Sookie Stackhouse is a freakin' fairy ([info]dangerwhore) wrote in [info]utr_logs,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:presto (dungeons and dragons), sookie stackhouse

Who: Sookie and Presto
What: Comfort, food, and likely no small amount of cynicism
When/Where: Backdated to last night, Sookie's house in Southern Louisiana
Warnings: Cuteness? I'm not sure.

Sookie was currently curled up in a ball on her couch, bag of M&Ms in hand, staring through the television which was currently playing some old movie she didn't even know. She hadn't moved for most of the day, her clothes didn't match, her hair was unwashed- it was the definition of 'wallowing', but she couldn't help it. First her grandma, before coming to this place, and now her best friend. It was... almost too much.

But Presto was coming over. And he offered to bring her food. Suddenly realizing she looked like Hell, she sat up, running a hand through her hair to try and pull it back, at least. It wasn't like she thought he expected much, but it was human decency, to not want to look like death warmed over.

And at least she'd be up, when the doorbell rang.

Presto got there as soon as he could, appearing outside her house, a bag of things like soup and sweets in his arms.

He stepped up, hesitated, then knocked.

He only hoped he could make a difference, make her feel better, and do something, anything. He knew what being alone felt like, what being without those you cared about felt like, and he hated that this new friend felt like that.

He just wanted to make her smile again.

The shifting of the deadbolt was the only sign of Sookie's appearance at the other side of the door, too hoarse from crying to really want to shout through it. She was a mess, rumpled hair pulled back in a messy ponytail, a blanket wrapped around her shoulders from where she'd been sulking on the couch earlier.

Sookie tried for a smile, as she stepped back to let Presto in, but it didn't even feel convincing to her. "Hey," Was all she had to offer for greeting, and even that sounded stressed.

Presto took one look and did the only thing he could, and enfolded her in a hug. He hugged her close, as long as she would allow.

"I am sorry, my dear friend."

It took Sookie everything she had not to start bawling against when he hugged her, and still she didn't contain a scoff, that made way for little sobs.

She immediately hated herself for it; he didn't sign up to have a girl cry on his shoulder. He was offering company. But she couldn't stop, not when right then, he was the only thing she really had to hold on to.

He rubbed her back gently.

"Let it out, Sookie. You're with a friend now. You can let go and let it out."

He just held her and kept talking quietly, and hopefully, he thought, reassuringly.

She just cried for a minute, having held it in while trying to make herself presentable, needing the release of stress. Once she felt like she could breathe without breaking down again, she stepped back just enough to let him fully inside the house. She didn't want to make him stand at her threshold all night.

"I- sorry. C'min."

He smiled softly and stepped in fully, letting the door close.

"Nothing to be sorry about, Sookie. What else are friends for, other than to be there for each other?"

He nodded.

"We should make tea, and settle wherever you are most comfortable."

He blushed then.

"If you like."

Sookie was too wrapped up in things to notice the blush, although she caught a slightly embarassed train of thought in his head. "Yeah, I can... put the tea on. M'fine in the front room. Sorry 'bout the mess,"

She reached otu to take the bag, and started to shuffle off to the kitchen.

He smiled and followed her.

"I brought tea, and a present... I hope it's okay."

He eyed her, and sighed.

"I am sorry for your loss,. Sookie."

The bag went on the counter- she wasn't going to be rude and snoop into it right then. She moved to the sink to pull out the kettle that had been soaking, giving it one last rinse to get the rest of the suds out, before filling it and setting it on the stove. Turning to Presto, she actually found a small smile, for his sincerity.

"You're sweet, chere. I... I know, they say, she's just. Back home. S'not like she..." Sookie waved a hand, not able to say the word.

He pulled out tea from the top of the bag; lemon and pepermint varieties.

He next pulled out a large sweater of red wool.

"I got this from a friend back in the Realms, and it reminds me that life can be good sometimes, even when I am sad. When you wear it, it helps remember the good times, memories becomes very clear."

Presto's explanation of the sweater made her face soften, not quite a smile but close. She reached out a hand to run over the material, finding it softer than it looked, and might have imagined it a little warm, like the hug of an old friend. She sighed at his words, nodding a little.

"'Know m'not the only one who's lost somebody. But she's- Tara's th'only person from home who really believed in me, y'know? Didn't think I was weird, cause'a my..." Handmotion, suggestive of her power. "I know it's diff'rent here, but it's still..." She shook her head. "Sorry, I needta stop."

She nodded to her and put the sweater on the counter.

"I'm sorry. I know it is not the same, but I believe in you."

He sighed.

"Stop what?"

His blush went purple.

"I just... you deserve it. Nobody should be alone."

He looked down.

"I know what alone is like, and it sucks."

"Well, it's a damn good thing we're not alone now, then, isn't it?" Despite her own melancholy, she hated seeing others in the same position, and could put aside her worry over herself for a minute, to dote on him.

He smiled at her.

"I am, I admit, rather glad of that fact right now."

He peeked up at her, biting his lip, grinning a little.

The look on his face was really too cute, and she giggled softly as she pressed up again to kiss him; the corner of his mouth this time, if only to avoid his teeth.

"You're adorable, d'you know that?"

He blushed again and laughed, and kissed her back, square on the lips, a quick, flashing press of lips, then ducked his head again.

"I'm just me, Sookie, but I'm glad you think so."

With a light sigh, Sookie reached over with a hand to pull his chin back up to face her, giving him a lingering, but still chaste, kiss.

"And you are a wonderful person. Not everybody'd come running for a girl they just met, y'know,"

He blushed and shivered at the kiss, eyes darkening, and nodded.

"Maybe so, but you're a friend, and a special person, and I've fought demons for strangers. I reckon I'd walk through Hell for a person I really cared about."

His gaze was open and on her, and he was plainly speaking of her.

She gave him a warm smile, looking down at her lap, obviously a little surprised at his words. Still, it was a pleasant thing, and when she looked back to his face, her eyes were a bit darker as well, if a little wet.

Looking like she was about to say something, she decided not to trust her voice, simply scooting to lie against him again, head resting against his. Holly had just started to play 'Moon River', and Sookie hummed along, finding herself in much better spirits.

He smiled and gently hugged her close, turning to watch the movie with a wondering smile on his face, and a lift to his heart.

This was fantastic!

They watched the movie in relative silence, only broken by Sookie laughing or sighing at the appropriately girly moments. Sometime in the course of the hour, she moved to lie down, using Presto's leg as a pillow. It was obvious she was more comfortable, which was good. The downside to that, though, was her emotional exhaustion getting the better of her, leaving Sookie asleep as the credits rolled.

His eyes went a little wide at how she laid and her her head was, but he smiled softly down at her, and shifted so she could be comfortable. He was glad she was relaxed and he gently stroked her hair at times.

She was asleep as the movie ended and he was content to let her, watching her with a fond smile on his face. As long as she did not turn the wrong way in sleeping or waking, she would never know how much she turned him on, which, well, right now, she did not need to know. And he almost felt guilty about.

So he breathed, and watched her, and smiled, and let her sleep, slowly relaxing himself, until he thought he might fall asleep right there.

Some time later, Sookie woke with the light gasp of someone ending a dream, turning to glance up at Presto with a bleary smile.

"M'sorry. You coulda woke me, don't need to..." She let her words trail off as she levered herself to sit up, unsure of just how long she'd been on Sam's leg and knowing how painfull that kind of pins-and-needles were.

"What time's it?"
