Who: Adrian Veidt, Dan Dreiberg, and a little girl named Meg.
What: Getting Meg an evac to someplace safer.
Where: The Brooklyn Bridge.
When: Now, pretty much.
Warnings: We’ll see. Adrian plans on throwing down no-holds-barred once Meg’s safe, but I may leave that as a “fade to black” moment.

Adrian had been using a speech-to-text program on his phone to communicate, but now that Dan had agreed to help he no longer needed it. He passed it to the little girl, telling her to answer it if it rang. Not that the others had his cell phone number, but it was a precaution he wasn’t prepared to put somewhere hard to reach. “We’ll be fine,” he told her, with a smile. “A friend of mine is coming. He has a ship that can get us out of here.” Of course, part of that was a lie. Adrian didn’t plan on leaving with the girl. He had a feeling he could take the Purifiers, but he wouldn’t be able to take them out and watch over the girl. He intended to pass her off to Dan, and then finish things with this particular group. He wouldn’t let them go on to hurt other people.

“…A spaceship?” The girl’s question surprised him, and he furrowed his brow as he drove. She almost sounded hopeful.

“You know, I never did ask him what altitudes it was tested for,” he mused. “For all I know, he’s been having space adventures this whole time, while I’ve been running a boring business!” He grinned at her, and got a small laugh. That’s much better. Much better. He made a sudden turn, shouting out that he was taking a shortcut and that she should hold on. A series of very tight corners, and one brief moment on a sidewalk, later and they were on the bridge. He gunned it, forcing other cars out of the way, driving like an absolute maniac until he could get to the halfway point on the bridge. Once there, he pulled his car as close to the edge as was safe, scooped the poor girl up, and headed outside. “What’s your name?”

“Meg.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Meg.” He smiled at her, moving around to the hood of his car and backing up very close to the edge of the bridge. “I need you to be brave just a little longer, okay? Just a little longer.”
