who. Sophie Cuckoo and Rose Frost
what. A much needed talk. Possible bitchery.
when. Tonight
where. Casa de Frost

A very sensitive nose was to thank for Rose's foul mood. She'd woken early for breakfast in the morning and bumped into one of the Stepfords as she was on her way to the shower. There'd been a smell on the girl, who Rose had found out a bit later was Esme. It was a smell that shouldn't have been on her skin. James' scent. And that meant... well... Rose didn't want to think about what it meant. Rose couldn't really see past Rachel and how badly she'd react to the news of James being with someone else. So she'd sat at the breakfast table, trying to keep herself from growling at the little blond androids that had sat across from her. It'd been fortunate that Rose had left for school before James. She wasn't sure she could have kept her claws in around him.

She'd done a good job of avoiding them since. In fact, Rose had tried her hand at avoiding everyone she lived with. If she bumped into James, she'd certainly tell him how angry she was (and possibly fight with him). Same with the Stepfords. And if she saw Rachel, she'd project guilty thoughts about the information she'd learned. If she spoke with her parents, she'd plead with them to kick the Cuckoos out. And none of that interaction would end well.

So Rose locked herself away in her room, a book for school in one hand and a green highlighter in the other (she'd been gravitating toward green things lately, though she hadn't consciously noticed her doing so). There were earbuds in her ears and her iPod sat beside her on the bed. Rose was on her stomach, feet up in the air. She hummed a tune quietly as she read and tried to drown the world out. Still, the raincloud hung over her head. Stupid Cuckoos. Stupid, stupid James.

There was a knock and though it registered in Rose's mind, she didn't get up. She looked at the door for a moment and then decided that she didn't want to speak with whoever was outside. They'd have to be a little persistent before Rose would let them in.

"There's a difference between having some distance and being broken," Rose said, still a little stubborn. She stopped before she went off on a tirade. Sophie didn't really need it. Rose brought her legs up and rested her chin on her knees. "You'll be fine," she said softly.

Sophie almost started to argue. There wasn't a difference, not for the Cuckoos. They were the five-in-one or they weren't. But they would recover. She nodded some at Rose's last statement. "Thank you," she said quietly, giving her a small smile. "And thank you for letting me in." It was good to know if things got worse with the Cuckoos, Rose was there. Maybe they could be friends.

Rose shrugged lightly because she didn't want to be gracious and say, "you're welcome." She wasn't so sure about friendship. The Cuckoos were such that Rose wasn't sure Sophie wouldn't go back to defending Esme when they weren't upset with her.

"Tell your sister to stay out of my way." She didn't say it with much anger. Rose sounded tired. "And to leave James alone," she added.

Sophie frowned a little. That would be hard. "I... I will. But.. It may take time before I can." The Cuckoos had to sort out their own problems first. If they split, it would be easier. They might already be splitting, really.

"I will," she said, more definitively. She would at least deliver some mental admonishment at Esme. It was important. What Esme did wasn't right, and Sophie very much wanted things in this family to be all right. "It won't happen again."

"Good," Rose said with a little sigh. Really, there was a large part of her that wanted Esme to approach her and say something stupid. She liked a good fight. Though, really, Rachel had more reason and right to tear Esme to pieces.

Sophie nodded. She stood up. She felt like thanking Rose again, but figured that would be too much. She started toward the door, then turned back again to face Rose. "Rose.. We know you don't want to go out sightseeing with us like we talked about, but... Maybe just the two of us could go out, sometime? After..." After the split. Sophie looked back at her, hopefully.

Whether she admitted it to herself or not, Rose didn't completely despise Sophie. She watched Sophie go quietly, eyes on the floor. It would be weird to hate one sister, be apathetic to three, and actually enjoy one. But it was possible. "I wouldn't mind," Rose said in a lofty tone with a light shrug.

She reached for the book she'd put aside when Sophie had first knocked. "Good luck with everything," she said.

Sophie smiled and nodded, turning back to the door. She felt much better about everything, now. She gave a little wave before leaving the room. She would be strong. Maybe it would be better for them to split, in the long run.

"Thanks. Talk to you later."
