Who: Ennis and Jack, and a surprise or two
What: Fooling around on the ranch
When: Today
Where: The...ranch?
Warnings: Cowboys on the ranch? None, really.

Ennis and Jack had seen the animals out to pasture and headed back for some down time at the ranch. Down time turned in to horse play, with the horses out enjoying the early afternoon grazing. Ennis had his flannel shirt off, wearing only a white wife beater and his jeans. His hair was a mess, from his hat and from a flurry of activity, running around with Jack. His hat hung on one of the fence posts, along with his flannel.

It was taking everything in Jack not to run, to fall to his knees, to cry or... something. Anything to make this right. But it wasn't, and he wasn't entirely sure she wasn't right.

"I never died, miss. Fell 'sleep back in '83, woke up here. I ain't dead, miss. I ain't.." He finally gave in to the urge to fall to the ground, putting his hands to his face, holding back the naseua.

"You go on!" Ennis' eyes flashed. "Y'go on in th' house. Th'baby don't need t'see this here!" Surely Junior had been too young to remember the Fourth of July fireworks show when Ennis had beat down to big mouthed bikers, for being inappropriate around his babies. Even in shock, he put the interest of the child before himself. "Go'n now!"

Andrew's face was burrowed in his mother's chest and he made a sound at the way his grandfather was yelling at his mother. He clutched her close and she rubbed his back, Junior's eyes flashing similarly at her father. "Don't you be talkin' t'me like tha'. You can't jus' scream at me the way you an' Mama used to." Standing with Andrew wrapped in her arms she hurried away from them into the house, anything to get away from them. Especially when Ennis was in a rage like that. She'd never forget the night she and Jenny had heard their mother screaming for him to leave and how he went off into the snow without so much as saying goodbye.

Jack lifted his head and watched the pair of them walk into the house, settling into something akin to numbness. His breath calmed almost as soon as she was gone, as Jack turned to Ennis, for once actually scared of how the man was going to react. He looked like he did that last day on Brokeback, threatening him about his time in Mexico. Like he might actually hurt Jack, just to hurt something

He knew better than to try and get away from it, though; he wasn't feeling strong enough to get away, and thought maybe he needed the affirmation he was alive, even if that was sure to be painful.

As soon as the door banged shut, Ennis erupted with a primitive growl. He was on his feet, charging forward. The forgotten horse reared up and took off at a gallop. Ennis rammed himself at Jack, straddling him, holding him down. Both fists pummeled the ground, barely missing Jack's face, though he wasn't intending to hit Jack.

Tears of frustration and helpless anger burned his cheeks. "Not dead. Y're not dead!" His voice broke and cracked, heaved with sobs as he tried to catch his breath.

Jack stayed still, ready to take what Ennis dealt out, let him feel for himself that he wasn't dead. They were both there, together, and..

The punches landing drew him out of his thoughts, genuinely shocked as neither fist collided with his body. He let Ennis wear himself down before wrapping his arms around the other man and pulling him down to the ground, clinging to him as if for life, ironic as that was.

One hand slid up into the hair at the back of the man's neck, yanking on it to tilt his head enough to crash his lips against the man's in a kiss.

That earned Jack a good right hook to the side of his jaw, as Ennis moved against him, still fighting. He sagged then, the blow delivered, and fell into Jack, crying.

He shook the punch off, not even having it in him to get mad, or strike back. He just settled in to hold Ennis as he cried. After a long minute, he found tears running down his own face, before giving in to a choked sob of his own.

Ennis allowed himself to cry for a moment, before a shudder made his entire body spasm and he pushed away from Jack. He made a grab for his hat,a nd scrambled to his feet.

"Got t'bring th'animals in."

If it was even possible, the shove away hurt more than the punch had, and Jack had to sit and process the reaction for a second before deciding on his course of action.

Jack launched himself bodily at Ennis' knees, knocking him back to the ground, wrestling him down as best he could. "Fuck 'em, Ennis. Just... jus' fuck 'em." There was a meaning there, past the herd, Ennis had to have picked up on.

That was either the absolute worst thing Jack could have done, or the only thing he cold have done. Ennis growled, his eyes wide, his fists at the ready. Arms and legs shot out, seeking contact anywhere he could land. He grunted with the effort, his breath ragged and uneven, his body driven by madness he couldn't name, or even pretend to tame. Jack had let it loose and Ennis wouldn't stop, couldn't stop, until he got it out of his system.

There was the fury Jack had been expecting, and he didn't bother trying to fight back, simply catching as many punches as he could, trying to lessen the damage. He was still crying, shouting futilely at Ennis, trying to snap him out of it.

By the time Ennis rolled away from Jack, breathing hard, Jack must have felt like every bone in his body was broken. Ennis' fists ached, from the beating he'd given himself, and the blows he'd pummeled on Jack. He grunted, and rolled onto his side, puking in the dirt.

Jack was curled in on himself, panting hard, by the time Ennis pulled back. Somehow, he managed to keep conscious, even if he desperately wanted to pass out, to stop the pain.

Still, if there was ever a reaffirmation he was alive, it would be the intense pain he was feeling. And it was better Ennis took it out on him, than on himself. It was him damn fault, after all.

Jack didn't approach Ennis, or even move, afraid that wouldn't be the end, if he did. He just lie still, essentially playing dead until things were calm again; if they ever would be.

Ennis got to his feet. he looked down at Jack, and wiped his hand at the back of his mouth. His eyes were glazed. he wasn't himself. He whuffled an intake of breath and turned on his heels, retreating into the barn.

Managing to prop himself up on an arm, Jack watched Ennis go, unsure of what to do. Going back in the house meant facing Ennis' daughter and... their grandson- but he could find something for the pain. Going to the barn, he was likely to get assaulted again, with Ennis like this; but he was too concerned for Ennis not to go after him.

Carefully, he stood. Deeming himself able to take another punch (or five), he slowly, painfully made his way towards the barn, glancing around and waiting for the inevitable barrage.

Jack barely got both feet inside the doors, well out of sight from the house, and Ennis was on him, backing him to the wall, breath ragged, eyes wild, hair sticking out in all directions. With a grunt, he forced the buckle loose from Jack's jeans, hands scrambling impatiently to tug the denim down.

He was hard as rock inside his own pants, his erection throbbing, aching painfully, pressed against the restricting material of his too-tight jeans. He growled, hands roughly forcing Jack to turn around, then fumbling impatiently at his own buckle, button, and zipper.

Jack's expectation of the assault was the only thing that kept him from crying out, the pain at Ennis grabbing him enough to make his vision blur. Still, he didn't fight it, letting his lover take him how he needed. He was too injured to have much input in what was happening, but he knew it needed to happen. For both of them.

Pressing his face into the wood, he closed his eyes and focused on the feeling, biding his time until Ennis exhausted whatever it was had taken over him.

Ennis pounded hard and fast, desperate and primitive. He grunted with each sharp thrust of his hips. His hands pressed tot he wall by Jack's head, fingers digging into the grain, stripping away bits of the wood and imbedding splinters in his fingers.

He cried out, a rare vocalisation, as he climaxed, his seed burning hot through him and into Jack. He gave a final rutting thrust, pressing Jack against the wall, and holding him there, as if afraid to move.

Jack found no pleasure in the act- only pain, and a sense of submission, of possession. But he knew that was the point, and didn't bemoan it ending and leaving him half hard. He was simply glad the moment seemed to be dying down.

He didn't didn't move, didn't speak for the longest time. The only sound was the panting of his breath, accompanied by small, pained noises as his bruised form protested the pressure of Ennis' body against his.

"Y'best get inside." Ennis slipped away from Jack, hands moving to hike his pants up. The buckle had been broken, and he yanked the belt free of his jeans, tossing it to the side. He stepped into Maverick's stall, gently stroking the horse's neck.

Finally gathering himself enough to assess the damage, Jack just wiped the blood off his mouth from where he'd bit his own lip in frustration, turning to press his back to the wall and sliding down to sit. He was cold, he was sore, and he knew leaving would've been the smarter option, but he wasn't sure his legs would hold him. He was a damn mess.

Ennis said nothing more, but mounted Maverick and nudged the horse out of the stall and out of the barn, leaving Jack sitting there.
