who. Starfire and Carrie Kelley
what. Movies and kicking of the butt
when. Tomorrow
where. NYC

Carrie had spent her night in front of a laptop in her former bedroom. The room that she'd once slept in now was used mostly as a workspace. There were bits of electronics strewn about the floor and parts on her dresser. It was on a whim that she'd decided to message Kory, partially because she was bored and partially because the thought had just happened to cross her mind. It didn't take long for the two of them to make plans. She'd left a little note for Dick that read: Going to hang out with Kory. Make a joke and I'm divorcing you. Seriously. And then she'd run out of the apartment with a small messenger bag on her shoulder and made her way down to the theater. Carrie had texted Kory before leaving to let her know the time and the place. She had enough time to get there a little early. And prepare herself.

Carrie was trying to be a better person. Going out and giving Kory a chance was part of that. It wasn't really Kory's fault that Carrie didn't particularly care for super sweet people, after all. And she wasn't a bad person, if you looked past the bubbly happiness and the weird alien speech impediment.

Carrie made it to the theater early and stood outside, arms crossed over her chest. They'd see the movie and then go crime fighting and then she'd be back home before she knew it. This is what Carrie told herself. And that patience was important.

Somewhere in the recesses of her mind, she knew that Carrie was simply doing this to conquer some sort of fear she had of perennially perky people, or to prove that she could soldier through an evening with 'the other woman'. Kory wasn't stupid. She knew that part of Carrie's reluctance to be around her had to do with the fact that Carrie's Dick had very nearly married an older version of Starfire. And who wants your boyfriend/fiancee/husband's ex-lover around?

But she still couldn't help the sense of excitement and anxiousness she felt at the prospect of watching a movie and crimefighting with Carrie. It was Carrie Kelley. She was Robin. Granted she wasn't Star's Robin, she wasn't even an older version of him. She was a force to be reckoned with unto herself. But none of that mattered to Starfire. She simply relished the fact that Carrie was all the things Kory loved about her boyfriend packed into a girl instead of a boy, and Kory didn't have many friends, especially girl friends.

All these things were running through her mind as she flew to the theater, heedless of the biting cold in the air. It might be May, but it was still New York City in the evening. The chill didn't bother her as the air slid over her bare arms, the tank top she'd chosen fitting to her snugly. As she drew nearer to the theater, she turned slightly in the air, her legs pointing downward to land just feet from Carrie and she nearly stumbled in the slip on sandals that covered her feet. She was much more used to her tall boots, but they didn't go well with the 'bermuda shorts' the lady at the mall had said looked good on her.

Sucking in a breath for confidence, she blew it out quickly and strode over to Carrie, the urge to hug her barely held in check. It wouldn't do to scare her off so early in the evening. "Hello, Carrie. I am pleased to see you this evening. Which movie have you chosen for us to view?"

Carrie didn't have many girlfriends either, and that might have had something to do with why she was so loath to hang out with Star. Even before she'd been a bat, Carrie had preferred her guy friends to her (few) girl friends. The fact that she was friends with Kimber, the most feminine woman to have ever womaned, was largely a fluke. And Kimber had plenty of redeeming qualities. Carrie didn't know Kory well enough to really know whether she had redeeming qualities.

Carrie saw Star before she touched down, a vision of alien beauty floating down the street. Carrie couldn't help but resent the fact that Kory was gorgeous, had a chest and long legs. Carrie was short and spunky, but she wasn't stunning like Kory was. And she wouldn't ever be.

The closer Kory got, the more Carrie tried to push these petty thoughts away. "Hey Kory," Carrie took a step forward. "I didn't buy tickets yet. I figured you might want to see something." She walked over to the box office and looked at the movies listed. "I kinda wanted to see Indy... Kentucky here, I think. Is that okay?"

It was refreshing and kind of encouraging that Carrie had waited for her before she'd gotten tickets. To Starfire, it meant that Carrie might actually value her opinion and it made her smile widely. She followed Carrie to the box office, her long fiery red hair streaming behind her.

"I do not have much experience with your Earth movies, but of this I am familiar. This Indiana Jones who is Kentucky Smith here would be most enjoyable." Tilting her head, she thought for a second, a little issue aking its' way to the front of her mind. "I wonder why things are not named properly here? I am one of the Teen Titans but here it is called Adolescent Giants. It is quite disconcerting, it is not?"

As they bought their tickets and made their way into the lobby, Starfire's face lit up at the sight of the snack bar. She went running over to it, pulling her wallet out of her pocket once again, intent on emptying it in the purchase of food. She ordered a large soda, large popcorn extra salt and butter, nachos with chili and jalapenos, a hot dog with mustard and chocolate syrup, and a box each of Junior Mints, JuJuBees, Sugar Babies, Dots, Mike&Ikes, and Whoppers. Grinning at Carrie as she ordered her own snacks, Star juggled her massive haul as they found the theater for their movie.

"I am most hungry. And since we are going to be kicking the butt later, I need my strength," she said, by way of explanation for her huge appetite.

She followed Star inside the building, pleased to find that most people didn't stop to stare at the orange alien princess at her side. New Yorkers had an odd tolerance for the strange. Though Carrie suspected many were used to mutants and figured Star to be one. "I'm guessing something just gets lost in translation over the interdimensional rift," Carrie said. This was as good an explanation for the weirdness of this world as any, really.

Carrie let Star order food first. And when she'd finished, Carrie was staring a little at Kory's pile of food. Maybe Kory just ate more than the average human being. Maybe it was an alien thing. She walked up to the counter and got herself a Coke and M&Ms. Once she'd laid down money which, thanks to the new job she had plenty of, she turned to Star. "Did you bring a costume or anything? We going to work in civvies?" Carrie had brought her costume in her bag, just in case. "It doesn't matter with me. Either or is fine. Just curious." She led them down to the theater and held the door open for Kory.

Giggling probably more loudly than she should, Kory walked through the door Carrie held open. "I am fine working in the clothing that I am wearing now. But I do not have much of a secret identity. The orange skin, bright red hair, and glowing green eyes do not provide me with much of a choice in that way. I would not be opposed to you wearing your costume if you are so inclined."

Sliding into a seat, she settled her mountain of food next to her, in her lap, and on the floor. Star waited for Carrie to get settled as well, and then held out her nachos to her. "Would you perhaps like to partake of some of my food?"

"Mmm," Carrie said, "I might change. Probably." It was more for comfort than for the sake of secrecy. Now that Carrie thought about it, she almost felt relieved that Kory wasn't going to wear her uniform. She'd seen Kory's uniform. There wasn't much to it and Carrie wasn't much in the mood to be getting an eye full of breast all night.

"Thanks," Carrie took a nacho. She wouldn't eat much. Working out on a stomach full of junk food just didn't seem like a smart idea. The lights dimmed within a few minutes and the previews began. Carrie crossed her fingers for the newest Ratman preview.

Carrie got her wish as the Ratman preview opened on screen, and Starfire found herself being drawn deeper into the preview, nearly losing herself in the darkness of it. Once it was over, and the film progressed onto the next one and the next, she still lingered over the last one. It was interesting to see Mr. Wayne portrayed in that light.

The lights dimmed completely, and the movie began. Star plowed through her massive stockpile of food as Kentucky Smith did his thing onscreen. As the movie wound to a close, Starfire stretched, sucked down the last dregs of soda in the humongous cup and stood. "Ready for the kicking of the butt?" she asked joyfully. She really did love being a crimefighter.
