Who: Johanna & Calliope
Where: New York
When: Now-ish
What: Mother-daughter outing.
Warnings: Yes, probably of the bloody kind.

Johanna and Calliope had decided that they really ought to spend some time together, and after making sure that Gatlin could look after himself for a few hours, Johanna whisked herself away to New York to meet with her mother. She was wearing pants for once, sleek, well-pressed slacks, and a buttondown blouse to go with, she had a blazer draped over her arm, since it wasn't quite cold enough out to require it, and she wouldn't feel the cold anyway, but sometimes she liked pretending to fit in.

She squared her shoulders as she strode through the park, heading for the corner cafe where she'd arranged to meet her mother. Even though it was a city she only barely knew, she swept through the place like she owned it, heels clicking smartly on the pavement. It wasn't that she was ignoring the people around her, or that he was oblivious, she was paying more attention than any of them were, fox in the henhouse, so to speak.

Calliope was sitting at the cafe on the corner, raising a cup of coffee to her lips from time to time but never sipping. She tapped her toe lightly. She'd left a note for Ariel in case he woke, letting him know she'd gone out to fetch some food.

Which she had.

Just not for him.

Johanna brushed a kiss against Calliope's cheek before perching herself in the chair across from the other woman, beaming broadly, "Hello mum." She was all sorts of gleeful the past few days, mostly on account of having a friend, a real friend, "How've you been?"

"I'm well, sweetheart, how are you?" Had she been mortal, she would have glowed at Johanna calling her mother. Since she hadn't fed in a while, a bright smile would have to do.

Another bright smile, or just a different angle of the same one, "Doing quite well myself." She nodded then, "And Gatlin's learning well, I may have told you as much."

"I spoke with him a bit. He's a sweet boy, I see why you like him." Easily dominated. Calliope had a Type for her pets.

The smile went just a little more bashful then, or at least as bashful as she could manage these days, "He says I'm beautiful." She wasn't sure yet if she believed it or not, but she liked hearing it all the same.

"You are. You always will be. He's simply honest." She preferred Johanna's beauty to her own; Johanna was colder in her looks than Calliope.

"I suppose I'll get used to hearing it sometime." She said with a shrug, "And I may eventually believe it." She knew she was pretty, she used that to her advantage more often than not, but beautiful wasn't something she'd ever considered.

"If he's the one for you, he'll make you believe it." She smiled and squeezed her daughter's hand, giving her a little half-smile. "I don't even care about my looks anymore. Too many people comment on them."

She almost blushed at that, she'd been eating well as of late, making sure that Gatlin knew what he was doing, "Well, you've had longer to practice at it than I have. It's still new and shiny to me."

"You are very young, but I have no doubt that you'll live to my age." She folded up her newspaper, standing and smoothing out her tight skirt. "Walk with me? I need to get supper for myself."

"Of course." She said, unfolding easily and slipping into her blazer, tugging the collar straight, "I ought to get something as well, just a snack, really."

"We can share, of course." She grinned and swung her purse lightly, wondering where to go to get food. She just walked; Calliope had been hunting long enough that she just knew when a victim would come along. She could practically smell them, a certain tang to the blood. Kitt had smelled that way - he was just friends with the bitchiest and most flighty of deities. It had been just her luck.

She saw a guy a few corners down, a bit twitchy and nervous looking. It was like a stamp on his forehead that said "tourist". She nodded at Johanna, moving toward him. "Need help?"

Johanna, for her part, had gone perfectly harmless again, hands clasped lightly in front of her, smiling that perfectly innocent smile.

Granted, the act didn't fool everyone, in fact, most marginally sane people still got that little alarm going off in the back of their head so they just steered clear of her on principle, "Looking for someplace in particular? I'm sure we can point you in the right direction."

The guy was too sick of being lost to really worry about it; he went with Calliope, unfamiliar enough with the city to actually follow into an alley.

Calliope wasted no time sinking her fangs into his throat, sighing with pleasure. He was well fed and not ill. She loved that he wasn't a junkie, or one of the city's homeless. God bless tourists.

And of course no one was going to miss him, it was a big city, people got lost there all the time. Johanna smiled faintly as she watched, keeping tabs on the pathway behind them just to make sure they weren't followed.

"That was lovely." She said once Calliope had finished, "I still tend to rough them up a little." Even the ones that she occasionally let live.

"If I'm just eating, I don't tend to play with my food. If I'm feeling feisty, I'll go find someone and take them home so I don't have to hurry."

She beamed again, shaking her head, "And I don't ever take them home." She shrugged, "Then again I don't generally play with my food either." Not that there was anything wrong with that, of course, it just wasn't a hobby of hers.

There was another faint smile at that, shaking her head, though it wasn't in disagreement, and wasn't to dislodge Calliope's fingers either, "We're stuck with each other now, he and I. Which I don't think really bothers either of us."
