Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:ilya monroe, malakai chmelyk, rurik markov, timey wimey plot

Who: Malakai, Ilya, and Rurik
What: Effects of the Timey Wimey plot, vampire style
When/Where: Tonight, an abandoned house outside Rurik's shop, USA
Warnings: Graphic imagery, mun-coordinated violence, character death. Ish.

Malakai hesitated at the top of the stairs leading to the basement of the dilapidated house he had sensed Rurik in, trying to compose himself for the eventual scene. The smell of drugs and blood flooded his senses, and he had to focus, really focus just to hear the flighty heartbeat of the man downstairs. He couldn't feel the witch's magic in the air, which was perhaps the most unnerving thing, and he finally steeled himself enough to make the trip down the stairs.

He wasn't sure which was more upsetting; the sight of the man hanging from the ceiling, hooks straight through his shoulders, pale enough to already be dead, or the fact that he was momentairly relieved that the man was still in one piece. His steps toward the body were slow, hesitant, as if he was afraid his return was going to ruin the illusion, and scare the man's soul from his body. Once he was close enough, he reached up to undo the chains from the ceiling, taking him down with the hooks still intact. Removing them would cause him to lose the rest of his blood.

Malakai was startlingly gentle as he set Rurik on a nearby table, sitting upright to try and prevent as much bloodloss as possible. He moved forward to draw the man's head to his shoulder, shocked at how cold he felt. He was in shock, he realized, feeling the tremble in his hand as he brushed the man's hair from his face.

"What happened, lover? How did it come to this?" He rocked them gently, waiting for Ilya to arrive, or Rurik to rouse himself, unsure of just what else he could do.

Ilya was up the stairs and out the door of the ramshackle house before Rurik had taken hold. His body had, for all intents and purposes, died in Kai's arms. He'd been drained of his blood, the blood Kai had given him. The give and take of the exchange had not weakened the blood, but perhaps made it stronger, as it passes from vampire to witch and back again, and now back to the witch.

Still, Rurik was slow to react, a generous amount of the precious blood missing his mouth entirely before instinct kicked in and he began to drink, nursing as a child to a bottle.

All the while, Ilya hunted a pair of unsuspecting young hooligans, out late causing mischief, the humble beginnings of a career in bastardry. Really, then, Ilya was doing the city a favor ridding the streets of the two. He lured them to himself, posing as a homeless ruffian, ripe for rolling in the dark of night. When they came in close, unable to resist the temptation, Ilya bashed their heads together to knock them our, and heaved them each over a shoulder to carry back to his father and the witch like two sacks of potatoes.

Malakai's head lolled to the side with a groan as Rurik latched on, the feeling of his power seeping into the other physically draining on top of his emotional exhaustion. And, past that, Rurik had been destined to be a Gula. He wasn't sure which vein of the House he would be, but either way, he was worried for his lover, and his moods.

There was a long while, where Malakai just let his lover feed, just glad to feel him conscious again. Finally, when he heard the sound of movement upstairs, he pried his arm away, eyes meeting his lover's again.

"...Rurik?" Everyone was different, in the change. Some maintained their dispositions, some were upset, some enraged. He had no idea how his lover would react, what he could do to make things easier.

A darkness burned in Rurik's eyes, and in his veins. The spell effectively broken, he thrust his arms at Kai, throwing the man off him. It wasn't anger, but fear that had him scrambling away from Kai. He backed himself to the wall, suspicion glaring at the other in the room, and then the stairs leading up when he heard the door open at the top.

Darkened eyes flickered back to Kai. "Lover?" he breathed out, his voice low and rough, almost foreign to his own ears.

Frozen in place, he gave Rurik his space, not wanting to scare him further. "Yes, lover. It's done. God, I'm sorry. I.." He looked to his feet, a genuine sign of uncertainty meant to put Rurik at ease.

"I love you. Everything will be alright now. You're back, you're safe."

He heard the bodies thudding against the floor upstairs and felt himself swallow instinctively, knowing the sound of a meal when he heard one. Still, his first priority, as always, was Rurik.

Rurik shook his head. He knew what was happening, and his mind reeled with the truth of it. His eyes darted to the ceiling, where the hooks had hung, where he had hung. He had been unwilling to kill Malakai when he'd had the chance, had instead chosen to sacrifice himself to the monster's whims. He had experienced first hand what Kai was capable of, what he would soon be capable of and possibly driven to do.

He shivered, arms moving to rub his arms as Kai's half breed son struggled to bring the two victims down the stair, finally nudging one to let him roll down to the basement floor. Rurik's gaze dropped to the boy. He couldn't have been more than twenty, at best. He shivered again.

Slowly, Kai walked towards his lover, holding his hands out placatingly. "Rurik, lover. Please. I- you had said you wanted.." No, he wanted to be alive, still. He wanted to not have been betrayed by the one he trusted. Kai stopped, letting his hands drop, turning to address Ilya as he came down the stairs.

"Leave us," It was a growl, redirected frustration. A second's pause, and a deep breath later, and he tried again. "Thank you. But I need... a moment with him." His eyes were full of pain and regret, but he couldn't give into that yet. He had to feed Rurik, to get him stable, before he could worry about himself.

Ilya let the second body tumble into the first, allowing him to retreat up the stairs without further comment. He settled against the wall across the room from the stairs, keeping vigil, in case he were needed.

Rurik looked from the fallen bodies to Kai and shook his head. "No. This is wrong, lover. I won't do it." His voice was husky, he likely hadn't spoken for days, while he was held captive.

Kai sighed at Rurik's words, looking to the ground, then back to the bodies, before back to his lover's face.

"It is wrong. And if I had some way to take it all back, I would. But it is done, lover. You have changed. They are dead, that choice was mine, not yours. All you can decide now, is if you wish to go through with things and survive, or waste away and have their death be meaningless." It was obvious his first instinct was to descend on the bodies, but he had to ensure Rurik would eat. Make sure he would endure.

"Don't you put their deaths on me," Rurik responded. He shook his head, and seemed to try to press himself into the wall. He was confused, more than anything. It was entirely possible feeding would help clear his head, but he was reluctant to take that step, and become that monster.

With a sigh, Malakai gathered the first body to him, moving it in front of Rurik and drawing his knife. With a precision that came from an obvious familiarity, he severed the artery in the boy's neck, holding him up by the hair, in front of his lover.

"Please. Be as mad as you like. But you need to eat."

Rurik shook his head, determined he was not going to give in. He'd rather die, than become a monster. And yet, he felt himself moving toward the boy, taking him to his chest, an arm around his waist. The boy moaned softly, and his head lolled to the side, exposing more of his neck, the call of the blood too much for Rurik to resist.

He made a sound in his throat as he bit down, teeth sinking into the boy's flesh, lips latching on to draw the blood to his mouth. It was bitter, not smooth and familiar like the blood Kai offered him. He didn't like it as well, but once he'd started, he couldn't stop, didn't stop until the boy in his arms ceased to breathe,m and the blood turned thick and sickening, and Rurik threw the body to the ground at his feet.

The vampire- other vampire- busied himself with doing his own feeding, taking the other boy to himself and killing him clinically, not thinking about it, knowing better than to think about anything but keeping himself alive.

Once he was done, he set the boy aside, licking and wiping his lips to get rid of the rest of the blood. He stood a small distance away, watching Rurik feed, still unsure of how to best help him.

After discarding the body, Rurik dropped to his knees, over taken by a frenzy, hands tugging at the boy's clothes, hands thrust into pockets, as if looking for something. After a moment, he shoved the body away harshly, and dropped back onto his ass on the cold basement concrete floor, a small brown prescription pill bottle in his hand, the beginning of his personal collection.

His darkened eyes flashed on Kai. For a long moment he simply looked at the other, unable to coordinate his thoughts and his mouth to speak. After a moment, he stood and slipped the bottle into his pocket. He gave a short nod. "Thank you." The words were English, which may or mahy not have greater meaning.

Malakai watched the scene with a clinical air, noting the reaction to the pill bottle, nodding once in recognition of that fact. He was curious to see if Rurik would be able to drag himself down from the edge. Satisfied when he did, Kai didn't even notice the slip back into English, more happy for the sentiment than worried about its delivery.

"I love you." He felt the need to say it again, to reiterate it once more before discussing the reality of what had happened. "Come now, it's nightfall. We should get you home," He purposefully stuck to Russian, to see just what reaction he would receive.

Rurik had no reaction to the Russian. He merely nodded and stepped over the fallen bodies. He vaguely remembered Ilya had been present, and assumed Ilya would take care of the bodies after they'd left. He was fine with that.

"I love you, lover," Rurik murmured as he reached for Kai's hand, giving it a squeeze. He was far calmer, now, than he'd been before the feed.

Kai accepted the hand with a light squeeze, but didn't go for a kiss, or even a hug, unsure if Rurik would be alright with more contact. He led the way over to the stairs and up out of the basement, noting Ilya's presence down the hall, but not addressing him. If he cleaned the basement once they were gone, fine. If not, Malakai would be reutrning the next day while Rurik rested anyway, to try and earn some answers himself.

Ilya hadn't expected to be addressed, and stayed as he was until the pair was gone. He went immediately to work taking care of the bodies. He thought to simply burn the house down, but then there would be an investigation and what not, and he didn't want to draw attention to certain things, so instead he opted to bury the bodies in the back yard.

Rurik felt a warmth in his bones like he'd not felt before, and it staved off the cold when he followed Kai outside into the cool evening air. Shaking his head, he simply followed Kai, silent and reflective, his fingers caressing the pill bottle in his pocket.

The walk back to the house was considerable, and spent in silence, Malakai keeping watch on Rurik out of the corner of his eye as they went. He realized, in that moment, the remorse that he felt, and had to look away, if only to keep himself from questioning it. From asking things he didn't want to know the answer to.

It was almost an hour before they made it to the house, and only the fact that Kai had visited it earlier stopped the sight from shocking him. The place was in shambles, broken glass and knick-knacks strewn everywhere, the spirits living in its walls obviously angered by the scene. Still, he payed the feelings of ill-will no mind, kicking his way through the debris towards the couch.

Rurik was silent during the journey. His mind rolled and reeled, thoughts and memories careening against his consciousness, too fast and too numerous to really get a handle on things. He was confused and scared, perhaps even a little bit angry.

Malakai had given him the choice, to die or to become a living dead, and he'd made that choice after a week of unimaginable pain and betrayal, that he now remembered in minute detail. He had called on his sheer will to keep himself alive, thinking if he were alive for Kai to torture and torment, he might save others from that fate.

He decided then and there he would not subject others to that horror, by his own hand. He resigned himself that he could not control Kai, perhaps he never had, though he had had some measure of influence over him, when he'd been able to offer him his blood. That was no longer an option, and Rurik was no longer certain where he stood with the Invidia.

He felt himself tense as they approached his shop. He remembered the sound of breaking glass, though he knew the damage hadn't been so complete when Kai had dragged him from the old house to the house where he was kept. He sighed, the swoosh of unnecessary air in his lungs an odd, unfamiliar feeling.

Kai heard the sigh, and it was on his tongue to offer to take Rurik somewhere else. He knew, however, that the offer would be irresponsible. He and Rurik needed to work out their differences, on familiar ground, before he trusted the man to a room full of living, breathing humans.

It didn't help his confidence to know just how much stronger, physically and magically, Rurik was now. Stronger than him, definately, and apparently much more erratic with his moods, even now. He simply had to hope he would be able to get his lover's mind back to him, and soon. There was a half-drank bottle of bloodwine open on the table next to the couch, and he drew it to himself to take a drink.

After a long moment, he finally broke the silence. "You need your rest, Rurik. Go, sleep. I will.. clean the mess,"

"You expect me to sleep?" Rurik said with a lilt of annoyance to his voice. How could he possibly sleep, after all that had happened? After all that he'd been through, after all that Kai had done to him. Sleep was the farthest thing from his mind.

"You destroyed my shop, Malakai." He sighed, again with that odd feeling of air in his lungs. He frowned and ran a hand through his hair. "I suppose it doesn't matter. I've no need for it now."

"You have to heal, Rurik. I will fix the shop." He heard the annoyance, the sigh, and didn't even have it in him to get angry in return. It really was deserved.

Taking one last drink of the bloodwine, he set the bottle aside, turning a wary glance on his new fledge.

"I do not know what to tell you, darling. You can do what you want. But I wish you would just take the day to let your body heal." He knew it would take much longer for the man's mind to handle the reality, but at least the physical was just a matter of rest.

"I don't give a damn about the shop," Rurik retorted. He huffed to the stairway and made his way upstairs, feed stomping like led on each step. He was very aware he was acting like a child, and he didn't care. He'd been denied a childhood, in any case. Maybe now was the time to claim it.

He reached the crest of the stair and turned to go into the room he'd claimed as his own when he'd taken possession of the house. So long ago, that seemed now, when he was merely a witch, rather than a vampire with a witch's strength and background.

It was really quite irresponsible of Malakai to turn him, he thought. If he retained his power and strength, he would surely be a force to reckon with, if he chose...

"Malakai!" He hollared, turning back to the stair.

Considering the magnitude of the tantrum he'd thrown after being turned, Rurik's stomping and carrying on didn't affect him.

That was, of course, until he heard the tone of the man from upstairs. From the bedroom. He wasn't sure if that was supposed to be arousal, or rage, but he walked up the stairs either way, knowing whatever came would be deserved.

He stopped just outside the doorway, eyes running over Rurik's posture appraisingly. "What-?"

Rurik slouched in the doorway, a shoulder to the frame. His body ached, but the aches were pleasantly tingling at the moment. Whatever magic had been at work in the bedroom before seemed stronger now, almost tangible, and yet just out of reach.

As Kai reached the top of the stair, Rurik drew his hand up and crooked a finger. The bedroom was where things had started, a week before, Rurik recalled. When the pair had woken up to turmoil and distress. Rurik hadn't figured out what had happened, and he assumed Kai had not found any answers either.

For the moment, he didn't care. Lust and need throbbed at his groin, and nothing else mattered, for the moment. He'd deal with other things when he had his immediate needs taken care of.
