What: Lucas is snooping
Where: Cuddy's hospital in London
When: Thursday afternoon
Rating: PG-13

Oookay. Bored was something Lucas often became during days when he had nothing to do but one would think, in an alternate universe, life would have been a bit less boring. Yet it wasn't and he found himself working dead ends; lots of dead ends, getting paid only the minimum and finding he had absolutely no friends. At all. So what was Lucas Douglas to do when he was lonely and bored? Stalk his favorite Dean of Medicine.

Well, maybe not 'stalk' but 'follow', at least. Stalking could be considered a crime, following not so much. So dressed in relatively casual clothes he walked into her London hospital. London was an interesting place and he found he greatly enjoyed the accents. Asking for Cuddy's office the nurse gave him a strange look, told him she wasn't in and yet pointed the way to her office. Thanking her he slipped on over and dropped onto a chair near the door, picking up a newspaper. He opened it and used it to hide his face, only barely peeking over it at the door.

Cuddy had done a couple of rounds at her hospital, normal routine kind of things and was thinking about lunch to be honest. And she wasn't expecting to see anyone. But then again she rarely expected to see anyone who wanted to see her, just patients. And it was thankfully a rather slow day all things considered.

She'd been in her office for a good twenty minutes now and finally she decided to give up and go eat. She grabbed her purse and opened the door only to find someone sitting there. What the? "Did I have an appointment I wasn't aware of?" she wasn't quite sure who it was.

He pulled down the paper, looking over Cuddy. How could she not remember him? This really sucked because she was gorgeous and had shown a little interest in him before. Now however they were starting all over again and he just smiled a little bit, trying to figure out how to lie without really lying because he was terrible at telling flat out lies.

"No?" He offered, glancing around before back at Cuddy. "Maybe. Are you taking appointments."

She recognized him but only because he had talked to her that one time and told her that he knew her. That part she didn't remember at all, but at least she wasn't completely clueless. Her eyebrows raised at his response though, "Um, I don't know you'd have to check with my assistant," she said crossing her arms in front of her.

"What can I do for you?"

"I have to check with your assistant but you're willing to help me? That is a bit contradicting." Oh just shut your mouth, Lucas, he thought to himself; cringing. "I'm, uh, Lucas Douglas, PI." He stood and set the newspaper aside.

"We talked a little...while ago."

"I just asked what I can do for you, I didn't say I was helping you," she said with her eyebrows lifted a bit. She nodded her head, "Yes I remember Mr. Douglas. You knew me from the other universe. That still doesn't answer my question."

She wasn't being overly pushy, though maybe it seemed like it. After all she was kind of intimidating.

Lucas liked intimidating. A lot. So when she looked at him like that all he could do was smile a bit more sheepishly and shrug his shoulders.

"I was just hoping to talk with you. Maybe go out to coffee? Or drinks?"

Oh. Coffee. Or drinks. Right. She remembered that about him sort of, or at least he'd kind of flirted with her before. "Well I was just about to go get lunch.."

What was she doing? Before she knew or could think herself out of it, she nodded her head. "If you want to come with me, sure.. I was going to go to the cafeteria but if you'd rather someplace with real food that's fine."

"Cafeteria is fine." He didn't want to seem like a creepy stalked more than he already did, after all. The cafeteria was a safe, public place to go and chat with the woman he'd not been able to get close to for a while now. "And the food is on me."

Well she wasn't going to argue with that. "All right, come on then." She gestured with her shoulder towards the outer office door and headed out, figuring that he was going to follow her to the elevators. "Did you want to talk t me about something specific? Or was it just a ... chit chat?"

"Chit chat. Unless there is something specific you wanted to talk about." Lucas was always up for pleasing the person he was having a conversation with. Following after Cuddy he allowed her to lead him to the cafeteria.

Her shoulders shrugged and then she shook her head. "No, you came to me, remember?" she hit the button on the elevator and took it down to the cafeteria. Well at least House wasn't there, that was good, he wouldn't come over and mock. She did wave hello to Cameron though. And then she got in line and grabbed a tray. "I don't know what there is to talk about, unless you've got a clue."

"Well how about we start with how you are?" Lucas offered as he picked up a tray, picking out this and that for his lunch. He wasn't really all that hungry but he'd munch on a few things anyway. Talking with Cuddy was bound to be a bit nerve wracking and he'd need a distraction. "I mean, we've only talked once, a while ago, and went out to coffee and then...nothing. I guess I sort of dropped off but. Well."

Way to box yourself into a corner.

"Anyway. How are you?"

However she was hungry, so she started piling food on, still glad that House wasn't there to take it all and eat it himself. "Uh huh. Right. I'm okay I guess?" her shoulders shrugged some. "I mean I'm fine, there's not much to tell around here sadly. Nothing life shattering has happened." Though she was jinxing herself as she spoke.

"How are you?"

"Well, hey. Its good nothing life shattering happened. Life shattering things, in my experience, aren't good." Especially since he'd been the bringer of such things at times.

"Oh, I'm fine." Once they were done getting food he headed over and paid for it, before moving to a table. "Sort of bored. Though I'm sure you probably already gleaned that." Since he was following her around.

"That's true, I like it when nothing happens. I've had it happen a lot. Like did you know that not this hospital, but my other one, in New York. It's been destroyed and rebuilt about three times. That's life shattering," mostly life shattering anyway.

She moved with him to a table and sat down, "I did notice. How long have you been following me exactly?"

"Oh man, really? What happened to do? That has got to suck." He shook his head and then froze when it was asked how long he'd been following her. "Not...following too long. It isn't hard to find you, after all, since you are going to be in one hospital or the other. I checked in New York, they said you were here. So I came here and I found you and now here we are."

Hey, at least he was honest!

"The first time it was an apocalypse, zombies.. Silent Hill sort of thing. Actually no, it was.. Silent Hill in there. And then the second time there were more superheroes.." she explained, "Lots of people decide that it's okay to ransack my hotel and not anymore. I'm.. not the woman you probably know. I mean I am just.. I've learned how to kill someone. That changes a person. But I understand. And if I was at home? Would you have followed me there? I have kids. Kids who could kill you by looking at you actually."

"I would have...followed you there too. I did, actually. Then you let me take you out once." He shrugged a bit, feeling a little threatened by the mention of her kids. "Do you not want me here? I'm not...I can leave. If you want." Really he'd not even picked at his food yet.

"No.. it's okay, you don't have to go. I'm just saying that .. you should be careful. Their father .. is.. was Superman," she looked incredibly serious. "They got mostly his genes. And they're overprotective. But I'm fine and I can handle myself." she smiled and started to eat her food.

"Superman." Of course Lucas just figured she was fucking with him so he just picked at his food a bit. "You are happy here though, right?" He asked awkwardly after a minute.

Her head nodded, "Yeah I was married to Clark Kent." At his question she shrugged her shoulders. "I'm glad I have my kids. And my job. But happy? I don't.. no not really." at least she could be honest too.

"Man, just when I thought this place couldn't get any weirder." He shook his head a little bit but sobered up when she admitted she wasn't happy. Now that was concerning! "Why aren't you happy here? You've got a couple hospitals, kids, a life..."

"Because I'm a single mom which wouldn't be bad and I didn't mind when.. I didn't have a husband who left. And then every man just up and leaves or whatever. And then.. House is .. House, you know usual stuff," her shoulders shrugged. "I shouldn't be but I am, so I guess that makes me.. a bad person or whatever."

"Hey, everyone deserves to choose if they want to be happy or unhappy." He shook his head. "Though I don't understand why men keep leaving you." Lucas smiled a little bit at her. "You are smart and pretty. I don't think it gets much better than that."

Her cheeks blushed, she couldn't help herself and picked at her food a bit more. "I don't know either. Though the husband just vanished like people do around here. It's not really safe to get attached to be honest."
