Bella Donna Boudreaux loves cooking and murder ([info]poisonwine) wrote in [info]utr_logs,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:aramis, belladonna boudreaux

Who: Aramis and Belle
What: Sword purchasing and practice
Where: Cardiff
Rating: my guess is that it will be low.

Belle stood outside the shop, smoking a cigarette, her hands shoved deep inside her pockets. It was colder than she was used to, and it made her grumpy. But at least she would be getting in some proper swordplay today, and with a handsome Frenchman, no less.

Not that she had interest in flirting at the moment, but she could always enjoy the view.

Chuckling, he put on his own vest and then bowed politely before standing once more, assuming the position to begin. "On Garde." He practically purred, as it was a term he was fond of and familiar with. Immediately he appeared to go on the offensive, but was really taking a defensive stance by not actually lashing out, only appearing to be doing so.

Belle put her own sword into a defensive stance, turning her telepathy off. He had the advantage of years, reach, and strength on her. But she was fast, and that could count for a lot.

But first she wanted to get a feel for how he moved. So, after a couple seconds, she lashed out, a low blow that would have caught him in his left side.

With an effortless flick of the wrist he blocked the blow and pushed her blade away, taking a chance to go for a high shot at her shoulder. His eyes seemed to be filled with more energy and life then they had been before, gleaming in the sunlight. It was obvious this is where he was most passionate; in the field with a sword in hand. The only other time his eyes held the same gleam was around Athos.

Belle grinned, blocking the blow easily enough. He was good. She was going to loose. But that was okay. After all, you learned more from a loss than a win.

Aramis was impressed she was able to block so many of his attacks though and couldn't help but smirk to himself as they dueled. He was older, but didn't seem to be running out of energy. Finally, he saw what he thought could be the winning blow and went for a jab to her ribs.

She dodged, making a small noise similar to 'eep'. And the sword would have missed, if not for the extra bulk of the padding. "Touche." She admitted, though she wasn't terribly upset by it. "Guess we both have something we can teach the other, hein?"

"Oui, mon cher." Bowing, he sheathed his sword and removed the vest. "A good spar, though. You aren't too shabby."

She bowed as well. "Merci beaucoup. It's nice t' have a sparrin' partner. I've been trainin' on my own for too long."

"Aye, tis very good, having a sparring partner. I must thank you m'lady and I dearly hope you'll be willing to spar with me again sometime." He smiled as he took Belle's vest from her and set them both aside. "Now is there anything I can get you? Some water perhaps? I know I myself am feeling a bit parched."

"If you'll have me, I'd love t' continue trainin' with you. And water sounds really good right now."

She smiled brightly. New friends are always good!

"Oh brilliant. Perhaps if we get tired of swords we can move on to hand to hand combat a little later on." Aramis was almost bouncing with excitement because honestly, having someone to train with sounded like a lot of fun. Athos would be willing to train with him, he was sure but the other man always had so much work to do and was always brooding. "Come on, I'll get you that glass of water."

Motioning inside the house, he picked up the vests and headed inside, dropping them near a closet before heading into the kitchen to get two glasses of water.

"Sounds good. I'm way better at hand-t' hand. But I'm best at ranged combat. Not that y' can practice that practically too easily."

She followed behind, taking in her surroundings. "Your home is beautiful."

"I was never fond of guns or bows myself. Mind, I hear guns have become much more advanced. The ones I had to used were good for one shot. They took too long to reload to use them efficiently." Aramis answered, turning around to offer her a glass of water.

"To be perfectly honest, it's not technically my home. It's my soon to be fiancee's. He owns the vineyard." He corrected with a faint smile.

"Automatic guns are alright, but I don't like them. I got used to usin' a revolver, and, honestly, if I need more than six shots, I'm in the kind of trouble one gun isn't going t' get me out of."

She smiled at the last bit. "Congratulations! Marriage is a wonderful thing."

Even if hers had only lasted a couple hours.

"Oh, six shots? Very nice. As I said, mine had about one...and took ages to reload." Shaking his head he sipped at his own glass of water. "And thank you, but I haven't purposed yet thus I'm only assuming he'll say yes."

"Ah. Well, then good luck!"

It must be nice to have the luxury of choosing your own marital partner. "You must be nervous."

"You've no idea." He laughed softly, and sighed. "I'm afraid his last marriage, back home, didn't end well so he may be reluctant. But I love him and...hope he'll accept. I do care for him greatly."

"I might have some idea. I've been married myself, though only f'r a little bit."

She sipped her water and nodded. "Of course. I hope things work out for y' both."

"Oh? What was it like?" Aramis himself had never been married.

She shrugged. "Honestly, it didn't work out at all. The marriage was shorter than the ceremony, though it wasn't our fault. A jealous man challenged my husband t' a duel durin' the reception, and as a result my husband was exiled from the city."

She shrugged. "But everything up until then was wonderful. Except for dress fittings, but you've sneakily avoided that hassel."

"A duel?" He seemed curious now. "Where did you used to live? I didn't think they still did duels in this day and age..." Aramis was obviously a bit confused but intrigued.

"It's technically illegal, yes. But the society we grew up in was. . .very anachronistic. I mean, I'd been engaged t' him for most of my life. It's like we moved when Louisiana was first colonized, and never stopped doin' things exactly as they'd been done then, no matter what happened."

"I see, how very interesting. So...are you not from these times, then?" Aramis inquired softly, wondering if his and Athos' case wasn't all that strange.

"My time's only about a decade earlier than this."

She shrugged. "I just had a very unusual family life."

"Sounds like it." Aramis didn't remember too much about his parents. They died young, leaving the teenager in the hands of the cardinal to become a pupil and hopefully a priest later on in life.

That, obviously, didn't work out.
