Where: Seward Park Public Library, NYC
When: Saturday
What: A meeting
Who: Ganieda and Sam Witwicky
Ratings: none

Ganieda was becoming very good at walking quickly since coming here. Living in the city afforded her a myriad number of destinations within a very short distance. She comes into the Library, peeking around to find Sam.

She is wearing a wine colored cotton dress and a long, lightweight coat--sometimes the breeze is cool and Ganieda can feel it. Her hair is long and loose, as usual, and black as a raven's wing. She is bringing a moderately stocked bookbag, and she has earbuds in her ears, which she takes out of her ears.

She frowns in concentration as she looks around for Sam.

"We are...rather precisely alike. Or were." She shrugged. "We had the same hair and eyes, and we were precisely the same height. But I stopped using my magic, and we stopped looking alike."

Ganieda nodded. "That sounds quite all right with me. I shall defer to your greater pizza wisdom," she said with a grin.

"Oh? Wow. Sounds like things are more magically aligned in your world. I wonder if there was any magic in mine, just unknown..."

He grinned at her.

"I will do my best to lead you wisely."

He waved for a waitress and smiled at her when she came, ordering their pizza, then turning back to Ganieda.

"I eat a lot of pizza."

"It is possible. Magic users tend to be reclusive," she said. "I often am, but I am too much a social creature to be a complete hermit."

Her eyes sparkled. "I live in anticipation of what such a popular food tastes like, then."

He chuckled.

"I'm glad you are not a hermit. I would have missed meeting you and that would just have sucked!"

He nodded, and smiled at her.

"What do you like to do?"

"Well...I do like to spend time with my brother and his lover. I shall be an Auntie soon." She's very happy about that fact. "But most of the time, I am practicing either my fighting skills or my magic and doing my homework." She scrunched up her nose.

"Sometimes I walk the city while it is daylight and see what sorts of things they sell in the shops here." Not that she shops.

"What do you like to do?" she asks, in return.

"That's cool! Babies are noisy, and messy, but cool."

He nodded.

"Have you always had magic?"

Then he cocked his head.

"I like to go for walks too, when I dont lose track of time while reading or wandering the internet."

He grinned.

"Mostly, I read."

She laughs. "I have heard that about babies. I suppose I shall find out firsthand."

She sips her soda. "We have always had it, my brother and I. We were being trained to use it and I used to do little things with light to amuse my brother. And then...some people frightened me and I stopped using it altogether. When I came here, I could not help using it."

She grins. "I do like to read, myself...and there are so many books in this world."

He smiled.

"Cool."

He eyed her, then reached out to gently touch her shoulder.

"I hope that is always benefits you from now on."

He smiled.

"Good. I am glad you enjoy it. Sometimes, I can get lost in books and lose track of time."

She smiles at him. "I've gotten much more in control since being in this world, with help from my brother. It is not so scary anymore."

She rests her head on her hand. "Getting lost in a book is the best way to spend time...it has been a long time since I could do that."

This world is so careful about time. They even keep time with little metal instruments, and also on paper.

Back home, time was important...but not as important as what was done during those times.

"Good."

He smiled, watching her. Cute. Very cute.

"I hope you can find the time to do it. I like just finding my place in a world of magic and fantasy."

She giggles. "I live in a world of magic and fantasy," she points out. "Okay, well, only sometimes." Most of the time, unfortunately, she lives in the all-too-real world.

"I usually read non-fiction. There is so much about this world that I do not know. Many of the things that you and others on this world learned at five are still mysteries to me."

He blushed.

"Well, okay... I just mean, for someone like me, it's... magic was never really real to me, and now it is, and I like it."

He smiled at her.

"I'd love to see you do magic sometime. Does it feel like... special at all?"

he nodded.

"If I can explain anything at all, please let me know?"

"I...cannot possibly imagine thinking that magic is not real. I can show you any time you like...with something small. I work with light, energy and fire, so anything bigger would need much more room."

After all, the restaurant would probably not like to burn down.

She beams at him. "It's...hard to explain. It's a little like...being so happy you are about to burst, or being so restless that you have to run, or so unhappy that you have to cry. You think of something and...you either do it or you don't, but you can...feel that potential." She frowned, then. "That might not be an adequate explanation..."

The corners of her mouth turn up again. "I shall be sure to, Sam."

"Somewhere else, and sometime else then. And any time. I'd definitely like to spend more time with you."

He blushed thoroughly at saying it.

"It sounds wonderful."

He watched her and smiled.

She blushes too...though she's not entirely sure why. He's awfully cute when he blushes.

Wait, did she just think that?

She gives herself a little shake. "That would be nice," she says. "I'd like that."

And...it's the truth. She's a little confused with herself. You'd think she'd be used to it by now.

"What I do not understand is the term 'cool'," she says quickly. "Why are things that are good 'cool'? It seems that many people living here use that term..."

"Cool!"

He grinned, and then chuckled when she remarked on it.

"Um, well... let's see... Cool is just a phrase that came in use. American English.... it's kind of like a lot of people watch the television and listen to the radio, and sometimes people on those use slang, just randomly. Well, if people like how it sounds they use it too and sooner or later everyone does. That is how cool started and how it came into use."

Thoughtfully, she said, "Yes, that does seem to make sense. Considering how often people do watch television. No one seems to tell stories anymore...they just watch the box."

It seems rather sad to her. The box might be interesting to watch, but it wasn't living.

He nodded.

"The world is a weird and busy place."

He watched her, smiling.

"A lot of people have never known anything else."

Like him, really.

"That makes me very sad...it was such a pleasant way to pass an evening, telling stories around the fire. Especially in winter, when the nights were terribly long and dark."

She smiles. "I shall have to work on my own storytelling methods. I would usually leave that to one or several of the other ladies."

Tilting her head curiously, she asked, "Do you have favorite stories?"
