Who: Darius and Ophelia
What: meeting, chatting
Where: her hospital room
When: first thing in the morning
Warnings: I'm going to hazard a guess at cuteness

Darius whistled as he walked to the hospital. He'd made up a story that sounded plausible enough to him, and was ready to be interrogated at the check in center.

The woman behind the counter smiled at him, took his name, and told him which room to go to without any ado. Darius laughed a little at himself and went down the hallway, whistling, looking for Ophelia.

Ophelia looked a bit thoughtful. "Oh...all right. I did think that was an odd thing for you to do."

She supposed that was one good thing about not speaking overly much. At least there was not much of a chance that she would say things without thinking.

"That does not seem a very good thing for your health, however..."

"It's not, really." He sighed a little. "But I learned how to dodge really well quickly."

"Oh." She rubbed her forehead a little confusedly. She was oddly tired but she didn't want him to leave.

Contrary to how she acted, she really did not like being alone.

He touched her hair softly, scooting a little closer. "Are you well, Ophelia?"

Her eyes widened with how he was touching her, and she blushed.

"I...I am just tired." Exhausted is more the word for it. "Many new ideas. I am not used to thinking so much," she said with a rueful smile.

He scooted back again, and his hand moved to his lap.

"I'm sorry. Would you rather rest?"

It would not be prudent or chaste to ask him to stay.

"I...I feel I must. Though..."

Women were honest now, were they not?

"I wish I did not have to ask you to leave for me to do so." She blushed again. "Though I do not wish to be forward..."

She looked dreadfully confused again.

He blushed brightly. "I'll stay, if you would like. What do you want?"

His tone was gentle, there was no pressure to do anything but decide. He just wanted to make this easier for her someway.

She chewed on her lip again. "Will you? Just till I sleep."

So wrong. So very wrong and maybe she was mad after all...

Ophelia felt as if she were stumbling in the dark, lost.

"Yes." He nodded. Part of him was reeling with this. "I'll stay."

He blushed brightly. "Do you want me to stay here, or on the bed with you?"

Though he was a man of his time, Darius knew that Ophelia wouldn't react to this manner of thing the same way that some of his girlfriends had. He wouldn't dare take advantage of her, for fear of making her life even harder. But he knew how important physical contact could be.

Ophelia held herself together enough to say, "You can sit there. I just..."

She sighed and shook her head.

"I do not know what I need or want, Darius. I am just very tired and do not want to be alone."

"Alright."

He settled again, and smiled. "It's okay. I'll stay until you wake up. I could use a nap myself."

He'd had to get up fairly early in the morning to get there when visiting hours first started.

A part of him wondered when he'd gone insane. Why was he doing all this?

Possibly a question for another time.

He wished T.S. Eliot would leave him alone. The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock was not exactly the poetry he thought most appropriate for the situation.

Ophelia smiled a little and slipped into bed. She had no clothing of her own, and what little she did have were things that could be slept in anyway.

"Thank you," she said softly, just before her eyes closed. She fell asleep easily, curled up like a kitten, snuggled into her blankets.

He smiled softly at her, then took out his phone. He figured the best way to get the poem out of his head was to reread it.

He had no intention of leaving anytime soon, and had enough patience to accomplish this.

Beside, he could always text message Sophie and Nate if he got bored.

Truly, she had just become overloaded, and sleeping is the best defense mechanism she knew.

Ophelia did not sleep very long--only a couple of hours, and when she woke up, she could see him using a small glowing silvery object. The glow reflected on his face.

He was very handsome.

"Darius?"

He looked up, smiling widely. "Hey. Good morning."

He padded over quietly, and knelt by her side, close to the head of her bed. "Did you sleep well?"

"Yes." It was most strange, but not unpleasantly so, to have him so close to her face.

"What were you doing with that object?" She gestures to it, still in his hand.

"I was reading poetry."

He showed her the screen. It was filled with another poem. "The writer's name is T.S. Eliot. He's more modern that Mr. Shakespeare."

He liked being close to her. She felt calm, but not cold. It was nice to be around her.

The screen is so very tiny, not like the computer that she uses to post to the forums.

She glanced at the poem, reading a few lines. The language was difficult for her but there was something there that tugged.

"I am afraid I do not understand the poem, though there is something in the way it reads that is attractive."

Ophelia has not been cold since that first morning when she arrived. Before that, it seemed she always was.

He nodded. "I can read it to you, if you like. It's a little easier to understand the emotion of a poem when you hear it."

He was pretty sure this wasn't the kind of poetry you read to girls. But that wasn't a big deal, really. She'd like it or she wouldn't.

"I think I would like that," she said. People read to each other all the time in her world...the human voice was a primary entertainment.

He nodded and started, a little shy at first, but soon he found his stirde, and his voice became more sure, more passionate, until it ended, as most of Eliot's poems did, with death.

Maybe not the sort of thing to be reciting to Ophelia, now that he thinks about it.

It's perfectly all right, since Ophelia gets the emotion from his voice...but the poem has far too many modernisms for her to understand fully.

"That was very interesting," she said. "I still do not understand most of it but it is quite lovely, the way it reads and you have a wonderful voice."

She blushed again.

He blushed as well.

"I apologize. I'll help you pick it apart later. It's easier when you have a paper to look at, and are prepared to do poetry analysis."

The smile he gave her was sheepish, and he got to his feet, stretching a bit. "You're very beautiful, Ophelia."

"I am much better with obvious things, I think."

She blinked. People have called her beautiful before. It was just that somehow, she never expected her to be so to other people.

"Thank you, Darius," she said. She smiled brightly. "I am glad you think so."
