Who: Clark and Lois
What: explaining things
When: now
Where: Lois' flat in London

Lois was, admittedly, nervous. She paced back and forth in her apartment, racking her brain to figure out how to tell Clark everything. It was almost easier being the recipient of this kind of news than sharing it.

She was wondering where to start and how to phrase everything about their world being fiction here, under an alias, and that she knew his identity, and a hundred other things. Lois finally stopped pacing to pour herself a cup of coffee, trying to calm her nerves until Clark arrived. She hoped he understood the portkeys, but he could always fly over the Atlantic almost as fast if portkeys didn't work.

Clark did, after getting lost, purposefully, three times, and finding himself in Tokyo, and Sydney, and also someplace that looked like Bonn, manage to portkey to London, and find himself almost lost looking for her address. Of course he was actually watching her the whole time, now and then, and hoping she was okay.

He had no clue what to say as he knocked on her door. A whole new world, and one with trouble already...

Lois nearly jumped at the knock, her coffee splashing up the sides of the mug. It was nearly gone since Clark had taken so long to get here. She reminded herself that Clark still felt obligated to keep up the pretense with her.

She was at the door in no time, and took a deep breath before opening it. Lois put on a smile. She was glad to see him, but also far too nervous for that not to show. "Clark, hi," she smiled widely. "You want to come in?"

He smiled, eyebrows up, curious.

"Ah, yes, please, Lois. It's kind of drafty out here. Winds from the North and all that."

He offered her a wry smile.

"You look... ah, nice."

He nodded.

Lois couldn't help but grin fondly at his demeanor. She'd missed him, a lot. Lois stepped aside so he could enter. "Did you get lost on the way here?"

"Well, you know me, Lois, sometimes, I lose my way between the doors."

He handed her a pair of tickets to a Japanese baseball game, a pendant with a miniscule diamond from Sydney on it, and a German post card.

"I did manage to get you something on the way?"

Lois took the items he handed her, mouth hanging slightly open. "Clark..." She laughed a little, though it wasn't in a mean-spirited way, she loved how he did these sorts of things.

"It's been... awhile. I've missed you," she said, a little more serious now.

He gave her a lop-sided smile.

"You know me, just trying to not let anything be a waste."

He cocked his head, watching her.

"Well, I, ah, just came from seeing you, but, it's nice to see you, too, Lois."

His eyes narrowed, for a second. She still seemed nervous. Something was going on.

Lois tried to remember how long it'd been since she'd seen Clark. Too long.

"First things first. What's... what's the last thing you remember? From home?" Lois asked, setting the things down on the table by the door. "And do you want anything to drink? I have fresh coffee."

""Ah, well, there was an outbreak of crime in Suicide Slum, and there was the aftermath, still of Lex's latest scheme."

He smiled at her.

"Why, ah what do you remember, Lois?"

His eyes fell as his cheeks grew flushed, as he remembered.

"It was another time, with mistakes, foolish ones. I thought you would be safer without the connection, without being that close to me, with a normal life, and... I was wrong. When I came back, I realized that."

He closed his eyes.

"I hope you will forgive me. I never should have done it."

Then his eyes rose slowly.

"And I can undo it, whenever you want."

She listened again, attempting to do it patiently. It was hard to be really mad at him now, though she had been for awhile when she faced being a single mother. But there were questions she needed answered. She was more frustrated, maybe still hurt, than angry.

"Do you know what I went through, Clark? I was suddenly pregnant, with no clear idea of how it'd happened, and both Superman and Clark -- my friend, my partner, were gone. The two people I would've turned to in a time like that, and you were gone. Would you have left if you'd known I was pregnant? Did you know you'd be gone that long?" Her voice was searching, her face showing her near desperation for the answers. "I have to believe the answer's no, but..." She had to hear it from him. It was that simple.

And whatever she'd been feeling before quickly changed into surprise. Surprise that he could, surprise that he'd offered. "You can undo it?" she repeated, eyebrows raised high. "I..." She'd seen what had happened, but those were only movies that covered the major events. The entire process of finding out Superman's identity and the time spent with him couldn't be fully grasped in a two hour feature film.

He winced, but faced her, eyes pained.

"If I could take it back, I would. I can only imagine what you went through."

He swallowed.

"I had n idea you were pregnant and I had no idea I would be gone so long. I miscalculated everything and... I am sorry Lois, so very sorry."

His eyes showed sorrow, and pain that he had hurt her.

"I never should have done what I did, and I can never make up for it... but I can undo it, anytime you want."

Lois also looked pained. She didn't want to hurt him, and it was too hard to stay mad at him. She saw the sorrow in his eyes and it was more than enough. Things were in the past now.

"I know you're sorry. We can't change it now. I'm sorry there wasn't anything left of your homeworld," she said softly. "That makes everything that happened all the worse."

She peered up at him. "What would you have to do?"

He touched her face, eyes showing his thanks and a sorrow that did not leave. She forgave him, but he did not yet forgive himself.

"The same as before, kiss you. The effect is caused by a special chemical released in the mouth... and most Earth science would not work to explain it."

Her mouth fell open slightly in uncertainty. Kiss her? It made sense. But she wasn't sure she could go there and not have it hurtle things further faster in a direction she was still taking her time thinking about. She was already unconsciously leaning slightly into his touch. She wasn't sure what a kiss, even an innocent one, would do to her feelings.

She closed her eyes, pressed her lips together as she weighed the options. Was she ready to have all her memories restored? What if there was some aspect it was better she not know?

She opened her eyes to look up at him. "If you think I should know, then I trust you," she whispered.

"No one should lose a part of themselves."

He leaned in, and his eyes caught hers as he willed the pheromone to release and he kissed her, the kiss lasting but a few moments, the shift happening immediately, and his face somber and uncertain as she pulled away to watch her face. Now all he could do is wait.

It took a few moments after Clark pulled away for the memories to begin flooding back. She gasped, gripping his arm for a moment as she became disoriented. But it was all there. Pieces of memory fell into empty places she didn't know she'd been missing.

Lois slowly raised her eyes up to him, blinking. "Thank you," was all she could finally say. She remembered now, instead of viewing things from an outsider's perspective. There was more, so much more that she'd not had.

"Huhn..."

He nodded.

"I'm a comic book writer... for Ultraman."

He gaped at her.

She studied his ID in astonishment. "Maybe you should. Set the record straight on some things," she said teasingly.

"It certainly keeps you on your toes. Listen, Clark... I don't want you to go but I need to lay down." She looked at him tiredly, her eyes feeling heavier by the moment. Her head was a jumble of new memories that were really old memories surfacing and there were some she intended to fully examine later, when she was alone, but right now, she felt like she needed to sleep it off. However, letting Clark out of her sight didn't seem to be an option.

"You should lay down and I should..."

He waved a hand outward.

"I should check things out. I have a feeling I might spend some time up there... but, I would like to, maybe go eat, with you, if you would like?"

He smiled, unsure of her reaction.
