WHO: Catherine and Calliope
WHAT: God only knows. Just talking to start.
WHERE: Catherine's office in Cowley Road, Lambeth, London.
WARNINGS: Doubtful. Discussion of torture, maybe?

Catherine sat in her chair, feeling both unsettled and comfortable. She'd finally consolidated her hold over her own bloody company, and her place was secure. No one would think of mounting a coup against her the way she'd neatly removed the previous occupant of the president's office.

However. She'd managed to locate a criminal sort, a human not without know-how. He wasn't a fool, but he was exactly the sort to have gotten the drop on Calliope if he'd had the luck. Which any human might have, once in a blue moon.

She hated lying to Calliope, but the alternative was untenable. Pressing the button on her intercom, she got her secretary. "Maredydd, please have Miss Sedant come in here?"

Calliope was reading in the waiting area, her hair up in an elaborate bun with two silver combs. Her legs were crossed formally, and she smiled a bit at the secretary as she walked into Catherine's office.

She'd been feeling better since she'd tortured the boy, who was still strapped to the table, no doubt terrified of her return. "Hello, Mistress." She stood in front of her desk, hands behind her back.

"Hello, Calliope. Please, sit, if you like." Catherine knew she would look strained to the eyes of her second; Calliope knew her too well. Hopefully she would write it off as working too hard; she had been here til all hours the last few days.

She got to the point abruptly. "There's someone in the basement that I think you might like to meet. If you're in the mood for it." She'd seen Calliope lately looking ... quiet, somehow. It didn't sit well.

"You need to eat, Mistress." Calliope smiled, taking her seat and whipping out a legal pad from her case. She held a pen aloft over the paper, waiting for instruction. "Really. What did they do?"

"You tell me." Catherine did smile. This man was scum, of course; Calliope would make good work of him, and he deserved it for one thing if not another.

"I don't know," Calliope smiled back. "This is a surprise." She didn't know if she liked surprises.

"Well. I meant that you yourself know the extent of your own injuries." Catherine managed a laugh. "One of our men went undercover and hired him to perform a fictional hit, saying they appreciated the work done with 'the redhead.'" It was all true, except for the redhead bit. The man had agreed to perform a hit, but they'd referenced another, older job. He'd swallowed it hook, line and sinker.

She set the pen down. "Really." Her eyebrows raised. She wasn't sure if she should be happy that he was captured or insulted that he'd been so easy to capture. "Well, I'll be sure to dispatch him."

"Is something wrong?" Catherine caught the look. "I told you as soon as I possibly could."

"Just disappointed I allowed myself to get injured." She shook her head and smiled to herself. "I take great pride in my work."
