Who: Lulu, Skwiskgaar the Elder, Teja Wartooth, and Teenyver.
What: It's Miniver's birthday!
When: Thursday evening.
Where: The cabin in Stockholm.
Warnings: Cute and sad?

Skwisgaar had told Lulu that it was Miniver's birthday, and she agreed that some sort of celebration, however minute, was called for. So she telephoned Teja - for what kind of queen would she be if there wasn't a knight in attendance? - and invited him to come over around dinnertime. Then she called to order a cake from the town. She didn't want anything too elaborate, but she wanted something. She knew Miniver's sweet tooth.

Once that was delivered, she went to find Skwisgaar, kissing him and settling down next to him. "Where's our young hero?"

"Ams uh," Skwisgaar said to his wife once he kissed back, wrapping an arm around her, looking in all the nearby corners, before pointing to the one which had a young boy in it, "Dere. Readings." He smiled slightly. "So Miniver? We haves heard on a thing abouts it being somebody's births day. Who ever coulds dat be?" He asked with a small hint of a smile. He'd already bought the present he was going to give to the older Miniver, and oddly enough, the younger one could find use for it as well. He had it wrapped in a silvery paper with red ribbon, with a fountain pen slid into the bow of the ribbon to keep it safe.

Miniver glances up from his corner. Hois time here has done him good -- he doesn't cringe anymore whenever someone speaks to him, though he still seems to prefer lurking in hidden places and hiding behind large books.

"I give up," he answers honestly. "Whose?" This has half to do with him not remembering what day it actually is, and half to do with him having no reason to expect anybody to know his birthday in the first place.

Lulu smiled and got comfortable, resting against Skwisgaar. "I believe, Miniver, that it's yours. The knight will be here soon enough, and we'll have a celebratory dinner. You're a joy and a boon to this world. We should celebrate every year that we get with you." She liked it better when she was telling the truth and not fibbing as much. What she'd said, she'd meant.

"Ja, I am also agreeings dat you have mades on a great deal of change in de worlds already, so young, and just staying here with us. Helpings me to reads on a story." He smiled as he heard a knock on the door and he stood, kissing Lulu's forehead before answering.

It was, of course, Teja. Teja had forwent wearing his armor this time around, in favor of something a little less hefty and a little more formal for his tastes. He was wearing an unbuttoned suit jacket over a button down shirt, his hair tied back in a ponytail at the nape of his neck. Under one arm was a gift, wrapped similar to Skwisgaar's - though it was red foil paper and a green ribbon. He was given a pat on the shoulder and there was a stilted, small conversation in a different language before the door was closed and he was inside. Teja caught sight of Miniver and walked slowly over to him, before crouching down. "I hope you don't mind that I'm not in armor today, young knight."

The child's face takes on a faint shade of red. "I don't mind," he whispers to Teja, speaking as if he understands entirely from personal experience. "Armor's really heavy to wear all the time." He glances to Lulu and Skwisgaar. "How did you know today's my birthday?" He's not entirely sure what to make of the rest of their words -- about him changing the world and whatnot.

Lulu smiled and sat up a bit once Teja entered the room, and she nodded to him. She couldn't help but beam at Miniver's reaction to him, and she watched them all with an odd sort of pride.

"As queen, I like to know certain things." She held out her hand, extending it palm up toward Miniver and making a small globe of water form there. "I learned magic, as I told you. My husband knows things. Like the birthdays of those this house finds to be important."

Skwisgaar nodded at that, "But it don't matters how dat we knows on a thing, for it to bes an important sort of thing to knows. It seems dat Teja has broughts you a gift?"

Teja nodded, "I have. You can open it now if you'd like. It was a last minute thing, I only just was told today, so I wondered what a young knight would like on his birthday."

He had actually gotten Miniver a new "sword", which was in fact something like one of his own daggers, though it was blunted down, and far more ornate than he could really make. He also got a small steel shield, light enough for Miniver to carry around without getting far too burdened down.

Skwisgaar wrapped his arms around his wife, kissing her cheek again as he watched the two boys - for in his mind, they both were boys - interact.

By now, he's set his book aside and is sitting cross-legged watching Teja with interest. Despite being mildly bewildered by all this, Miniver is still, after all, a child -- so he takes the gift Teja offers and tears it open with all the delight all children have in tearing paper.

He lifts out the "sword" and shield and inspects them with wide eyes. "Ooh... These ones look just like the ones I lost when I was fighting the harpy. But better. And stronger." He stands up and tries on the shield, pointing the sword at Teja and striking a pose for all of two seconds before lowering both and blushing. "How do they look?"

"Like it's your birthright, as it should." She smiled and leaned more heavily against Skwisgaar, nuzzling her cheek against his chest to remind herself that he was there. If she just kept telling herself that one day, the boy in front of her grew up into the man she'd befriended, she was all right. Skwisgaar's familiar arms reminded her of how things should be.

She smiled a little, looking at Teja. "Did you two wish to practice? Or perhaps you would like to start dinner early?"

Teja laughed and nodded, "Very fearsome, Miniver, very fearsome. You could one day be a King's Guard if you keep up your sword work. I'd like to help him with it if you don't mind, your Majesties." He didn't stop crouching as he was next to Miniver, because he figured his height and bulk was enough to scare any smaller, more skittish child.

Skwisgaar put his hands over Lulu's belly and kissed the top of her head. "Ja, you can goes out and trains with a swords for just a while. Don't wants a dinnersmeal to get cold. Oh! Befores you am going outsides, I haves a thing for Miniver as well." He slipped away from Lulu and picked up his gift, handing it to Miniver. "Nots near as fancy as a shields but dey am says dats de pen is mightiers dan de swords."

Miniver sets the shield and sword down carefully as he takes Skwisgaar's gift and opens it. It is, to his eyes, one of the loveliest things he's ever seen, besides the sword and shield. He squeaks happily as he looks at the pen, and then, setting it on top of the book he was reading, hops up to fling his arms around Skwisgaar's neck and kiss his cheek. He does the same to Lulu, albeit more shyly.

"Thank you," the child says quietly. "Thank you a lot, your majesties. Um, can I go swordfight with Teja now? We'll be back soon..." He has his sword and shield gathered up again quickly and edges towards Teja. He wants to try the pen, too, but some things take priority -- like daylight in winter.

Lulu smiled at Miniver's tiny noise, and even more at the way he hugged Skwisgaar without restraint. There was a lot of love between the two of them, regardless of age, and it warmed her heart to see. When he kissed her, she smiled and briefly patted his back, not wanting to make him uncomfortable.

"Go practice, my darling. Dinner will be waiting for you when you two are ready." She beamed and blew Miniver a kiss before thanking Teja with a smile. Turning to Skwisgaar, she rest her head on his shoulder, feeling somehow tired.

Skwisgaar grinned at the kiss and hugged the young boy back. "Am glads you are liking on it. I haves a good idea for it when you guys comes back insides and after we eats a dinnersmeal." He made sure Miniver had on his coat before sending the boys outside to play.

Teja helped Miniver with form, offering him gentle guidance in holding the sword in several different stances, showing him the three most common, and how to use the sword's weight in his favor. "Never thrust a sword," he instructed as he picked up another sword he'd left outside by the door, one that was his and he hadn't yet tempered to have an edge, "like this," thrusting the sword out from his body. "It leaves you open for attack. Instead, if you're going to thrust, you thrust from your hip, like this." He showed the proper way and grinned. "It will give you a stronger blow, and not leave you as open."

The child does not especially excell at Teja's lessons, but he does try, and what he lacks in physical coordination, he makes up for in spirit. He might even get a few genuinely decent moves in before the sky begins to darken and Miniver's face begins to show how tired he is. It won't be very long -- he's too small and too weak to keep this up for long, especially in the cold.

Nevertheless, cold and tired, he does look much happier than he has been in the past few days. Finally, he slings the shield off so he can take Teja's hand and nuzzle his wrist lightly.

"Let's go inside. Before the wolves come."

Lulu had sat with Skwisgaar for a moment before getting up to make sure the table was set for dinner. She hadn't really known what Miniver liked, so she'd asked Skwisgaar for ideas before ordering from a restaurant in town. They'd brought the food up a short time prior, and she simply heated it up again before setting it on the table.

She sat back down next to Skwisgaar once things were ready, shivering and slightly cold.

Skwisgaar held Lulu close, and wrapped a small blanket over her shoulders when she seemed too cold. "Dat little boy am goings to grows up to be de worst enemies and best friends I ever haves hads." His tone was fond, and he rested his head against the top of hers as he watched the boys outside in the snow.

When Miniver took Teja's hand and asked to go in, Teja nodded, "Of course. You did very well, Miniver! You are a very spirited young boy, indeed. I can tell that you are very brave." He helped take in the gifts and led Miniver inside, "Go wash up for dinner, I'm sure they've got something delicious waiting for you." He sat down with Skwisgaar and Lulu once Miniver was out of sight, "I'm glad you asked me over. I was thinking about him today, hoping he was getting along a bit better."
