Who: Henry and Erica
What: Reunion and Talking
When: Tonight
Where: Their house
Rating: PG-13 at worst.

And he had no idea what to think. He was finding that he wanted to welcome Erica and gather her in to him in big hugs, but he also did not want to weird her out. He was far younger than he should be for her.

He felt weirded out and a little worried by his wonderful lady's disappearance and he wished Anya was here, but he had faith she would return. For now, he was cooking and hoping that Erica liked how he cooked. And what he cooked, for there was a lot of it.

"How old are you? What do you do for fun?"

He smiled at her.

"And did you get the Talk from one of us already?"

"I'm sixteen. And yeah, I've definitely had the Talk. We can skip that one. Um. I like rock climbing. And I like.. I don't know. I go to the mall with my friends. I don't know. Normal stuff. We go on drives sometimes. Me and you. I like those."

She was nearly finished with her food.

He smiled, and laughed, listening in joy. She was an interesting child.

"Perhaps sometime this week we can do so, if you like."

"That'd be good," she said with a smile. The scenery would probably be a lot different now. She'd like to see it with her dad.

"What else? Hm. Oh hey, did I tell you about my powers yet?"

"Good."

He bounced.

He shook his head.

"I have been studiously resisting the urge to pry. I was rather hoping you might specify."

She smiled. "You can pry about whatever you want, Dad. Told you. No secrets." At least, she kept that the best she could.

"I can do stuff with wireless signals." Much less eloquent than her teachers explained it, but her teachers weren't trying to finish quesedillas. Besides, her version made just as much sense as theirs, maybe more. "That's why I got a headache earlier. Stuff is a lot different now. Not as much encryption and just.. Less organized, I guess."

He cocked his head, pondering.

"Intriguing, I assume you have learned to defocus the signals? Would a signal blocker help you adapt?"

"Yeah, I've been doing this for a couple years now. I know how to control it, mostly. You made me one of those back when it started, but I don't need to wear it anymore." She smiled, putting down her fork on the now-empty plate. "Headache's gone. It just threw me for a loop at first."

He nodded.

"Okay."

He rose and took the plates to the sink, quickly washing them.

"If you will join me briefly in my lab, to shut it down, we can go on that ride?"

Erica followed her dad to the sink, helping dry the plates. There weren't many dishes between the two of them, but she pitched in.

"Sure," she said with a smile. "Usually we go when it's lighter outside, but we can go. Whatever." She shrugged and smiled. She didn't mind what they did as long as she was with her dad.

He smiled at her as they finished, nervous, proud, happy.

"Good."

He smiled at her and led the way to the lab, where he turned everything to night status, and collected his keys. Then he led the way to the garage, and headed for a car covered by a shroud.

"I had intended to scrap this, but, perhaps tonight is a good night to run with it."

He pulled the shroud and revealed what looked like a cherry colored 67 Chevy in mint condition.

"Hop in."

He settled into the driver's seat, and punched several buttons on the dashboard, which, around the driver's side, had been extensively modified. The car started up utterly silently.

Erica's jaw dropped when he uncovered the car. "Dad!" She walked around to the passenger side, opening the door. "You can not scrap this car!" She climbed in, running her hand over the interior. "You can give it to me! This thing is shway!"

He was probably planning something even more technologically advanced, maybe something that the Chevy's chassis couldn't hold.. But she wasn't sure her dad understood how cool this car was. Sometimes parents weren't good at that.
