Who: Ava and Henry
What: meeting up after Henry returns from his killing spree
Where: the office
When: backdated
Warnings: None probably.

Ava wasn't usually the type to worry. After spending hundreds of years with a demon she'd gotten to the point where she really didn't care much about anything. If you cared that meant that things could hurt you. She'd guarded herself from getting hurt mentally. The physical pain was what she wasn't able to fight against but she'd gotten so used to it that it wasn't a big deal. Ava had been really worried about Henry. He'd left and she hadn't heard from him except the one time when he told her that he would be gone longer. Then today she got a cryptic message saying that he had lost time. He did not remember what happened.

After the week that they had shared last week she knew that she was still capable of being hurt. When she saw how much Henry had changed over time living without her and his friends... that had hurt her more than she was willing to admit. When they came back to their present time it was almost for her to bear when he told her that he was going away. She wanted to go with him and she didn't understand why he wanted to be away from her. Until she found out what he was doing. He was taking preventative measures so the future that they had both seen wouldn't come to pass.

She wasn't sure exactly what he was doing but she had a good idea. If he was trying to take down all of the cult members in a week that would definitely take a toll on him. Maybe enough so that it caused him to go into a state of shock and not remember.

All of these things wouldn't stop running in her head until she heard the bell on the door in the back of the office ring. That had to be him. He came forward calling her name. As soon as she saw him she did a sweep of his aura. Standing up immediately, she lifted her hands and incanted, "Orbus," making a protective circle around herself. His aura was smutty. Extremely black and barely recognizable. "No need to hide your true form demon. What do you want?"

Henry's eyes widened and he held up his hands, attempting to placate her so she didn't do anything hasty. "Ava whoa, hold on, it's me." He had no clue why she thought he was a demon. He knew this might not be easy to convince her of, but he would have to try. "Listen, I don't know why you think I'm a demon, but there has to be some way to prove I'm not." With a wry grin, he added, "That doesn't involve blowing me up. I'm just a little bit partial to my limbs." Seemed he'd picked up a little bit of sarcasm from his future self.

The intruder told her that it was Henry and she narrowed her eyes at him. "No, you are not." Then he started to joke with her just like Henry would do to put her at ease. "Your aura is not recognizable to me."

Muttering a few words under her breath she formed a small ball of fire in her hand. "Don't come any closer." She told him since she was unsure. Then she decided that she could easily find out if he was who he was claiming to be if he answered a few questions for her, "What is your favorite food and what was the first thing you showed me how to use when I came here? Only my Henry would know those things."

Henry chuckled a little, seeming completely unconcerned with the ball of fire in her hand. "Y'know, I'm actually glad you wouldn't fall for a trick like this. Eases my worries a little." He put one hand down to fish out his lighter and smokes. He lit one up and dropped the two of them back into his pocket, keeping the cigarette pinched in his lips until he could bring his hand back up to take it.

"Showed you the computer first thing, you called the shoes prisons, and after I showed you the other stuff we went for a drive." He didn't answer the question about his favorite food, mostly because the chaos of the past several weeks left him uncertain as to whether he'd told her.

"That smells foul." She told him with a sneer. Was this really him, she thought. He was turning into the cold hard old man that was in the future. Closing her hand on the ball of fire to extinguish it she walked over to him. Getting this close to what might not be him was a bad idea.

Weary since he didn't answer that he liked pasta she said, "Okay, that is correct. You didn't answer the food but that's enough." Grabbing the cigarette from his fingers she broke it in half and closed her fist on the hot end burning her skin. The pain was nothing to her really but she smelled her flesh being burned a little.

Turning her back to him, knowing with the look in his eyes when he saw that she had hurt herself she said, "I am not going to let you destroy yourself."

Henry walked quickly around her, taking a gentle hold of her wrist with one hand. "Let me see your hand, Ava." He was quiet now, not sarcastic and loud as before. He gently tugged back her fingers to look at the burn on her hand. He sighed heavily and his eyes closed. "C'mon. We need to put some aloe on this." Or at least some Neosporin, if they didn't have aloe.

He kept his head down as they walked, at least at first. "I did what I had to do," he said at last. "I can't wipe out the Order globally, but I have sent them a message. They won't bother us again." He didn't plan to go into detail. He just wanted her to know that he'd been doing only what he had to in order to protect the future, to protect their future. He may not have been able to go up toe to toe against the eldritch horrors that lurked in the dark corners of the world, but he could make them realize that messing with him meant losing more than they gained. And as long as they knew that, as long as they knew that the cost in resources and servants would be severe, they would think twice about messing with anyone he cared about.

"Do not fret over this." Ava tried to shrug off him being concerned over the burn on her hand. "I have had far worse in my time." That was the truth. Her body healed faster than human bodies and that was why Ugeralimepte passed her around to his friends, especially Hades. Fire dripped from his very fingertips. Shaking her head from that dark memory all of that didn't matter now.

"This is just one Order my love. There will be others that you will have to face but why can we not face them together." What he was doing she felt was very noble and brave but she wondered at what cost? Even if he had managed to strike fear in their hearts wouldn't they be more intent on destroying him now than before. She didn't want to think of that right now. She was just glad to have him back.

Walking behind her desk she shut her computer down and turned on the answering machine to the office lines. She switched Henry's private line to be forwarded to his cell phone now. "Can we go home now?" Looking up at him for an answer she hoped that he knew what she meant. She didn't want to live apart now but she figured that he'd want to talk about it.

"Absolutely," Henry said. He wanted this, and if she wanted it too, then in his mind there was nothing to really discuss. He imagined they would have to talk about moving things and the like, but right now that didn't matter. What mattered now was that they could have a future untouched by the Esoteric Order. They would never take her again.

He was glad she wasn't bringing up what he'd had to do in order to do this. It was better left unsaid. He didn't set out to destroy the Order globally. He knew he'd never be able to destroy the older, more powerful versions of it that existed out there. But killing every member in the North American branch, literally killing all of the Order members in the entire country, let these other versions know not to fuck with him. That's what he was going for, and it was what he hoped would happen.

He slid his arm around her, a little smile creeping up his face. He could quit the booze and the smokes for her, that was no problem. Well, okay, maybe the smokes would be a little problem, but he would kick it, eventually. If it was for her, he could do it.
