Who: Hope and Iggy
What: Totally a date.
Warnings: Probably not.

She'd agreed to dinner in a restaurant, but when she saw how crowded it was, she started to regret it. School was one thing.. It was sort of a concentration of freaks. This restaurant seemed to be full of normal people. Hope had worn a black jacket over her shirt, her wings folded underneath. It was uncomfortable, but it let her blend in. She should be more used to it by now.

She sat down in the waiting area, waiting for a table to become free. She looked up and saw Iggy. She smiled and moved over to him. "Hey."

Iggy smiled in turn, he was doing fine for himself by way of not banging into anyone or anything or tripping over his own feet, fingers resting against the wall now and again as he crossed the waiting area.

It was easier to focus on one voice out of the background murmur, which thankfully wasn't too much of a hubbub this evening, it was crowded, sure, but it was subdued, which helped, "Hey."

"It's pretty. Candles and chandeliers and stuff. Big windows at the far end." Just in case. "And there are some fancy-looking people." Hope wasn't too underdressed, but mainly that's because she'd been wanting to impress Iggy.

"I'm... kinda thinking we should've picked a less popular spot," she confessed, a little sheepish. It was a nice restaurant and everything. She'd been thinking more about ambiance and romantic-ness and crap than practicality. She was feeling more antsy than she thought she would.

He shrugged at that, fingers resting lightly on her arm, partly to keep himself centered and partly to keep her from bolting again, "There's a burger dive a couple blocks down if you want to split." He said, he totally understood the edginess, that was how he'd been the first month or two, even with Navi there to keep him from panicking too badly.

She turned toward him a little, not really thinking of bolting. She smiled crookedly. "Yeah? Are you sure?" She wasn't even sure if he was thinking of tonight on the same level as she was. "I mean, this place is totally date-worthy, and I kinda wanted to be on a date with you."

Then a man bumped into Hope from behind and her shoulders jerked almost all the way up to her ears. She was a little jumpy. "Then again, burgers are cool too."

He smiled again, fingers tightening against her arm a little as she tensed from the bump, "And when you need as much as we do to keep going, burgers are totally a date."

Which really hadn't been what he'd thinking this was, but he'd go with it if it kept her from running off again. He gave her arm a gentle tug, "C'mon, door?" He hadn't counted the steps coming in, so he wasn't sure how far off he was.

She gave him a tight smile and nodded. "That works for me." She used the arm he was already holding to angle him back to the door. She paused once they reached the handle, giving him the cue so he could open it for her. It was a date, after all. Just because he was blind didn't mean he couldn't be chivalrous.

"Burgers actually sound really good right now," she said, once they were outside. The air was so cool and fresh. At least, as fresh as city air could be. Still, after being in the restaurant, it felt like they were on a farm, or by an ocean or something. An ocean farm that grew oxygen.

Iggy was glad to be outside again as well, actually, that was part of why he liked Navi's house, well, Navi and Raven's house, he supposed, high ceilings and lots of windows.

"You want to walk or you want to fly?" He asked. He'd understand walking, after all, it was a good four months before he'd gone anywhere without keeping his wings hidden. At the moment they were just folded down flat against his back, not tucked away, but out of the way at least.

"Um.. It's not that far," she said, sounding unsure. They were just too exposed. She'd always been so careful before--it was how she'd avoided being caught again. There were times when it felt like she went weeks without flying.

But her muscles were all so tight from being all tensed up. And that guy had bumped against her wings, and she really wanted to give them a stretch. "Walking is good," she said.

"okay." He said with a nod, heading off in the right direction, fingers brushing against walls or newspaper boxes now and again just to keep himself oriented, "Seemed like forever before I went flying anytime besides after dark. Wasn't going to believe that wings are pretty commonplace around here."

He shrugged, "Then this girl I met at a bookstore took a poll of people on the boards? And most of them were indifferent, so I went for it, just hung out in Central Park one day without hiding them, and that went over okay, so I did it again after that."

"Yeah?" She couldn't help but be nervous. But then..she genuinely wanted to trust Iggy. She'd never trusted anyone. Ever. She was sure it would be.. such a relief.

"Come this way," she said, taking his arm and pulling him toward a quiet alley, sheltered from the street's view. It occured to her that if she'd been in Iggy's shoes, her 'Danger! Danger!' sensors would be going off. Hopefully Iggy's 'freakout' trigger wasn't as sensitive as hers.

Quickly, she pulled off the jacket and unfurled her wings to their full, thirteen foot wingspan. She rolled her shoulders, sighing with relief.

Iggy's freakout trigger kind of worked in reverse of everyone else's, he tended to get twitchier when he was taken somewhere with more noise, aside from the occasional stray echo, the alley was nice and quiet and he could almost tell where everything was.

He smiled, both brows arching, focusing somewhere right about the top of Hope's head, "Better?"

"Yeah. Better." She shook out her right wing, working out the kinks. She let her fingers rest on Iggy's arm again as she let her wings fold into a more comfortable, natural resting position, rather than the tight fold she'd been holding before.

"Now.. You swear I can go out there like this and nothing'll happen?" She just had to hear it about a hundred more times before she'd start feeling safe.

He arched a brow then, giving a shrug with his own wings before settling them down against his back again, "Anything happened to me so far?" He knew that practical indications were probably better than just telling her, again.

He smiled then, giving her arm a gentle tug, "C'mon. You'll see."

"Oh geez," she yelped, semi-jokingly as she let him pull her along. "Okay, but if something happens, meet up in Antarctica." Okay, that was a slight exaggeration. "Or Taunton's front gates?"

She brushed her free hand through her curls, feeling pretty self-conscious. Luckily, she'd picked up the skill of shielding her face and staying alert at the same time. "I know you probably think I'm being silly or something. I mean, logically, you'd think I'd realize. But my experience is life isn't always the most logical, y'know?" Maybe they should've flown instead. It mightve felt more secure, and surely there wouldve been less opportunity for babbling. "I'm being a spaz again."

He just nodded, listening to her talk, finally giving her another gentle nudge, pulling open the door. The place had been solely a drive-through in its heyday, but things had slowed down after that, the same as they always did, so they'd enclosed their patio seating area to make it an actual eat-in sort of place.

"Front gates works, but we're here, and unless I'm blind, nothing happened." There he went again, with his usual sardonic humor.

Hope laughed out loud, surprised and relieved, and gave Iggy a playful shove. Now if she just had someone to follow her around and listen to her ramble like a crazy person, she could do this all the time.

This place was way more laid back than the fancy restaurant, and there were just a few people sitting at the tables. "Much better," she said approvingly. "There's nobody in line," she told him, hooking her elbow in his.

He grinned at that, content to let her lead, though he knew right about where the front counter was, and besides that he knew what he liked, waiting until she was ready before ordering his usual double cheeseburger, chocolate-cherry shake and curlyfries.

"Good food here." He added, just in case she'd missed it the first time he'd said so.

She was just sort of co-leading, and more using it as an excuse to be close to him. It was new for her, touching someone this much. She liked it. She ordered a strawberry shake, a double cheeseburger with everything and fries.

"Good," she said, bouncing a little on her toes. "Totally starving. Hey, did you get one of those bear claws I gave your mom the other night?"

He very nearly choked at that, then coughed, shaking his head, "Navi's a sister. I mean, yeah, technically, in the eyes of the law or whatever she's my ... mom." He shook his head, "But really, she's just a big sister."

He shook his head once more, getting back on track, "I did get a couple though, everybody did."

"Oh, sorry," she said, blushing. She shrugged. "She was just talking about her kids and stuff, so I assumed. I mean, I figured she wasn't really." She shrugged again, shaking her feathers a little before letting her wings resettle. "But yeah. That makes sense. She seems young, and all."

"Cool. I used to work at this bakery place. In the morning, before it opened." It was a good way to avoid people, and had the side benefit of free food.

Iggy smiled again, nodding, "Yeah, everybody's a kid to her though, she's a fairy." He shrugged, grinning outright as their food was brought up, "I bet she'd call Raven her kid too, or at least one of her boys, and he's her husband. Fiance, husband, I don't even know which, actually."

He shrugged then, once he'd collected his tray, "Where do you want to sit? Place is pretty open." He could tell because of the reverberations.

Hope smiled. "She seemed like a lot of fun." She'd been relieved, too, to see Navi had wings. Just put her at ease.

"The window?" She suggested. It was sort of away from people, but it was also what someone might think of as a nice location, aesthetically speaking. She took her tray and started that way. Iggy could probably navigate by draft or sound of her footsteps, or just by memory. She half-watched him, though, just to make sure he didn't look lost.

He nodded, "She really is, did she tell you she teaches kindergarten? She really loves kids and really loves learning things." He nodded again, "Window's good."

He was able to follow her footsteps easily enough, shifting his tray to one hand to brush the edge of the table with his fingertips once he got to it, setting the tray down lightly and catching the back of her chair to pull it out for her, smiling crookedly.

She sat down, smiling. "Yeah, she mentioned it." She took a sip of her shake. "So, don't take this the wrong way, but I'm kind of glad you can't see me eat, 'cuz this is not gonna be attractive," she said, grinning as she unwrapped her burger and started to eat.

Iggy laughed at that, shaking his head, "Can't be any worse than listening to the rest of the Flock at feeding time." He shrugged then, digging into his own burger. Unlike the others he was almost obsessively careful, mostly so that he didn't accidentally bite his fingers, but also so that no one watching would be able to tell he couldn't see what he was doing.
