Who: Malakai and Crying Wolf
What: Saving a damsel in distress? She's crazy and sad, he's feeling guilty. It works out, somehow.
When/Where: Backdated to last night, a little after Crying Wolf posted/the apartment she ended up in
Warnings: Likely crazy? And a dead body. Beside's Kai's. But nothing too horrid, I don't think.

It took calling in a couple favors, and a bit of scowering on his part, but Malakai managed to find the apartment building the girl- whose name he wasn't even sure of- had landed herself in. The smell of blood was worrying to him, especially as it only seemed to intensify as he approached the apartment she was supposedly in.

Frowning, he worked to compose himself as he knocked, unsure if it was better that it was the girl who was hurt, or someone else.

The chivalry went unnoticed. She seemed to have some difficulty with the sweater, getting a little lost in it for a moment. She managed to get dressed, though, and curled up on the bed. "I'm sorry," she murmured, her voice wavering. "You can cry if you want to. Cry if you need to." She closed her eyes, shivering.

"Do not worry about me, child. I am fine. Do you need to cry?" He didn't know just what that meant, but if she kept offering it to him, perhaps he was supposed to offer it back?

It didn't seem like she heard him at all. "Forgive me," she whispered. Her past haunted her, and she kept echoing the same words, like a ghost trapped in the same path. She was speaking to someone who had been dead for many years. Not as many as the man in the room with her, but still.

Once she was dressed, he decided to take the risk, walking over to her and setting a hand to her jaw, to gently guide her face up so he could look into her eyes.

"Darling, listen to me. Listen, here. I need to talk to you. I need to understand,"

She was coming closer to facing something she had been trying to hide from for over a decade, and the terror showed in her eyes. Her hands shook. She couldn't.. She balled her hands into fists and shoved them down against the mattress. He wasn't Snake. She tried to glance away before meeting his gaze again.

She opened her mouth as if to speak but nothing came out.

His fingers slipped away, although his eyes remained intent on her face, searching for some sign he was making any progress at all.

"What is it? You can tell me. I want to help,"

Her throat was suddenly dry. She hadn't spoken in years, not really. She'd just been reciting the same lines. Reliving the same memory from the cold position of an observer. She didn't connect to the memory emotionally, just playing a part. Now that was no longer an option.

"They came to our village.." she said, her voice shaking. "They killed my family. They killed everyone."

The world made his lips thin into a sharp line; too often, he had been this 'they', the destroyer of towns and lives. He didn't like the reminder, probably any more than she liked reciting the memory.

"I doubt they are here now, child. This is a new world. A new chance."

"No," she said, perhaps too sharply. Then she retreated. If that was all she needed to say, she could fall into her comfortable old patterns again. She dropped her gaze to the bedspread, drawing her knees in to her chest.

'New World.' She had heard that before. It may have meant something for others, but her world hadn't changed.

"Yes," His retort was just as sharp, just as simple.

"This is not like the time before, darling. Whatever your time before was. This place is like... nothing I have ever seen. Likely, like nothing you've ever experienced. No one is going to bother you," Granted, he didn't know that for sure, but then he needed to say something to keep her calm, keep her talking.

"You don't understand," she said, surprised by her own clarity. The pain was intense, and the tears were rolling down her cheeks. "I'm not afraid."

He looked her right in the eye, gaze pleading yet somehow strong, as well. "Then make me understand."

"The things I saw," she murmured, shaking her head. They were boys, hardly older than she had been. It was impossible to make sense of.

"I ran. With my baby brother." She had to pause. It felt like her throat was closing. She couldn't speak. It felt like she was there again and her survival instincts were trying to shut down her throat.

"We hid. He started crying. I was afraid they'd hear. They would've killed us." Stop it! Stop crying!

That was why she was so upset over crying, then. He started to piece together the picture from what he knew of traumatized humans, and tried to work to make her understand it was safe.

"But you are safe here. I will keep you safe, if you let me. But we need to do something," About all the blood. About the little girl's body, in the other room.

"I didn't mean to," she murmured. "I never meant to hurt him." She buried her face in her hands. This might be the first time she'd let herself cry over her baby brother. She'd been so cold for so long.

She nodded, surprised to feel relief at his promise to keep her safe. She shouldn't trust people. Not after what she'd seen. But she felt comforted. She frowned slightly, though. She didn't know what to do about the body. She couldn't face it.
