Darius was loitering. He knew he was. The No Loitering sign seemed to frown down at him, but he didn't pay it any attention. He was loitering with a purpose, and nobody seemed to be very bothered by him. The fact that he'd bought a water and something to eat while he waited had probably pacified the shop owner, and beside which, he wouldn't be loitering long.

He hoped. The car he'd rented was sitting in the parking lot a block down (also in a place it was not supposed to be), but he wanted to be close to the portkey. He scratched his face a little, frowning at the day's worth of stubble. It was oddly itchy, and he hoped he wouldn't be too scratchy to kiss. Oh well. He'd shave when they got to the hotel room.

"We wound up talking, well, crying and kind of talking one day, before I talked to you last time. I tried to explain why I went away while she was holed up in her room. And I kind of acted like a prick, so she told me to leave and never come back."

The words are progressively more hesitant, as though he's not quite sure how to get it all out as quickly as possible. "Which is why I've been traveling. I didn't want to go ruin another good family relationship, so I figured I'd wander a little."

"Oh, Darius," she said softly.

"No matter how you acted, she should not, and did not, have the authority to do as she did."

She listens to him, and nods, and then sighs. "You must do as you feel right. But you had...you were distraught after...everything. And no one in your family could be on your side?"

Even Ophelia, with her family strangeness, found that horrible.

He shrugged at the first bit. "I like Nathan and Domino well enough, and they seem to actually care about me, but I don't think I could handle being around them for more than a couple days at a time. And they've got the new babies, and Lorna and Alex are always busy, so I'd just feel like I was in the way. Traveling is nice, anyway. I need to figure out what I want, and I was kind of avoiding that by being what everyone around me wanted me to be."

"I traveled everywhere. It was kind of fun. That's actually one of the reasons I wanted to be an X-man. . . you don't get to travel as much as you'd like to as a businessman. A costumed adventurer gets to go to all kinds of crazy places."

He laughed a little. "I was an idiot when I agreed to do it, but I've learned a lot from the training they gave me." Just not enough to keep himself out of trouble.
