Who: Karen and House
Where: Some random bar in NY.
When: Around 3 P.M.
Warnings: Swearing, alcohol consumption.

Karen decided to wrap up her last hour before meeting House by spending half checking Landon's vitals, and spending a little time with him before heading home to change and run a brush through her hair, taking care of a few mascara smudges and obvious skin flaws before heading out to the bar she'd suggested to House. She still felt like a major ass, knowing he'd even pinpointed it before it had happened, post pregnancy hormones, post partum depression. Not a serious case, and she was already on something for it, she'd just been careless and forgotten the pill that morning. After seeing the baby tho, she felt a lot better.

Parking and going inside she went straight to the bar, ordering a glass of Chivas Regal on the rocks. She'd never been a fruity drink girl, but she reserved any Scotch drinking for when her nerves were really worked up. Reaching over she grabbed a peanut from the tray nearest, shelled it and popped it into her mouth, making a face and deciding, wisely, to leave the peanuts and just drink.

She sighed, nodding. "'s just, of all days, y'know?" She shrugged it off. "I'm just glad they're ok, I'll poke around and see what the performance schedule is tonight and send you an email with dates I can go, and you can let me know when we can get them, give you and Ray a break."

"You couldn't have known." He nodded at the discussion of the ballet, smiling a little. "Alright. We're getting better at shoving them off on people, though, so no rush,"

"People plural? You mean you're not just forcing them off on Mark? I'm impressed." She chuckled a litt, nodding. "Be best to do before Landon comes home, whenever that is."

"Well, their circle of friends has grown to include that Andrew, Mark's new girlfriend's kid. So that makes getting him to take them to her, a lot easier. And Orlinda's back in the states. Yes, people plural," He rolled his eyes again, before nodding to her at mention of Landon. "Then you'll get the fun of 3 am feedings and dirty diapers."

Karen looked at him with both brows raised. "Mark's got a girlfriend with a kid? Wow." She shook her head, sticking her tongue partially out at his eyeroll, snickering at the last bit. "Oh, yeah. Well. Excluding tomorrow, since I did the booze thing today, I'll just keep thinking 'These 3 A.M. feedings are giving me the best rack ever. And it'll be ok."

He laughed a little at her logic, "If only we could convince all new moms of that, we'd never have to worry about the nursing versus simulac conversations, ever again."

"Nothing beats 'What are the benefits of breast pumps?'." She laughed at that a little more than she probably should. "Ohh God, I'm not looking forward to being elbow deep in placenta again 'til they rebuild Kent."

Greg laughed right along with her, before giving her a funny look about being elbow-deep in placenta, "Then take your maternity leave for now, while you find somewhere else to work. Cuddy'll hire you back once the hospital's up. She'll need the bodies, once the old asses get the taste of retirement and choose to stay gone,"

"Yeah, I will. I just don't know how long I'll be able to stay on it. Been working since I could, my Dad got me an internship with a doctor he gave discounts to for years and years right out of high school. I get crazy. Restless. We'll see, I guess." She sighed. "Speaking of Dad, you certainly made quite a good impression."

"Which makes my record... three and 2,432 as far as patient-family satisfaction goes." He twirled a finger around, in the international sign of 'underwhelming'.

"Pete's a nice guy, and you're on the staff. I didn't have much of a choice,"

She glanced at him with a sigh, shook her head and continued like he'd said nothing. "Such a good impression, that Dad donated $5,000 to the best charity in the New York area, that funds research for surgical and prosthetic methods of treatment for children like Reina, that were born deaf." She finished the second drink off, looking over at him with a soft smile.

And suddenly, he felt like a dick for joking. "Seriously? Wow," Greg smiled a little, taking another drink. "Remind me to thank him."

She chuckled. "Yeah, he's got a soft spot for kids, hence my existance." She decidedly didn't go into that, shrugged, returning to shelling and eating peanuts, they tasted a lot better with her mildly drunk. "Not a big deal to him, he's been putting money I send him away since I was just out of school."

He wasn't quite sure what to say to that, so he just took a drink. Until;

"Part of me wants to look around, ask people what it would take to get her to be able to hear. But- it's all she's ever known. She's happy, healthy. I don't want to... screw that up, just because it's 'normal' to hear." Greg sighed, taking another drink. He wasn't sure why he'd just said that, either, but there it was.

She nodded quickly. "Oh, I understand, I do. More now than ever. I'm pretty sure their main focus is newbors, really young babies, but it's a good way to make sure what happened to Reina doesn't happen to another girl or boy, at least in the future. They'll know what sound is like as well as you and I."She signed along with the last six words or so, smiling softly.

Greg smiled back. "Yeah. I just.. on the flip side, if I can fix it, I should. Medical school, 101." He wasn't sure why he was pressing this. He'd had a lot of random shit on his mind lately, but that seemed to be the end of his offerings, as he went back to his drink, turning away a little.

She smiled and popped another nut into her mouth, glancing over to some scored of a football game on a screen nearby. Eyes watching intently, silently cheeering a player on.
