Who: Malakai and Crying Wolf
What: Saving a damsel in distress? She's crazy and sad, he's feeling guilty. It works out, somehow.
When/Where: Backdated to last night, a little after Crying Wolf posted/the apartment she ended up in
Warnings: Likely crazy? And a dead body. Beside's Kai's. But nothing too horrid, I don't think.

It took calling in a couple favors, and a bit of scowering on his part, but Malakai managed to find the apartment building the girl- whose name he wasn't even sure of- had landed herself in. The smell of blood was worrying to him, especially as it only seemed to intensify as he approached the apartment she was supposedly in.

Frowning, he worked to compose himself as he knocked, unsure if it was better that it was the girl who was hurt, or someone else.

The door swung open under Malakai's hand. Inside, the walls and floor were splattered with blood. The apartment, had it not been graced by such macabre decoration, would have been a nice place. The furniture was expensive and the main colors of the decor were beige and white. The wall had art mixed in with framed family photos. Several of the photos were of the deranged woman with a toddler. In the pictures, the woman looked normal and happy, a typical mother and daughter. The girl could not have been more than three. Now her body was in the middle of the room, mangled and covered in blood.

Crying Wolf was sitting on the floor in a corner, her back against the wall. She didn't look up when the stranger entered. She wore a white summer dress which seemed oddly out of place, bright red blood standing out in stark contrast to the lace.

Having braced himself for the blood, Malakai was able to keep himself calm and collected, even if the sight and the smell of the blood had his senses on overdrive. His eyes went from the girl body on the floor, to the woman in the corner, to the photos on the wall. He frowned, more confused than judgemental.

"Darling? It's Malakai, we spoke on the boards," His accent was as contained as he could manage it- closer to 'Bond Villian' than 'Dracula'. "Are you... hurt?" Obviously she wasn't alright, at the least.

"I've cried myself dry," she murmured, to no one in particular. Her vision was out of focus, eyes on the floor. She wrapped her arms around herself, smearing blood on her arms. She didn't seem to hear him. The infants' cries in her mind were too loud. She lifted her bloody hands to her head, clutching her ears as she rocked.

Then, suddenly, she lifted her face to him, meeting his gaze. "I tried to stop him," she said, her eyes pleading. "I couldn't make him stop."

He didn't like the sound of that; too many times, being caught as the 'him' in these situations. "Did you see who did this? What happened, darling?" Kai dared to step closer, kneeling down just out of her reach.

"The wolf.. I couldn't stop it." Her eyes darted around the room. She shifted forward, moving onto her knees. "It comes at night and.." Her gaze fell to the body before looking away. She shivered violently, though the room was warm. She didn't make a move or reach out to him.

Kai frowned, too used to hearing about wolves... but then it wasn't the full moon. It couldn't be, with how dark it was out. And he could tell, by the smell of the blood, it wasn't old enough, to have been from the night before. Something didn't check out.

"Perhaps you should come with me, darling. In case it comes back?" He held out a hand to her, not wanting to touch her without her her consent- especially since there was that much blood on her.

"It always comes back," she murmured, her voice low and mournful. She reached out, taking his hand in her blood blood-covered own, using his help to pull herself up to stand. She seemed unsure on her feet, swaying a bit.

The fact that she was even involved in a two-way conversation, even if it was disjointed, was a huge step forward. Before, she hadn't heard anything people had been saying to her. Malakai had broken though that wall, at least.

"All the more reason to leave," He let her pull herself up with his hand, stepping in to steady her when she seemed to sway.

"It's alright, child. You're safe, now. Do you want to go to the authorities?" Because while he could clean the place for her, that would take both a lot of explanation, and time. And she didn't seem patient enough for either.

She shook her head. He didn't understand. The wolf followed her. It didn't matter how far she went. They couldn't hide. She looked around the room, her eyes losing focus again.

Then she looked back up at him, suddenly lucid. Her eyes seemed devoid of emotion as they stared into his. "Kill me," she begged. It was the only way to end her suffering. She shouldn't be here.

He saw the lucidity in her eyes, and his lips pursed into a thin line. He didn't like how serious she was, in her plea.

"I won't, darling." Not unless she directly threatened him, or proved she was the reason that child was dead. "Come. We need to get out of this place. I can take you to the police."

"No," she protested, her face changing again. Her eyes filled with tears. "No, no, no, please." She pulled back weakly, but made no real attempt to get away from him. In fact, she was still holding onto his arms, leaning against him. "Stop it, stop.. Stop crying," she whimpered, her voice quiet and unsure.

It was times like this, Malakai wished he was more practiced dealing with the crazed. Even so, he relented to her mood swing easily, pulling her closer once again, running a hand through her hair in a simple gesture of comfort.

"Alright. No police. But let me take you somewhere less..." Distracting, "Messy, at least." Seeing he wouldn't be able to get her out into public without creating a large scene, he at least walked her away from the body and the blood, heading down the hall in search of a bedroom, office, somewhere he could set her down, and try and get her to talk.

She let him pull her close. It was not something she was used to. People didn't calm her down, and she didn't know how to respond to it. She didn't know how to be relaxed. She followed passively as he led her to the bedroom.

What now?

For now, he led her over to the bed, sitting her down gently. He remained standing, if only to move back to what he hoped was a closet, to look for something else for her to wear.

"Do you have something you can change into? To get out of the blood?" He was well aware she might not answer him; the question was merely for his peace of mind.

She crawled onto the bed. She had no idea what was in the closet. She barely knew where she was. There was so much conflict in her psyche. With everything so quiet, it was hard for one aspect of her to dominate over the others.

Still, part of something he said got through to her. She pulled off the dress, discarding it on the floor.

Kai managed to find a sweater and a pair of sweatpants, not glamorous, but enough to keep her warm against the London chill, and her shock. He passed them over to her, trying for chivalry by keeping his eyes averted.

The chivalry went unnoticed. She seemed to have some difficulty with the sweater, getting a little lost in it for a moment. She managed to get dressed, though, and curled up on the bed. "I'm sorry," she murmured, her voice wavering. "You can cry if you want to. Cry if you need to." She closed her eyes, shivering.

"Do not worry about me, child. I am fine. Do you need to cry?" He didn't know just what that meant, but if she kept offering it to him, perhaps he was supposed to offer it back?

It didn't seem like she heard him at all. "Forgive me," she whispered. Her past haunted her, and she kept echoing the same words, like a ghost trapped in the same path. She was speaking to someone who had been dead for many years. Not as many as the man in the room with her, but still.

Once she was dressed, he decided to take the risk, walking over to her and setting a hand to her jaw, to gently guide her face up so he could look into her eyes.

"Darling, listen to me. Listen, here. I need to talk to you. I need to understand,"

She was coming closer to facing something she had been trying to hide from for over a decade, and the terror showed in her eyes. Her hands shook. She couldn't.. She balled her hands into fists and shoved them down against the mattress. He wasn't Snake. She tried to glance away before meeting his gaze again.

She opened her mouth as if to speak but nothing came out.

His fingers slipped away, although his eyes remained intent on her face, searching for some sign he was making any progress at all.

"What is it? You can tell me. I want to help,"

Her throat was suddenly dry. She hadn't spoken in years, not really. She'd just been reciting the same lines. Reliving the same memory from the cold position of an observer. She didn't connect to the memory emotionally, just playing a part. Now that was no longer an option.

"They came to our village.." she said, her voice shaking. "They killed my family. They killed everyone."

The world made his lips thin into a sharp line; too often, he had been this 'they', the destroyer of towns and lives. He didn't like the reminder, probably any more than she liked reciting the memory.

"I doubt they are here now, child. This is a new world. A new chance."

"No," she said, perhaps too sharply. Then she retreated. If that was all she needed to say, she could fall into her comfortable old patterns again. She dropped her gaze to the bedspread, drawing her knees in to her chest.

'New World.' She had heard that before. It may have meant something for others, but her world hadn't changed.

"Yes," His retort was just as sharp, just as simple.

"This is not like the time before, darling. Whatever your time before was. This place is like... nothing I have ever seen. Likely, like nothing you've ever experienced. No one is going to bother you," Granted, he didn't know that for sure, but then he needed to say something to keep her calm, keep her talking.

"The things I saw," she murmured, shaking her head. They were boys, hardly older than she had been. It was impossible to make sense of.

"I ran. With my baby brother." She had to pause. It felt like her throat was closing. She couldn't speak. It felt like she was there again and her survival instincts were trying to shut down her throat.

"We hid. He started crying. I was afraid they'd hear. They would've killed us." Stop it! Stop crying!

That was why she was so upset over crying, then. He started to piece together the picture from what he knew of traumatized humans, and tried to work to make her understand it was safe.

"But you are safe here. I will keep you safe, if you let me. But we need to do something," About all the blood. About the little girl's body, in the other room.

"I didn't mean to," she murmured. "I never meant to hurt him." She buried her face in her hands. This might be the first time she'd let herself cry over her baby brother. She'd been so cold for so long.

She nodded, surprised to feel relief at his promise to keep her safe. She shouldn't trust people. Not after what she'd seen. But she felt comforted. She frowned slightly, though. She didn't know what to do about the body. She couldn't face it.
