WHO: Annie & Keller
WHAT: Vegas hustlin'
WHERE: Um, Vegas.
WHEN: After Miniver's spoken with his brothers
WARNINGS: Likely pouncing from either or both. It's always possible with Annie.

She'd finally heard from Keller, and told him to meet her outside the roulette room at Mandalay Bay. One of the first things she'd done on getting to this world was have a decent fake ID made. It wasn't as if her parents minded - hell, Daddy had been the one to teach her how to hustle - and really, it was a better way to spend her time than going to clubs and trying to keep skeevy little chav boys off her.

Annie was dressed nicely, and even made up as best she could manage. She looked a bit older than her age to begin with, but dressing older helped even more. If she was going to get blacklisted from a casino, it would be better for it to be after winning a crapton of cash.

Keller hadn't dressed up much, he was much dressier than she'd ever seen him, sure, he even had a suit jacket, but it was his usual western-collared buttondown under it, and jeans, even though they were black, and clean, and probably brand new, they were still jeans.

As far as Vegas went, he was pretty unremarkable, middle-of-the-road, easy-to-miss-if-he-weren't-so-freakishly-tall kind of thing. He smiled crookedly when he saw her, "Well look at you all dolled up."

"Gotta look the part." She grinned, kissing him lightly, pulling him down so she could reach. Even in heels he was a freakin' foot taller than her. "Clearly I have to learn to walk in eight inch heels." For now, the three-inch she had on would have to do.

She folded her arms, looking up at him, smiling almost impishly. "So, what's your game? Or games, plural?"

He shook his head, "You'd still be an arm rest, only a wobbly one, so it's not worth it, and I pretty much suck equally at everything." This was only mostly true. He sucked enough that when he was doing it on purpose people took it in stride.

He offered an arm, "So, up to you."

"Ass." It was affectionate - tall people had used her as an elbow rest for most of her life, her uncle first among them. She took his arm and looked around. "Probably save poker for last. I'm best at it. Maybe blackjack or roulette?" Both were games with enough human interaction - that weren't a guaranteed lock for the house - where hustling could likely go unnoticed.

"Yeah, but you love it anyway." There was a nod at the suggestion, "Whichever's closer. Or whichever's further away, if you want to walk around some, get a look at the place."

"Roulette's right there." It looked full, though. After a few minutes she found the blackjack room and nodded. "Looks perfect in there." She added belatedly, "Daddy always said the best places are rooms where there's people, but not a crush. If you're winning in a crush, all eyes are on you." She hoped she wasn't repeating what he already knew.

"Makes sense." He said with a nod, because really, the same thing went for losing, and that was something he knew for a fact. And besides that, even if it was something he already knew, it didn't hurt to hear it again.

He seemed ok with it. Cool. Annie nodded, walking casually into the blackjack room. This was only the third or fourth time she'd done a real hustle, but she'd enjoyed it the first few times. She took a seat at a table, with an open seat on her left if Keller wanted to join, or just watch.

He settled beside her, if she was going to win they might as well make it believable, since he was pretty damn good at loosing.

It was a hobby, of sorts.

She'd try it. Keller took the seat next to her, and it was definitely simpler to read him - read someone she knew - and try to play that to her advantage.

Annie simply knew how to count cards - didn't work so well in poker, but it was tailor made for blackjack. She did her best to try to make her luck seem natural - occasionally hitting when she knew she would bust - and after a while, noticed that when Keller moved his hand a certain way before motioning for a card, he would invariably bust. If he was doing it on purpose, he was smarter than he let on, and if he was doing it unintentionally, it was just as handy. Not like she wouldn't use a decent part of her winnings for something he'd enjoy, not just her.

It wasn't something intentional, actually, he was, for the most part, unaware of any of his tells.

The game wasn't a total loss for him, though it was barely breaking even. But that was the way it went for him most of the time, so it wasn't a surprise.

The other thing Annie had learnt at her father's knee was when to bow out. She took a huge pot off the other four at the table - Keller included, what with that hand twitch - but instead of getting up from her chair right then, she played a few more hands. It wouldn't do to walk away on top - even if no one suspected her of card counting, it tended to piss people off.

After she'd busted out on a smallish pot, she rose from table, getting a voucher for the couple grand she'd managed to win.

Keller almost pouted, but only almost, arm sliding around her waist as they walked, "Well you were right, you're damn good." He shrugged, "Not that I doubted it or anything." Because he hadn't, in fact, he rarely doubted anything she said unless he knew for a fact that she was messing with him.

"Daddy is not to be messed with around a card table, and he taught me." Annie shrugged, but smiled conspiratorially the next second. "Come on, not like you won't get it back in good food and massages. Was going to book a fancy suite here unless you have something you gotta do tonight." If he really did have somewhere to be, she could always collect some other time.

He shook his head, "Nope, no other plans, and note to self, no poker night at the Winchesters, got it." There was a crooked little smile again, shrugging, "Not that I would've gone for it anyway, I don't think."

"Poker night at our place? Well, now you know." Annie grinned, leaning her head on his shoulder, or as close to his shoulder as she could reach. "Between me, Mom and Daddy, never mind Robbie ... well, just yeah, don't. We all cheat." She laughed. "Is there anything you're really good at, or should we just keep working the rooms? Should probably not hit more than three or four or the casino staff might get snoopy."

"See? I'm not a complete idiot." He shrugged one shoulder, arm still around her waist, "Just most of one, sometimes. And I think more rooms is good, don't really have any innate skill except for darts, and that's not really an option around here."

"Darts, seriously?" She bet he could wipe out a pub or three if he put his mind to it, but kept the thought to herself. "That's kinda cool." They ambled into the next room where Annie saw games like video poker, but it made more sense to go for the roulette wheel.

He nodded, "Yep. Pretty much the only thing I'm good at, really, when it comes to games, hell, I even suck at frisbee, and that's hard to do." It was possible that he was teasing, really.

Roulette was something he wasn't as bad at, but only because he actually made smart bets, groups or blocks or corners, and small bets at that.

"So you're better with sharp objects than almost anything." Annie chuckled, but lowered her voice when they came near the wheel. "If I lay a really big bet on a seemingly random number, feel free to ask me if I'm nuts. Looks like beginner's luck that way."

Once they got to the wheel, Annie followed Keller's betting pattern for a while, and broke about even. "Smart," she commented, loud enough to be heard by random passersby and other players. But she'd noticed the flick of the casino boss's wrist - there was a way a man could spin red and black anytime he wanted.

"Not all sharp objects though." he said, shrugging, "I tend to fail pretty badly at kitchen knives." This was only a slight exaggeration, and he nodded at her statement, "And who better to judge your insanity." was the amused, murmured, reply before leaning in to kiss her ear.

"But my insanity is so interesting for you." Annie smiled, leaning back against him as they placed bets. She kept to the corner strategy for a while longer, just so she could be sure of where the pit boss' wrist went when he spun the wheel.

After the next bet, she gathered up her stack of chips and placed it on red .... she decided on 22 before she released the stack. If he spun the wheel as hard as he had been, it would land either on the 22, or the number right next to it. It was why she didn't risk her entire stack. This was a lot more inexact than blackjack.

He chuckled at that, shaking his head, one arm looping around her waist, really just because he could at that point, "You really are crazy." He shook his head, chin hooking over her shoulder, even though he had to bend over to do it, it was still oddly comfortable, "You've kept me around this long, you must be."

"I kinda like you." Annie held her breath as the wheel spun, landing on the red 22. "Well, how'd you like that." She smiled at the pit boss as he passed her chips to her, and she looked back up at Keller. "I really gotta wear higher heels. Your back must hurt, leaning down like that."

He shrugged, straightening again, but keeping his arm around her waist, "Eh, I'm used to it, just can't do it for too long is all." There was a crooked little smile, "And good that you kinda like me, because I kinda like you too. Go figure." He'd even give her reasons if she wanted them. The big one was that she put up with him.
