Who: Ganieda and Merlin
What: a typical workday. or not?
Where: the New York HQ of LEGO, Inc.
When: Monday
Warnings: not expecting any

Ganieda had gotten much, much better at answering phones. Once she had found out what all the buttons did, anyway. (Her first two weeks at the company were marked by many, many mis-transferred calls.)

Now she had learned, much better, to do reports, and make copies, take calls and messages and to do these things quickly. Ganieda thought that it was especially skilled of her to do these things in heels, and without magic. Most of the time, anyway.

At least the hearts on the margins of her notebooks stayed in the margins and there were many fewer hearts on the messages she took for her brother.

She is, after all, still in love.

Ganieda did as she was asked and smiled up at her brother like a much younger girl. She was, after all, truly only sixteen.

She closed her eyes when he chanted the spell and it still amazed her how smoothly he could transport him.

"So...where to now?"

He nodded down the street as he stepped out.

"That way, about a block. It is a new place, run by a strange being, and promises interesting smells."

"Lovely," she said, taking his arm. "You know of the best places, brother mine."

She smiled up to him. "I have never been so happy in my life."

And this was still true. She was safe and well-loved and felt capable. It was a very good feeling.

He smiled softly at her, and nodded.

"As well you should be. You are a good woman, deserving of good things. And I am glad you are getting them."

"Thanks to you," she said softly. "If you had not come to my aid, and so quickly, I shudder to think what my life would have become."

She leaned her head on his arm as they walked.

He hugged her close.

"You are my sister, and you deserve all the joys of life. I will always watch over you, dear one."

"I am glad of that."

Though she did not intend to get into any more trouble.

He smiled at her.

"Worry not."

Around the corner and down a little, the store door opened with a jingle and as they came in sight of it, a small dog came yipping out.

Merlin laughed and poked it gently. He spoke to it in it's limited tongue.

"Hello, little one."

"Oh! Oh! Hi! Hi! Welcome! Welcome! Gooood Fooods here!"

The dog ran off again.

Merlin shook his head.

"Some animals are very excitable."

He led the way to the door and held it for Ganieda.

Ganieda laughed. Dogs were funny, especially those small ones.

"Yes, I suppose so. And talkative, I take it?"

Merlin nodded.

"Aye. He wanted to be sure we were welcome and knew there was good food here."

He grinned at her.

"All little ones such as he are glad to talk to humans who can hear them."

"What a sweet little thing."

She smiled back. "Are there creatures you do not know how to speak to?"

He led her inside to a seat at an open booth and they were soon brought waters and menus.

"Many. Many creatures do not want to, or are not capable, of speech."

"But they do communicate, yes? For a certain value of communication, anyway...or how would they make known to others of their kind what they needed."

She looked at the menu, slightly unsure of the menu choices.

He grinned.

"Oh, yes. Minds mostly limite to how much food an warmth and fuin they are having, but there is definite conceptual communication."

He winked at her.

The menu held some truly odd things, and he shook his head, and randomly chose something.

"Banana Steak? Wierd."

Ganieda blinked. "That is slightly strange, yes."

"Strawberry chicken?"

Again with the random.

She smiled at him. "So...what holiday are you celebrating this year? Do you do Christmas or Solstice?"

"It does sound a good compromise, doesn't it?"

She smiled at him. "I do not know what to do for gifts for people, though..."

He smiled softly at his sister.

"My wife to be enjoys the gift giving, and I do too. And I already have your gift."

He gently touched her shoulder.

"Simply make something of yourself, or give a gift that reminds you of the person. Honest emotion is all that counts."

"I already do," she said softly.

"There will be family things, yes? Gatherings and such?"

She really is looking forward to the holidays, to be honest.
