Who: Malakai and Oz
What: Meetings, discussion, scoping out sites for cages. Seriously.
When/Where: This evening, Oz's apartment in NYC
Warnings: S for Snark? None, I assume.

True to his word, Malakai was able to make it to the city within the half hour, the portkey dropping him a couple blocks from where Oz had said do meet. Having come from the dead of night, in London, he found himself having to dig out his sunglasses to protect his eyes from the dusk.

Hands firmly fisted in his pockets, he managed to keep his resolve against attacking anyone, even as the hustle and bustle of people moving around him began to wear on his nerves. The few stops he had to make to contain himself did put him slightly past the 30 minute mark, but not obnoxiously so, as he made quick work of the stairs in the building, to land at Oz's door.

He knocked, leaning against the door jamb to wait patiently; it was equal parts good manners, and an inability to enter the apartment without permission.

"You're young. There's no shame in that," Malakai had started to pull out his smokes, out of habit as well as to give his hands something to do. He lit the cigarette and took a puff, watching Oz with a well-disguised anticipation.

He'd only seen the transformation a few times in his life, and never on a wolf so young. He couldn't really say he knew what was about to happen.

He shut his eyes to keep himself from fixating too much on the moon when it did come into view. The sun dipped below the horizon, and he sat with his head down and his fingers toying with the charm around his neck.

He could feel the pull of the moon even before it started rising over the horizon. He tried to meditate and be calm, focus on the purely present moment. The sky would be darkening about now, and the stars beginning to come out. He could smell the stench of a hundred different chemicals in Malakai's cigarette smoke, as well as that pungent, slightly bitter scent laced with death that his body gave off. The house itself had a gentle scent of decay and the animals that had passed through it.

His senses ramped up another notch as the moon pulled harder. He squeezed his eyes shut a little tighter. There was a family of squirrels rustling in the basement, an owl winging its way past somewhere overhead.

He could feel the charm beneath his fingers warming slightly as he rolled it between his fingers. It sent waves of soothing energy from the tips of his fingers into his chest, cold tendrils that wrapped around and quieted the pacing wolf that wanted more and more to be out. H tried to focus on that, the soothing sensation, and not the pacing.

Malakai sat deathly perfectly still, as he watched Oz seem to resist the change. It didn't seem pained, but focused- one of Bill's products, no doubt. He knew better than to interrupt such magics at work, and would stay just as he was, cigarette ashing in his hand, until Oz made a move one way or the other.

The wolf kept circling about, searching for a chink in his armor. It was hard not to think about, to worry about. And when he started to worry was when he started to unravel.

He lasted a good ten minutes while the moon slowly cleared the horizon, longer than he'd ever stayed human during the moon. As soon as he thought about this, he wondered how long it could last, began noticing how strongly the wolf was pushing. The soothing pulse of the charm started to fade, and suddenly his focus wasn't enough. Shit.

He felt the claws beneath his skin first, and as they began sliding out he knew he'd lost this one. It took longer than usual--like because of the suppressants. His pupils widened to cover his irises, making his eyes completely black. He just managed to get the charm over his head when the change took over completely and his conscious mind slipped under.

Bones shifted and popped under his skin as heavier, sharper teeth pressed into his tongue. He tore his clothes off mindlessly, partially shredding them in the process. A few seconds later and he was all wolf, facing down Malakai with a dangerous look. Assessing. Prey, predator, or something better left alone?

Having lived as something akin to an animal for much of his existence, Malakai was skilled at expressing himself nonverbally, back straightening, eyes staring down the wolf as he took a very deliberate pull from his cigarette. No move forward kept him from being seen as a threat, but he wasn't going to back down and run. Humans were stupid, in that regard.

He could tell by the absent look on Oz's face there was no trace of human left, but he didn't let that worry him; the one thing mortals did get right, was that animals sensed that sort of weakness. Instead, he just stared and smoked, waiting for the wolf to reach its conclusion.

Malakai smelled off to the wolf, a bit like rot and not at all appetizing. Nor was he backing down or making any sort of threatening movements. So after another moment or two it began moving away, pacing off toward the rear of the house, investigating its surroundings.

It couldn't smell anything human or warm blooded anywhere nearby, and decided to see if it could find something further away. It leapt out the window and into the field, running out as far as it could. There had to be something, somewhere.

Before the wolf would have the chance to make it to the next inhabited farmhouse, a rock would be launched in its direction, a breathy sort of shout following after it. If the wolf stopped, it would find another rock flying at it (from a reasonably safe distance) as a reward, Malakai's attempt to keep the danger directed at him.

The wolf rounded on Malakai, growling its discontent, only to be smacked by the rock. He'd just elevated himself to the level of threat...or annoyance, more, but the wolf was now determined to see him dead, even if he did smell strange. It gave chase with every intention of tearing him apart when it got close enough.

Malakai was able to keep away from the wolf- he was faster than the average human, and rested enough to keep at it as long as he had to. Still, he didn't want to get too far ahead and have the wolf give up.

Unfortunately for him, he'd miscalculated just how annoyed the animal would be from the rock, and a stumble had him well within range of the snarling beast. He cursed as he pulled himself back to his feet, trying to avoid the confrontation.

The wolf gave chase with boundless energy and inhuman speed. It lashed out, attempting to get at his legs, get him to the ground so that it could get down to the business of tearing open the soft, vulnerable parts of his body. The stumble was enough to get him just within reach,

Kai's leg was caught by the wolf, and he cursed as he felt the skin tear when he was pulled down. His free leg swung around to try and knock the wolf off, although it took a few lashes to get himself free. Thankfully, he'd suffered worse, and was on his feet and off towards the house again in seconds, barely slower for the wound in his leg.

It took the wolf a moment or two to recover from being knocked away, then it turned and swung its momentum around, following after Kai as he headed back toward the house. The wolf could smell his strange blood in the air and chased the maddening, off scent.
