Who: Emily Lightman, Cal Lightman, Remus Lupin (Younger).
What: Emily and Remus' first date.
When: Saturday evening.
Where: Emily and Cal's.
Warnings: Cal might swear?

Emily had finished primping upstairs, and trotted down to the living room. She hadn't dressed up too much, but she had put on a bit of makeup. She thought she looked cute, but she knew her father would still freak out. She'd known all day he'd freak out even if she said that she and Remus were going to go to a bookstore staffed with only Amish people. "Hey, Dad? Are you ready to come freak out?"

He was satisfied with the boy's reaction. "Yeah, well I want to make sure he isn't an idiot, either." He waved his hand at Remus. He didn't like seeing him relax when he looked at Emily, even if it was only a fraction. Teenagers. Thought herd immunity applied to social situations, too.

"Emily, sweetheart, I think I saw your purse in the kitchen. Go on, I won't bite him." He gave her a grin. "Don't forget your phone!"

"Dividing and conquering, huh? Fine. Remus, don't let him rattle you too much. And you know how else you could keep tabs on us, Dad? Get me a car." She stuck her tongue out at him as she walked to the kitchen, facepalming as she moved.

Oh, this was not good. Not good at all. As uncomfortable as Emily made him, as all humans made him, she was at least somewhat familiar. And much less scary. He tried to smile at Dr. Lightman and only ended up looking ill.

Why did people put themselves through this kind of thing. He couldn't understand it. At all.

"Yeah, yeah, I'll get right on that," he told Emily, having heard her line about wanting a car before. He waved her off.

Watching Remus shrink, he poked his tongue in his cheek. It was hard not to show his amusement. He took a step forward, intruding on the boy's personal space. "You seem like," a good kid? "a forty-year old librarian, actually." It was a bit odd. He shrugged, seeming a bit casual. As he progressed, though, his tone became more serious, and his eyecontact was intense. "Much as I might prefer tweed to some rockstar wannabe's leather jacket, it doesn't really matter if I like you, see? I'm Emily's dad, and it's my job to make sure you think I am the scariest motherfucker on the planet. Now, I can see you're scared. That's good. You remember that fear, and everything'll be just dandy."

Emily was in the kitchen, ear pressed to the wall. She could hear her father, and she felt her jaw drop a little. He was her dad, and she knew him, so she expected this. But she couldn't help but wonder why he was so damn protective of her sometimes.

Remus was sure that Emily's father wasn't the scariest...person he'd ever met, but at the moment he couldn't think of anyone.

He shrunk back further when Dr. Lightman got into his space, eyes wide. He nodded, "Don't worry, Dr. Lightman, I have a very good memory." His voice my have cracked just a little.

Cal grinned brightly, giving Remus a hearty pat on the back. "Good man!" he said.

He glanced back over his shoulder at the kitchen where Emily was. "Ready yet, Em?" He looked back at Remus. "Girls, eh?" he said with a shrug.

"Only if you're done terrifying him." Her arms were folded as she re-emerged, and she glared at her father for a moment before hugging him. "Love you, you nutter." Turning to Remus, she laughed. "He does this to every guy who talks to me. I think the UPS guy just throws our pacakages up here now."

Remus doesn't look too reassured, but smiles at her all the same. "So, um, pizza?" He's not sure if he should be doing more, staying longer, this was completely foreign to him, but Emily had her purse and was all ready to go.

Emily squeezed his hand and nodded. "Pizza sounds awesome." She waved to her dad, laughing. "No stalking us, Dad, I'll be home soon."

Cal hugged his daughter back when she hugged him, kissing her forehead. "Love you, too. Go. Enjoy your pizza. No stalking."

"Oi, and that UPS guy was squirrelly," he added, conviction in his tone.
