then Gaius, "You know don't know Mordred?"

Nimue frowned, glancing at Merlin. That was troublesome. Even if Mordred had moved out, they should at least know who he was. "Mordred is a boy from Camelot that Merlin knew. He's a druid, I've been looking after him." She couldn't quite understand why they wouldn't know him. Maybe something had happened to Mordred.

Melora was just as confused as everyone else. Being not technically in the family, though, it was a little awkward. She poured a cup of tea for Gaius, putting the sugar and milk in the way she knew he liked it.

Gaius looked pretty confused. "Huh. That's weird." He took the tea from Melora, sipping it and smiling at her.

"Anyway, I'm sure Uncle Arthur would be happy to have us."

As soon as Gaius mentioned 'Uncle Arthur', Nimue didn't drop a beat before grabbing the tea towel and handing it to Merlin so he didn't spray tea all over the place. She was smirking, picturing Arthur's reaction. "Darling, your Uncle Arthur hasn't even the nerve to invite his own ladylove to stay with him. I'm not sure he's ready to invite Merlin's. He may need some time to adjust."

"If you need help moving, me and Stefan'll be happy to help," Melora said, volunteering her brother without a second thought. She could probably talk her parents into it, too.

Nimue's timing and instincts were good. Merlin took the towel and he burst out laughing. He got most of the tea with the towel. He coughed for a second and couldn't quite respond.

Gaius looked a little amused, "Gwen hasn't moved in yet? Yeah, we could get a place until things sink in a bit." He would have been fine staying at the school or across the hall, but Amy needed a place to stay.

"Daddy, you okay?" Amy asked, helping Merlin pat his face with the wet towel while he coughed. "Don't drink so fast," she told him sternly, clearly repeating something she had been told.

Nimue was entirely too amused. She stroked Amy's hair while the girl fussed over Merlin. "It shouldn't be hard. There isn't too much to move, but help is always appreciated," she told Melora. Nimue had been used to travel, so she didn't have too many things. Merlin didn't even live here, so his possessions were limited, too. Mordred's belongings probably accounted for most of their stuff, just because Nimue doted on the boy and tended to buy him nice things. "I imagine I'll need more help shopping for these two than we will moving."

Merlin smiled when he put the towel down. "I'm fine. I'll be careful." It was adorable.

Gaius smiled, "We never had too much stuff. And you don't need to shop for me, I mean, I'm pretty sure I have money, unless I replaced someone who has no money, then I'll take you up on that offer." It was weird, as much as he still lived at the palace, where his parents lived, he was so use to living on his own and buying his own things.

Nimue shook her head to Gaius. "Money isn't an issue, but it is hard to rebuild from scratch. I'm at least going to help." She would have to shop for Amy, anyway. She smiled at the girl, tickling her side lightly. "Should we take Gaius when we go shopping?" she asked Amy.

"Ummm," Amy wrinkled up her face, thinking. "He's a boy."

"Some boys like shopping," Melora pointed out.

"Or we could just pick out things for him," Nimue suggested. "You wanna pick out some fuzzy slippers for him?" she asked Amy, which was met with giggles.
