Who: Hope and Iggy
What: Totally a date.
Warnings: Probably not.

She'd agreed to dinner in a restaurant, but when she saw how crowded it was, she started to regret it. School was one thing.. It was sort of a concentration of freaks. This restaurant seemed to be full of normal people. Hope had worn a black jacket over her shirt, her wings folded underneath. It was uncomfortable, but it let her blend in. She should be more used to it by now.

She sat down in the waiting area, waiting for a table to become free. She looked up and saw Iggy. She smiled and moved over to him. "Hey."

Hope smiled. "She seemed like a lot of fun." She'd been relieved, too, to see Navi had wings. Just put her at ease.

"The window?" She suggested. It was sort of away from people, but it was also what someone might think of as a nice location, aesthetically speaking. She took her tray and started that way. Iggy could probably navigate by draft or sound of her footsteps, or just by memory. She half-watched him, though, just to make sure he didn't look lost.

He nodded, "She really is, did she tell you she teaches kindergarten? She really loves kids and really loves learning things." He nodded again, "Window's good."

He was able to follow her footsteps easily enough, shifting his tray to one hand to brush the edge of the table with his fingertips once he got to it, setting the tray down lightly and catching the back of her chair to pull it out for her, smiling crookedly.

	She sat down, smiling. "Yeah, she mentioned it." She took a sip of her shake. "So, don't take this the wrong way, but I'm kind of glad you can't see me eat, 'cuz this is not gonna be attractive," she said, grinning as she unwrapped her burger and started to eat. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Iggy laughed at that, shaking his head, "Can't be any worse than listening to the rest of the Flock at feeding time." He shrugged then, digging into his own burger. Unlike the others he was almost obsessively careful, mostly so that he didn't accidentally bite his fingers, but also so that no one watching would be able to tell he couldn't see what he was doing. 	Hope managed to resist scarfing her food down. Still, even slowing down a bit she finished her burger before Iggy. She took a sip of her shake. "Y'know, I'm really glad you're here. Like, of everyone that I could've run into.. This is just really lucky." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	He nodded at that, "They tell me that's how the place works, that sometimes people from about the same time and place all end up coming in together or at least close together. "There's a lot of people from our world that I really wouldn't want to run into." The way Hope kept to herself, she hadn't really been wishing to meet anyone from her world. She was a little surprised at the feeling of relief Iggy and his wings provided her.

"You've just been really nice," she said, smiling. "And cute." Hope was sort of glad it was Iggy and not the darker male of their group. He seemed sort of standoffish and just.. Well, Hope preferred Iggy.

	That last comment probably went right over his head, he wasn't used to hearing it, and likely wouldn't process it until sometime later. What he said was: "Pretty much most people from back home I wouldn't want to run into here." He shrugged, "Really the only ones that matter at all are the Flock. "I was." She wasn't even sure she should use past tense in that answer yet. "I just kind of.. kept my head down, and pretended none of it had happened. I acted so normal it'd make your teeth hurt." That... didn't really make sense. "Or. Something." She shrugged. "I just let myself get lost. Changed my hair every now and then. Just tried not to get any attention." They might not have even been looking for her. She didn't really know for sure.

"I don't think they had a way to track me.. I had a.. uh.. chip?" Her throat tightened a little as she remembered the experience, and she swallowed nervously. "But I took it out."

Hope winced. "Uh. Arm? Mine wasn't in my arm. It was on my neck." She started to gesture, but it would've been sort of pointless. Wedged in bone sounded.. Yuck.

"I sort of have this.. thing I can do?" It was probably a little silly for her to worry about Iggy thinking she was crazy, after everything they'd both been through. She'd never had to explain it to anyone before, and she didn't really know how, so she just reached across the table and did it. She plunged her hand through the table, her fingers going intangible and disappearing into the formica surface. She then bumped Iggy's hand lightly with her wrist, inviting him to feel the end result.

His fingers slid across the tabletop, brow furrowing at the nudge, and then furrowing more deeply as they circled her wrist, taking a moment to realize what had happened, both brows arching once he had, "That's awesome." He shook his head then, running a hand over his hair once more, "And yeah, Max's is in her arm. Neck though, like... where the expiration date shows up?"

She pulled her hand out of the table and shrugged. "It wasn't really awesome at the time. The scientists found out about it while I was still there." Hooray for tests.

"The what? Expiration date?" Like on milk? She'd purposefully kept herself out of the loop of anything related to the Institute. Considering how happy and fun things like 'expiration date' sounded, she couldn't imagine why she'd avoided it.

He nodded, jaw tightening just for a moment at the first, he knew all about that after all.

"Expiration date, like... uh, like on dairy products, just programmed into the DNA, we know Erasers have them, we kind of figure that we've all got them, we just don't know when they'll crop up." He brushed his fingers across the back of his neck, "It's actually the creation date, pops up right about here, but once it comes up you've got maybe a week before everything just stops."

She flexed her fingers a little, rubbing her knuckles. "Yeah. Fun times."

She frowned a little as she listened. She'd seen Erasers as she'd grown up.. Out in the yards, acting as guards. There hadn't been too many of them, since there weren't as many 'viable lifeforms' as there had been at the School. She shivered. "That's.." She could hardly believe it. An expiration date? Like, no matter how hard they tried to live.. No matter how well they stayed hidden, no matter how healthy they ate or whatever, they still only had a pre-programmed amount of time before their batteries stopped running? She was speechless.

He just nodded, "Yeah. Exactly." They'd all been pretty speechless about it when they'd first learned, "So far as we know only the Erasers have them, but we don't know for sure that we don't. We've lasted longer than any Erasers yet, so that's a good sign."

He shrugged, dredging his fries through the ketchup on his plate with eerie accuracy, "Maybe we do, maybe we don't. I try not to worry about it too much."

"Wow.." She shivered and nodded. "I guess there's not a lot we can do." That was just depressing. She would probably be checking her neck compulsively for a while. Sheesh. She wondered if it would even show up over the scar tissue. What a mess.

She'd mostly finished her food already, which was a good thing, because eating right now just seemed.. wrong. Flashbacks and expiration dates.. It was almost enough to make even a bird kid lose their appetite.

Iggy still checked every day or two, and Navi checked more often than that, "Watch and wait." He said with a shrug, "That's about all we can do." He shook his head then, "The Erasers hardly ever live past three or four years, so we've got them beat by over a decade, best guess is we haven't got an expiration date, but we don't know for certain. Don't know if there's anyone here who could find out either."

Hope sighed, letting her head drop into her hands. "I really hate scientists." Who did they think they were, programming people with freaking expiration dates? Hadn't they done enough to her? To all of them? They really were just 'things' to those jerks. Just experiments.

This was a significantly less cheery date than she'd been hoping for. Stupid scientists ruined everything.

	Hope didn't really interpret that as brotherly affection. Fortunately, though, she didn't lunge across the table and shove her tongue down his throat this time. She lifted her head, smiling shyly. 	"Sure." He said, nodding, drawing his hand back slowly when she moved, "There's a park down the block, we passed it on the way up. Sort of halfway between the restaurant and here." Hope picked up her own tray. "It's by the door, on the right." She didn't mind getting his trash for him, but didn't want to step on his toes. She got up, letting her shoulder brush against his so she could 'guide' him discreetly. She dumped her trash first and stepped aside for him.

"Park sounds good," she said, moving toward the door. It was dark by now, which suited Hope just fine. The less people out, the more relaxed she was.
