Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:ganieda, invincible iron man

Who: Extremis! Tony Stark and Ganieda
Where: Downtown Manhattan
When: Late afternoon
Why: Tony's in town and what's better than bumping into a prophet?
Rating: PG-13 at most for language and imagery

Tony used to not be in a habit of taking care of issues with his company, but he'd been fiddling with several things with Stark Solutions, namely setting Pepper as a partial owner.  This was something he'd mentioned once with her, but they'd never brought it up again.  But they'd died and it'd changed a lot of things with them.  If something happened to him, while he knew the other version of him had a controlling factor over the company as well, Pepper deserved a part of the place she'd kept running for over a third of her lifetime.  He wanted her to have say in it if the time came for it.  But for some reason, since the main part of the company was based in New York, he had to go there to settle papers.

He'd left early that morning, leaving strict instructions with Jarvis to tell her that he was gone to New York to take care of some paperwork and he would be home that night.  She knew if she wanted to talk to him, all she had to do was ask Jarvis to patch her through to the suit or just call him.  He wasn't hiding from her at least.  So once he'd taken care of everything, Tony decided to window shop and look for a few things for Pepper while he was there.  Always a good thing to bring your girl something when you came home from a trip.  So he found himself walking downtown, his eyes peering into individual shops at the shiny baubles.

Ganieda had been doing that as well. Everything sparkled so, and they were so pretty to look at.

But now, her fascination had been caught by a parking meter. She had never seen one before. She twisted the dial and wondered what 'violation' meant (at least in this context) and why it was there.

This world was so strange sometimes.

Tony had seen some not so bright females in his past, including slept with plenty of them, but the one currently poking the parking meter nearby made him laugh out loud. He turned his head and tilted his sunglasses down his nose to see her better. His attention drawn away from the rings in the window, he walked over to the strange woman, thinking she may have just ran out of change for the meter.

"You need a quarter for that thing or is it broken?" he asked, then hit it with his hand hard enough to jar it, thinking it was broken.

Ganieda startles. "Oh! Um. Oh...I was just. Um. Wondering what it was, actually."

He cannot think her crazier than he must at this moment. She blushes rather brightly, embarrassed.

He looked her up and down when she said that she wondered what it was. "You're kidding, right? It's a frikkin' parking meter. You know, those things you put money in and pay for time to park your vehicle here." And he demonstrated by dropping coins in the slot and turning the knob until it showed paid time.

Tony had seen too much in his lifetime to just think this woman's quirk was crazy. She really seemed lost and harmless to him. "Tony Stark," he said, introducing himself and sticking his hand out to her in greeting.

She's just an ordinary looking sixteen year old girl, though maybe her skin was far too pale for summer and maybe her bearing a little straighter than most teenage girls.

"Ganieda," she says, forgetting to use the name Genevieve, and shaking his hand. "I am afraid I have not been here very long," she continues.

"Ganieda. Pretty name," he mused as he shook her hand. "Aren't you a little young to be out here alone? Big city can swallow you whole." That could mean so many things here in this place. "As in you just arrived from abroad or some mystically stupid vortex picked you up and dropped you here?" To most, being asked about a vortex would seem strange. For him to ask that kind of question was as normal as asking what her favorite color was.

"No one has bothered me before," she says, tilting her head. "And Mother is out, and so I roam by myself sometimes." Sometimes it's better than sitting around an empty apartment.

"The second one, actually." She felt rather relieved. "I am from Avalon, around the year 490. Everything is very strange to me."

"Doesn't mean they won't. Like me. You don't know I won't mug you." Though if she was the type who could read a person, she'd see he was no more a threat than a leaf. If anything, he'd protect her if something arose. "I assume your brain's a bit outdated for the things that go on here. I'm a superhero. And an inventor. And a rich guy...well, the resume goes on and on," he said, waving a hand. "You could just hang out with me. You can tell all your friends you got to hang out with the awesome Tony Stark," and he flashed her a very friendly grin. He ws just messing with her.

Ganieda, if anything, looked very amused. "I do not think my brain is outdated, sir, but I have never met any such thing as a superhero." She laughed a little.

He seemed to be so arrogant, but she could tell that was a front. "I would not mind walking with you for a time." He had, after all, captured her interest.

Tony looked at her, surprised. "Never heard of Iron Man, eh? I think you'd be the first I've met who didn't." Which was sort of a good thing. She could judge him based on what she figured out from interaction and not from the pages of a comic book and what he'd done in them.

"I've got to shop for an engagement ring. Could always use a woman's opinion that is not the one it's for." And he motioned his head in the direction of a shop he'd been looking at just before. He stuck his hands in his pockets and walked next to the young girl. "So, ancient times, eh? Been there, done that."

Ganieda shook her head. "I have only just arrived here a few days ago...perhaps a week." She got so confused, what with the electric lights and everything, on days and nights. No wonder people needed those calendar things.

"Oh, will you be getting married? Bright blessings upon you and yours." She walked with him towards the store. There was a slight hum in the back of her head, and she smoothed her hair in the back absently.

"I am sorry, I do not know what you mean." She is still getting used to the colloquial phrases here.

"Don't know yet. I still have to get a ring, and propose and she has to say yes." If he didn't just buy the ring and chicken out or something. Why was he even thinking about doing this? Wasn't the two of them sharing each others' houses and time just fine?

"Ancient times. I've already been in the past before. Got stuck there once for a little while. Been there, done that. It means I've already had that happen." Boy, she was going to have a hard time following him sometimes.

"I'm sure she will say yes," Ganieda murmured. Didn't most women?

"Oh, I see. And how did you manage to go to the distant past?" She was beginning to feel a little strange, but it would probably pass.

"The sayings of this time are not always clear to me."

"Let's hope so," he said as he stopped right at the shop's window. There was a display of various pieces of jewelry: rings, pendants and the like, all things that were beautiful and he thought deserved to be somewhere on Pepper.

"Um, you're going to figure out soon that this world ends up with a lot of strange things happening for no reason. Recently there was a ghost that killed people, before that we jumped into several time periods, medieval era was one of them." He nodded, smirking just a little, "Well slang is a hard thing to get if you're not used to it.

Ganieda, as always, is dazzled by the jewelry. "What does the engagement ring look like these days?" In her time it could be a ring of any sort.

"Oh...that must have been very disorienting for you. But I take it that things worked out well."

The light seems to be in her eyes, and she looks down, rubbing them.

"Tends to be a big ass diamond and some kind of band, gold or platinum these days. Well large and expensive for those of us who can afford it." He waved his hand and motioned for her to follow him inside of the store. "Nah, wasn't too bad. I've seen worse. Lucky for me, I got here at the tail end of all that time traveling. I don't know how the nanites in my body would have reacted to time shifting and if they would have stopped working because the technology changed each time."

He saw that she was rubbing her eyes, and he wondered if anything was wrong. "You okay?"

"Oh...what are nanites?"

She blinked a couple of times, hoping that what was happening...wasn't what was happening. "Oh, I am fine. Just the brightness of the day."

"Nanites are very very tiny robots that are so small that can't be seen with the naked eye. They are in my body and do a lot of jobs like repair me when I've been injured." It'd be difficult to fully explain everything they did to someone who didn't understand technological advances of today." Tony pulled off his very cool Ray Bans and held them out to her. "Here, you can wear these if the light's bothering you. I used to have trouble with migraines so I know how light can be such a pain."

"Oh." She has never heard of such a thing, but to be fair, she is still trying to wrap her head around the concept of "germs" and "cells".

Another thing she isn't used to yet are the strange contraptions people wear on their eyes these days. She manages the sunglasses on fairly well, but it is very dark to her.

"Thank you," she says with a slight smile, and almost asks what a migraine is, but manages to refrain. There's a rumble in her head. Oh, not now, please not now...

"You're welcome," and he grinned at the sight of her with the sunglasses on. They weren't a crappy fit, but they were custom made for him so they were just a little off. Tony had no idea what was going on with her since it was a mystical thing, and Extremis wasn't registering that it was occurring near him.

A young girl behind the counter asked if she could help him with anything, and as usual, Tony flashed her a sexy smile and leaned against the countertop. "Platinum band, diamonds and rubies in the setting. I need an engagement ring." Then the girl glanced over to the young girl in tow. "Not for her. She's just a friend helping out." Because Tony didn't go for them that young.

Ganieda managed a smile.

But behind the sunglasses, her pupils had dilated to their widest capacity. She had a death grip on her shoulder bag.

For good or for ill, she was going to have a vision, right here, right now, and her heart sped up.

As the girl brought out several trays of rings and set them on the counter for Tony to examine, she noticed Ganieda's stance with her bag, then pointed at her. "Is your friend alright?" To which Tony turned his attention and saw how tightly she was holding her shoulder bag. Shit. Why did he always befriend the ones with problems?

He told the shop girl she'd be fine, when in truth, he had no idea what was going on. He walked over and put his hand on her elbow, "What's wrong?"

She couldn't hear him. The sunglasses, too big for her, have slipped down her nose, her eyes look freaky, and she can't see him.

She's...not entirely there anymore.
All she can see is the vision, all she can hear is the thunder in her head and a baby crying.

There are no babies in the store at the moment.

Oh, Jesus, why him? He wandered around downtown and he managed to find the one person who did freaky things. He tried to shake her out of it, but he didn't get any response. That and he didn't know what was going on so he didn't want her to flip out on him.

So much to see, and it was beginning to thread itself into words and pressing against her lips.

"You passed into the realm of Death and came out whole on the other side," she murmured.

"But not everyone." There is a baby crying.

"You must be wary."

Her voice is flat and toneless, and her eyes are still blind to everything but the vision. But she can feel his hand on her arm.
