WHO: Antigone, Sam, Alexandra & Kitt (one of these things is not like the other)
WHAT: Family dinner
WHERE: The Winchester Home
WARNINGS: Language? The guns have been hidden

The flash was instantaneous and like that, the Palace was gone and both Kitt and Alexandra found themselves in the foyer at the house in London. Not Anne's personal home, but the Winchester family home. Thankfully, both of them were dressed, having been on the beach, and Alex frowned. Antigone stood there, at the foot of the stairs, a small smile on her face.

"I'm glad you could join us. Kitt, I hope that you're feeling better." She gave him a long look, up and down, as if she were judging his state of being and his state of mind. She was. "If not, well. You're next relapse will see you in far less luxurious accommodations." She turned her gaze on her daughter. "As for you, sweetheart? Your father would like to have a word." She glanced at Kitt. "Privately." She didn't remove her eyes from Alex's companion. "Later."

Her smile widened and she motioned toward the kitchen and expansive dining room. It were almost as if she had two personalities going. "Dinner's almost ready. Don't worry, you two. I've hidden the guns. Even the small ones." She winked. "Especially the big ones."

Kitt flashed a look over at Alex, wide-eyed and shrugging his shoulders. He'd thought the portkeys were bad; the flashing was ten times more disconcerting, and especially where he and Alex found themselves flashed to. He instinctively reached for Alex's hand, squeezing it briefly. He'd lost his voice, unable to answer Anne's simple question. He'd been doing just fine, right up until about twenty seconds ago.

Alex squeezed Kitt's hand and gave him a reassuring look before giving her mother a questioning one. Nevertheless, she took the hint and led the way into the kitchen where she saw her father heading into the dining room.

"Daddy," she said, her voice showing her love. Dropping her hand from Kitt's, she gave her father a strong hug and then motioned with her head. "Come on, Kitt. Pick a seat." To her father, under her breath, she said, "Daddy, be nice."

Antigone tried her best to hide a smile, and truthfully could have done better, but seeing Alexandra try and dictate to Sam? It was kind of cute.

"Hi, baby." Sam wrapped his arms around his daughter and held her close for a moment. At her request, however, he made a face. "No promises kid."

Sam waited for his wife to come stand by him, before he gripped her hand, laced their fingers together and brought her hand to his mouth for a quick kiss. He was stronger with her by him, that was for sure. And he was going to need her strength right now.

Pick a seat. He was sure those words had some sort of meaning, but for the life of him he couldn't make any sense of them. Instead, he stood rooted to the spot, watching the family dynamics of a family he was sure he'd never fit into, an abashed look on his face.

The words had held no special meaning, but Anne motioned to the nearest seat, leaving the head of the table for Sam, of course. She gave her husband her coquettish eye, practically batting them for him. He was so good to her, to their daughter who had done nothing but cause trouble since her arrival. The girl hadn't even been conceived yet, and here she was...

"I love you," Anne whispered to Sam. To be honest, and this was something she couldn't admit out loud, Sam was a far better father than she ever would be a mother. She eased into the chair opposite the one he would sit in and motioned for Alex to sit, which the younger girl did.

The food on the table consisted of a small chicken and mashed potatoes, corn and wine.

Sam winked, ever so slighty at Anne before taking his seat at the head of the table. He watched the others settle in and took the bottle of wine on the table and poured some for himself and Anne. In a voice he'd not heard for quite some time, he asked if Kitt would like any and gave his teenaged daughter a sharp, reproachful look that told her what her answer would be if she asked for some, too. She might do as she pleased at her mother's home in Troy, but this was his damned castle, dammit.

"No, thank you." He could barely bring himself to meet Sam's eyes, but he did it because, well, he had to. And while it was polite of Sam to ask, he knew that he and alcohol were no longer friends.

This was the most incredibly awkward dinner he'd ever attended.

Alex didn't know either, but she gave her father a snooty look when he told her no with his facial expression. Then she gave Kitt a sweet look and folded her napkin in her lap.

Anne, on the other hand, knew exactly why Kitt said no and was proud of him for doing so. To her daughter, she gave a chastising look and followed it up with an, "Alexandra. Be nice to your father."

Then she stood and began to serve dinner. The awkwardness was almost physical to her, but she wasn't bothered. The men would work it out. OR... Sam would kill Kitt. One or the other.

What *do* you say to a man (or a car) that not only knew what your wife looked like naked, but now your teenaged daughter who was barely legal enough for you to even consider such a thing?

"So," he cleared his throat. "Alex, how was the beach?"

Sam was sooo going to be partaking in one of those bottles Eliot had sent him after this whole mess was over. And he'd be getting Anne to join him as well.

Probably the same thing Kitt felt like saying to Sam, which was not much of anything, really. He dropped his eyes in favor of following Alex's lead with the napkin-folding, knowing that he didn't need to bother because eating was absolutely out of the question.

And he prayed that Alex would answer carefully.

Antigone was well aware of the uncomfortableness of the situation. As soon as everyone was served, she sat back down and took a sip of her wine. She gave Sam a small smile, then lifted her knife and fork, taking a delicate bite before turning her attentions to Alexandra.

For her part, Alexandra had finally noticed that Kitt wasn't happy where he was. He wasn't eating, he wasn't drinking and he wasn't paying any attention to anyone at the table, not even her. Ever so carefully, she reached a sandaled foot out and ran it up Kitt's leg, forcing him to relax. Keeping her foot in motion, albeit g-rated, she turned to her father. "It was beautiful, as always, Daddy. The water is warm. You and Mom should go visit soon."

"Maybe we will." Sam squeezed Anne's hand on top of the table. The tension in the room was making him wish he was there, right now.

He stopped short of the 'what are your intentions towards my daughter' speech and simply sighed. "So, are the two of you together now? What's the story?

Alex couldn't have been more wrong. On the contrary, Kitt was paying attention to EVERYTHING. Especially Alex's foot on his leg, which he had to admit did calm him, some. Enough to be able to actually look at Sam when he answered his question, but not before exchanging glances with Alex.

He nodded slowly. "We are together, now. The story is that I wish to make her happy." He couldn't help himself; he looked over at Alex when he said it, a tiny smile on his face.

Alex smiled back at him, then turned her gaze on her father. She was with Aidan: it was so odd seeing her parents together here, but she wasn't going to knock it. The other thing that was odd? Her father, at the age he was, being as protective as he was. After all, Mom pretty much looked the same, always, but Dad? It was just weird.

It was Antigone whose eyebrows went up as she looked at Kitt. Not out of jealousy or anything wacky like that, but because he seemed to be picking his women rather... quickly. After all, it wasn't that long ago that he was swearing his love for that mortal girl... even with the seven year difference. Still, she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if her daughter was. She, herself, had made some dumb mistakes in her younger days. Of course, she'd threaten Kitt in her own time. "I hope that you do. Make her happy." Or maybe a little threat now. "You know what I mean."

Another sip of her wine.

"Mom!" Alexandra was not amused.

If there was one thing he was certain of, it was that he would never, EVER, think of, much less call, Anne 'Mom'.

Ever.

She had a point; he had been declaring his love rather recently. And while he didn't think that love would ever dissipate, it didn't mean that he wasn't ready to move on and love again.

And Alex was very easy to love.

His voice was quiet, his remark directed solely at Anne. "You know my heart, Anne." He knew exactly what she meant, but he also knew that he meant exactly what he said.

He smiled softly at Alex again.

"Okay, look. I can't pretend I'm overjoyed about this, or that I'm even happy about it. But I know I can't *do* anything about it so, there it is." He sighed again, grasping Anne's hand for strength.

"Be happy, Alexandra. Okay? But just be smart. And you? You better make her happy, or I swear you'll be answering to me about it."

He finally looked at Sam. Really looked at him, man to man, as one father to another.

"I don't expect you to be. Everything about this is entirely unexpected. All that I can tell you is that I fully intend to do exactly as you say - to make her as happy as she can possibly be, and then more if it's within my power. I don't want to be at odds with you. I want the same things for your daughter that you do."

Alex turned a Look on Kitt. "I have a dad. But I like the things you do for me." Her expression was All Innocence. Turning back to her dad, she said, "Daddy, if he makes me UNhappy, I'm sure I can handle it. I promise. And he's a good guy. He is."

When she looked back at Kitt, she winked.

Kitt blushed, dropping his eyes again. If he could crawl under the table at that very moment, he would have. As it was, he picked up his glass to take a drink of water instead, doing his best to avoid all eyes.

Except for the glance that he snuck at Alex when she called him a good guy, just in time to see her wink.

Sam just nodded, in an attempt to make sure his mouth just didn't start saying things and ruin the newly formed truce they had going on here.

He picked up his fork and took a bite of dinner, even if his appetite wasn't joining him this evening.

Something that Kitt could relate to, completely. Mouths that just started saying things, unbidden. The curse of humanity.

He sighed, wondering if this truce would ever be anything more. If every family gathering was going to be like this one, in the future he'd do his best to make sure he was busy elsewhere.

Well, Anne couldn't (and wouldn't) have that. Mostly because she quite enjoyed watching Kitt squirm after the worry he'd put her through with that vampire thing. Of course, to put Kitt through torture was to torture Sam, so she had to rethink her strategy.

After another sip of wine, she handwaved the dinner off the table. "No one's hungry, I see." Propping her elbows on the table, she put her chin in her hand and eyed Sam with a sweet look. "Darling, he does care for her." And I love you. "If he causes her harm, I'll hold him down while you get to play with your big guns."

Then she turned her look on Kitt. "I don't believe you'll hurt her. I know you don't have a truly menacing bone in your body, as it stands in this form. Hearts break far more easily, but she's a strong young woman from what I've seen, and despite recent events, I do trust you." Hopefully, the smile she gave him went a small way toward easing his fear of her. And of Sam.

Alexandra chose that moment to break in. "Now that you're done talking about me like I'm not here, can I take Kitt OUT for dessert? I hope you're done terrorizing him."

"Alex.." Sam started in that warning tone he'd heard so many times from his own father. So he stopped. "If you mother trusts him, then so do I. Terrorizing done, okay?"

Sam blew out a long breath and leaned back in his chair. Maybe she'd surprise them all and break up with him next week. He'd have to learn to be a little more laid back when it came to stuff like this or he was going to give himself agida. Dean had the right idea about it, but Sam sort of felt his overprotective nature was due to the way he was raised BY Dean. He'd have to be more careful with his words from now on.

Kitt looked at Sam with frank surprise and no small measure of gratitude. "Thank you." He wasn't quite sure how to address Sam, so he left it at that.

For the first time, he felt confident enough to reach across the table, taking Alex's hand in his own, smiling shyly at her.
