Who: Kyle Rayner and Solvei Samuels
What: Hanging Out/Checking On Her
Where: Her Loft/Bakery
Warnings: Nah, Probably Not

Despite the change in realities, which oddly enough wasn't that strange of an occurrence, the skies of New York had remained as he remembered. The layout to the city was etched in his mind, patrolling the air had become second nature to Kyle, after all, it had served as much of a home to him as anywhere else ever had. Still, there was that lingering feeling of it all being a dream, that none of this could be real. Even as he soared over the homes of hundreds, he couldn't shake it, and had to settle with doing his best to push it towards the back of his mind.

It wasn't as if his life had ever lacked a purpose, not since that fateful night that he had been entrusted with a ring, but he had a specific task at the moment. One that didn't require the presence of a Green Lantern, or the powers of Ion. No, all that was needed was Kyle Rayner, and as selfish as that might sound, it was something he needed. Everything lately had been one giant blur, to put it mildly, ever since the battle with Nero had gone down. It was a puzzle, he knew something big was happening around him, but he wasn't able to see all the pieces just yet.

Maybe that was why he was so concerned with a woman that he barely knew. It made everything else disappear, at least for a little while, but that wasn't the reason. Something about her, some nameless quality, it kinda drew you in. Made you want to care, even when you'd barely spoken, and he hadn't tried to fight it. Her problems had been vaguely described to him, and though Solvei may not know it, he understood her better than most people would. All the women in his life, they met the same fate, cursed by whatever power had been granted to him. Taken away without a reason. He tried to keep his chin up, but he'd been questioning things lately, just like he knew she was right now.

The bakery hadn't been hard to find, he was familiar with that part of town, so getting to the address was a breeze. Kyle landed on the ground a flew blocks from his destination, the increasingly familiar costume of Ion disappearing from his body. He coulda just flown to the balcony, but he didn't want his other persona making an appearance tonight, it wasn't what she needed. The rest of the trip was taken at a jog, until he found himself coming up on the bakery, and immediately went around back. She'd said that she would be at the balcony, so he planned on meeting her there.

Once he was to the back of the building, he looked up towards the balcony, smiling a little. That was his plan. To try and get her to smile. "Kinda feel like I should quote some Shakespeare from down here." He was, of course, referencing Romeo and Juliet, but that'd have to do for now.

Hopefully, in time, if she decided she could stand him after tonight, there wouldn't be a need for the ladder. Lying to someone like her, or really anyone, wasn't something that he remotely enjoyed, even when it was to keep his identity secret. Too many times already he'd lost someone because of his name being known. It wasn't something that he took lightly. That didn't mean Solvei wouldn't end up knowing, it wasn't that he was opposed to that, just not a fact about yourself you let slip during the first meeting.

"Subway's not so bad, once you get use to the people on it, you're pretty much good to go." Kyle owned a bike, couldn't fly everywhere, especially when sometimes he just liked being normal. "Besides, advantage of living where you work? Not like you're going to be late." He kinda knew all about that, one of the bedrooms at his old place had served as a studio.

It would have been hard not to notice the crimson flush in her cheeks, but he only smiled, not wanting to make a big deal out of it. He understood why she coulda thought that, she was upset, and there were people out there who'd see that as an opportunity. Not to mention the fact that she was beautiful. "Can't wait for the grand tour. Building looks nice from the outside. Kinda old, not decrepit at all, I like it."

Once they had moved into her apartment, he looked around, trying to take everything in. The floors were wood, looked polish, a nice touch. The brick walls gave it a classic kind of look, one that he could appreciate. "I'll wait on the cup of coffee. At least for the minute." Her apartment really was nice, he knew she probably didn't have all the personal touches to it that she wanted, but it looked comfortable.

"Water, however, sounds surprisingly appealing." With the fridge already opened, he grabbed one of the bottles, tilting his head to look at her. Once he went back home, he was going to work on a house warming gift for her, he had just the right thing in mind. "Kinda weird, huh? You're suppose to have lived here for who knows how long...but everything is still new."

After getting the whole sex talk thing off her chest and he hadn't pushed her into talking about it more she felt relieved. It was almost like now she could try and relax a little. "I like the whole working and living in the same building idea but I know that it won't take me too long before I might feel cooped up. I'm definitely going to have to find something to do outside this building, you know?" Something besides slaying.

"I would say thanks, you know, for liking my building but it's not really like I picked it out." She said with a little smile. But she did like the building it wasn't home yet but she hoped eventually she'd get enough of things that were more her.

"Yeah, it is weird. Really weird." She was trying hard to look at all of the little things and not focus on the big things at the moment. Somehow the little things that she liked about her place, or the things that they were talking about were a lot less painful to talk about and almost seemed normal.

After he'd taken a water she closed the refrig and moved into the living room to show him it. There was a huge flat screen tv and all sorts of electronic type stuff that she really didn't know that much about. What she did like? Was the fire place, it'd be nice to curl up with a book on the couch on a winter day with a fire going. "I'm not really that much of a tv girl but I like the fireplace."

Then they moved into a study area that was kinda masculine for her tastes but she liked the built in book shelves that went floor to ceiling. The computer looked brand new. "I haven't really had the chance to look at what books are in here yet. It's on my list."

Then she showed him her bedroom quickly, it wasn't that spectacular to her either. It was just a big bed and there was a walk-in closet. The bathroom however was her favorite. "Is this all too chickish to be showing you all the rooms?" She hoped it wasn't for him. "This is my second favorite room in the house." She was obsessed with bubble baths and the bathroom had what would be a two person old style claw foot tub. She had only showered so far but she was looking forward to the tub, especially after a hard night of slaying. "I love taking baths."

They walked out and she asked, "Ready to see the business part of my place?"

"S'why I left NYC the first time. The cooped up thing. Lived in the city most of my life, but it takes a lot out of you, couldn't find my muse anymore." Kyle missed the retreat already, it'd been pretty peaceful, except for his job still found him, even out there. Part of him was already itching to get to work on something, a painting for her, something that'd compliment the room, or just let her at least be a little happy when she looked at it. There was definitely a thought in mind, but he'd save it or later, on one of those nights were he couldn't sleep.

"I kinda felt the same way about my loft. It's not really mine, even though my name's on the lease. Doesn't have that touch of home yet." Everything inside of it had been nice, sure, and some of it did fit his taste. But it wasn't like they were things that he'd picked out. It didn't have all of his personal belongings that reminded him of the people he cared about. That was going to take some getting use to.

When they moved into the living room, a grin spread across his lips when he glanced at the TV, it was a huge screen, not to mention it had surround sound and a DVD player hooked up to it. Definitely something he himself could have enjoyed at home. Of course right after that the fireplace caught his attention. It made the room appear that much more cozy. He understood why it was her favorite. "Kind of a TV geek, mainly at night, helps me sleep sometimes."

The tour was something that Kyle appreciated, mainly the fact that she was comfortable enough to show him everything, he just wanted to keep her mind off of her problems. Try and make Solvei's night a little better. "Looks like you have plenty of them. My place has sketchbooks scattered everywhere."

Kyle peaked his head into her bedroom, giving a slight not. The bed was huge, which almost made him laugh, considering how small she was in comparison. From there they quickly moved on to the bathroom, which he'd admit, was pretty extravagant. "Too chickish? Pssh. I consider myself privileged to get a personal tour." The bathtub was something else, it had that classic look to it, but comfortable as well. "I think you definitely have the right kinda tub then."

"I am pretty curious about the bakery. So of course I'm ready."

Sol wondered if he would be able to find his muse again living in the same place where he had lost it before. She hoped that he would. When she gave up ballet for slaying she just assumed that she'd closed the door on that part of her life. Now, she wondered if she could do it again. Since she would be staying in one spot and not having to travel the globe with Xander it might be a possibility. Or living in hotel rooms and traveling across country with Dean and Sam.

"TV helps you sleep?" She asked wondering how it could. Maybe the background noise. It seemed like the more they talked the more things they realized that they had in common.

She smiled a little at the mention that he was glad that he was getting a tour. Even though she had glanced at everything she hadn't bothered to really look. She hadn't even thought to think of what she wanted to do to make it more her. In truth, she hadn't wanted to.

Then she showed him to the stairs that were on the front of the building and took him down. The sheer size of this building even though to most it wasn't huge, was huge to her. She didn't remember the first house she lived in with her parents until she was three. The flashes in her memory of it, it was small and cozy. Then after her mother died the apartment that she had shared with her Dad. Then the small house that she lived with her uncle. They had all been small. After that there was various hotel rooms, council houses, and then of course there were even a few huts thrown in. She'd never had a home besides her parents house that was truly hers. It was totally a foreign concept to her.

As they were walking down the stairs she said, "It's not like any of the bakeries I went to growing up." There was just the one in the little town of Indiana where she lived until she was sixteen.

Once they were down the stairs she turned the lights on. The ceilings were high and the walls were the same brick as the upstairs. The floor in the what she thought was the lounging area were cobblestone. It was almost like at one time whatever this building was way back when they had continued the street into the sitting area. It was kinda weird because the tables and chairs only fit just so but she thought it was a cool look.

The display cases of course were empty for the night until the morning crew got in. She waved a hand at him for him to follow her into the back. Behind the counter were regular tile floors that were easier on the feet and she assumed they took the cobblestone out and put tile in for sanitary reasons.

The kitchen was large and there were industrial sized mixers for dough and big ovens. "This is where the magic happens." She pulled a box from a hiding place in one of the cabinets and handed it to him. "They were just made after I talked to you earlier so they still should be good." Inside were two of the brown sugar donuts he asked her about earlier.

"So, what do you think?"

"Sounds weird, I know, but sometimes it takes me a long time to wind down after work. So I turn on one of those dumb infomercials, the kind you see at 2 AM, puts me right to sleep." Kyle scratched the back of his head, giving a slight shrug of his shoulders. "Or I watch those old black and white movies on TMC."

He moved down the stairs with her, fairly eager to see what the bakery was going to be like, and even he was surprised at how large the building was. While it hadn't looked small from the outside, it hadn't looked overly big either, but your perspective kinda changed once you were inside. The ceilings were fairly high, which he was sure added to the whole thing, and it had that classic look like some of the things in her apartment did. Not necessarily old or out of style. Kind of the opposite.

The cobblestone was definitely a nice touch, it made his lips curl into more of a smile, eyes looking around at everything with a certain amount of curiosity, trying to imagine what it'd be like to live there. Something that she was just finding out herself.

It wasn't any surprise that the display cases were empty, he was sure they'd be full of all kind of pastries during the early hours of the morning, that was the way that it usually worked. He followed her behind the counter and let out a low whistle. "The equipment is definitely top notch. Couldn't imagine anything from here not being amazing.

Kyle hadn't ever really been behind the counters of a place like this before, so seeing the large mixers and huge ovens was a little different. It had been while he was inspecting one of the ovens that he saw her pull a box out, which immediately caught his attention. He took the white box from her and flipped it up, lips splitting into a wide grin when he saw the brown sugar donuts inside. "Did I mention that you're my hero? 'Cause this? Awesome."

"I think that you're going to kick the competition's ass. This place must smell like heaven when it's open."

It seemed a little peculiar to her that it would take so much out of him to paint. Maybe it was just a really emotionally draining thing for him. She was hoping that she could ask him about it at another time. It didn't really seem like the first meeting type of question. Yes, at times, she could be tactful. "Oh, black and white movies? What's your favorite?" Now that's something that she could probably get into.

She smiled at his reaction to the donuts. They were just donuts but it really was the least she could do with all the stuff that he'd done for her today.

"It smelled pretty good today, we'll have to wait and see. Now? Do you want to see the best part?" She hadn't turned on the lights in that part of the bakery yet because it was her favorite and what she was the most excited about. The coffee bar.

She walked quickly to the light switch and turned it on and it lit up the whole thing. There was several machines for espresso making and other assorted auto drip machines. The wall directly behind where the baristas stood had all of the different coffee in bean form ready to be measured out and made into coffee. "How's that for coffee making at it's finest?" She grinned at him.

Solvei felt at a loss as to what to do now that the grand tour was over. She felt as though she really wanted to ask him if he was the one that found Faith for her. It was either him or Henry. Since Henry knew a little bit more about her background since he offered up personal information about himself first she assumed that it was him. But Faith had said that both of them had been worried about her.

"What do you want to do now? We can talk on the balcony or go for a walk or something? Or if you need to go, that's cool too." She didn't want him to go but she would understand if he needed to.

Kyle realized that he'd almost let slip the fact that being an artist was really a side gig for him. It was what he loved to do, but it wasn't at the top of his priority list, being a Lantern had taken first for awhile now. Not that he was exactly a GL anymore. He was still one of the guys, but he was something more, the next step, progression, whatever you wanted to call it. He'd been hoping and praying that Hal was going to pop up, but no luck yet, which had left him at kind of a loss. "This is gonna sound even more geeky, but I love the old horror movies, especially Wolfman."

Of course he couldn't help but smile when he was holding the box in his hand. He use to always get a cup of coffee and two donuts when he went to Radu's. It was a strange little reminder of home, even if it wasn't the same cafe that he usually hit up. He grabbed one of the brown sugar donuts and took a bite from it, more than pleased with the taste.

"Tryin' to tell me it gets better? Sh'yeah, now I'm really curious." Moving behind Solvei, he watched as she flipped the switch on, and another area of the bakery lit up. The one where all the coffee was made. There were all kinds of different machines, ones for making espresso, normal coffee, cappuccino, everything you could imagine. It wouldn't have surprised him at all if his mouth had dropped open a little. "I think it's official. Definitely made a regular out of me."

Having finished off one of the donuts, he momentarily set the box down, looking down at her. "I...would you wanna take a walk? I was gonna ask, but wasn't sure if you'd feel like it." The balcony sounded really appealing to, he figured they could sit up there when they got back, unless she wanted him to leave. He didn't wanna overstay his welcome.

"Just haven't gotten my bearings since showing up here, figured exploring the city on foot could help a little." Mainly, he wanted to spend time with her, make sure she didn't have to concentrate on her problems, not right now.

The expression on his face that he admitted his geekitude made her laugh a little. "That's not really that geeky. I like old kung-fu movies, especially if they are dubbed." It was mainly so she could make fun of them and run her own commentary in her head about what they should or shouldn't be doing. It was a trait that usually drove anyone that she was watching them with absolutely nuts.

When he told her that he had made a regular of him she tilted her head to the side and gave him a quizzical look. "I'm sure you say that to all the girls you know with their own coffee bar." She smirked then to let him know that she could still have a bit of a sense of humor at the moment.

"Yeah, I'd really like a walk actually. Just let me grab my keys, oh and shoes would probably be a good thing. I'll be right back." She ran up the stairs quickly and slipped her feet into some shoes. She grabbed her jacket the one with the pockets on the inside and she slipped a stake inside the pocket just in case. She sometimes had suspicious tendencies. She thought that if she didn't take it then she'd need it. But if she did, then she wouldn't. She got her keys off the coffee table and came down the stairs.

She turned off the shop lights and said, "Ready."

"Nothing beats old kung-fu movies. With the insane sword fights and cheesy dialog. I love every second of it." Kyle, honestly, would have never guessed that about her. But it was one of those good surprises, there was tons about her that he didn't now, obviously, didn't mean he couldn't look forward to the chance of learning more. It also amused him a little that he could enjoy those movies when he'd oddly enough been in some of the same situations.

There was a mock look of shock on his face when she said that and he gave a defiant shake of his head. "That coulda been true, except you're the only girl I know with her own coffee bar, so it's a first time experience. Don't worry, I'll make sure to write it down when I get home." Seeing her smile, even in the slightest, did make him feel a little better. Like maybe he wasn't wasting her time, that he might be able to make a difference, that was really all that anyone wanted.

"Shoes are kind of a requirement, I hear, especially in New York City." He didn't really pry or anything when she went back up stairs, he glanced around the bakery, but that was mainly because he didn't know how some of the machines worked. He imagined it'd be different when all the workers were there but that was definitely something he was going to end up experiencing in person.

When she came back down, he'd moved back towards the tables, watching her flip all the lights back off. "It's kinda different walking around the city when the sun is down. Not in the scary dangerous kind of way...just get to see a different side of it. I'm more of a night person anyway."

After she had turned the lights off they walked out the front door and she smiled a little when the bell at the top dinged. She liked that it was a real bell and not one of those cheesy fake ding dong electronic kinds. Once they were both out she locked the door.

"My natural body clock is definitely a night owl too." She was a little excited to see more than just the hour and a half that she had spent at Central Park earlier. It would be cool to see the city when it was at it's slowest time. Which from what she had heard and read about the city, was never really slow.

They walked for a little while in silence. Sol was always cautious and looking around her. That was instinct for her and she really couldn't tone it down that much. She decided that it would be best if she did the whole telling him that she knew that he or Henry had found Faith.

"I know kinda that you were worried about me and I think you might've talked to a guy named Henry? Anyway, you guys managed to find a friend for me and thanks for that. I'm not sure exactly how you guys did it but thanks." She never felt truly comfortable thanking people for things. It wasn't that she didn't feel it, she just never liked the vulnerability of it all.

The soft ding of a bell had caught his attention when they had started to walk outside, which made him look up, slight smile tugging at the corners of his lips. It was a nice touch, not one of those electronic ones either, a real bell. It kinda find the rest of the building. He didn't know why, it was something small, but definitely something noticeable.

"Yeah? Me too. Had insomnia for awhile, kinda worked itself out, just use to staying up at night now." The insomnia was completely work related, when he'd been given the powers of Ion for the first time, he felt everything. It was almost like he'd been able to hear everyone's thoughts across not only the planet, but the universe, could see them all on his mind. It'd almost driven him crazy, but now that he'd gotten a hold on it, the transition was getting easier.

Walking next to Solvei in the slightly warm New York night, not having to say anything, that wasn't uncomfortable to Kyle. The short silence didn't bother him. Honestly, he could enjoy just sharing the view with her, things like that didn't bother him. He had noticed that she was always looking around though.

When she brought up talking to Henry and finding her friend, he swallowed hard, initial thinking that she might be mad about it. That wasn't the case, though, and he gave a slight nod of his head. "I-yeah. I was just trying to figure out how to make things right, then Henry started talking to me, and we came up with that. I was kinda worried...that you'd be mad. I didn't want you to think I was stalking you or something. Just wanted to help."

"Insomnia does suck." She'd had bouts of it several times before. And, most of the time she preferred to sleep during the day. That was because of her slaying at night thing. Sleeping during the day had become a necessity.

Solvei wasn't mad by any means about Kyle and Henry helping her out. She was just worried about the thought process on how they came about contacting Faith. She knew that Henry knew what she was because she had told him. She wondered if Henry had told Kyle. Not that she didn't want him to know, she was just cautious. Most people if you dropped the bomb on them that you were a vampire slayer would just put you in the crazy category. She didn't want Kyle to put her there.

"You did. Faith didn't turn out to be the same Faith that I knew but she at least knew of me. It... it was comforting to talk to her." She knew that she was giving a little something of herself away and she just wasn't sure about telling Kyle. Maybe there was just something that she felt that he might be holding back? She pushed that thought out of her head immediately. There was no way that she could possibly know something like that about him yet.

Then as they were walking by an alley she heard a oh-so-familiar noise. A person that had never heard it before would probably liken it to the sound of a lion growling. Then she heard the scream of a woman. She quickly put her arm on Kyle's to stop their walk. "Kyle, stay here for a minute. Just trust me okay?" She looked at him pleadingly. In the quick thought process she knew that she didn't have much time but she added as she started to run down the alley, "Just, stay behind me!"

By the time that she had gotten to them there were four vampires attacking what she assumed was probably a prostitute. It didn't matter to her what the woman was it was just an observation. She also knew that she had the element of surprise on her side. "Aww guys. No one told me that there was gonna be a party! How come you didn't invite me?" That got the vamp that was feasting on the woman to look up and all of the rest turn and look at Sol.

She threw her stake hard, really hard, and it dusted the vamp that had a grip on the woman. The woman was staring at Sol in disbelief and shock just as the vamps rushed her. As she started to fight with the vamps she shouted at the woman, "Run! Now's the time..." She did a back flip and grabbed her stake off the ground putting her in between the vamps and the woman so they couldn't grab her again. Solvei grabbed one of the vamps and threw him into another one giving her time to turn around and shout, "RUN!" The woman shook herself out of her daze as she was holding a hand to her neck and ran out the alley. She'd be fine she had just got a nip. Besides being dazed and having nightmares probably tonight she'd be fine.

When Solvei fought she tuned out the world. It was almost like dancing only with more kicking, punching and staking. She dusted the second only to get knocked on her ass by the third. She did a spin kick and knocked him into a broken pallet on the ground and he dusted instantly. One more to go. "Come on sugar. All of your friends are gone. It's just you and me. Think you can take me?" Just once she'd like one of them to turn and run, but they never did. They always went after her again.

Kyle hadn't pressed Henry for facts, he understood that Solvei had trusted the other man with some personal information, and the only way he wanted to learn it was from the source. Admittedly, Henry had dropped a few clues, and he'd been able to piece some of it together, the big picture hadn't entirely popped into his mind yet. While he did want to know, it wasn't something he felt he could just bring up, if anything, he wanted to earn her trust enough that she was willing to tell him.

"When Henry told me there might be other people here that'd know you...I just thought maybe it'd help. Making a connection with someone that you already knew." It was easy for Kyle to empathize with, when Ollie had started talking to him, it definitely made things a little easier. Knowing that Clark and Bruce were around also made him feel a lot better about everything. Didn't mean things were perfect, but he had friends here, and that's what he'd hoped to accomplish for Solvei when Henry had offered to try and contact Faith.

They'd just turned down an alley when something caught his attention. That sound. No way a human could make that, it was too bestial, but there hadn't been time to figure it out when the scream of a woman filled the air. As if to confirm what Henry had mentioned, and what he suspect, she had grabbed his arm and told him to stay back. Asked him specifically to trust her. If he were normal, he would have listened, but that wasn't the case, and it wasn't about trust. He wanted to make sure that she was going to be okay. When she started to run, he took off after her, not going to be left behind, especially when he could make a difference.

The scene in the alley was something he would have expected to come across, and at the same time, something completely strange. The four men surrounding a woman weren't exactly men. Their faces were disfigured, giving them a grotesque and disturbing appearance, which included fangs. Vampires? Is that what it really was? Had to be, but it wasn't like anything he'd seen before, and he'd been to different planets. And the way Solvei was approaching it, casual, confident, it was something to see.

Everything was happening almost in a blur. Shouting at the woman to run, the way she was moving, dispatching of the creatures with a grace he'd rarely ever seen. It felt like only a few seconds had passed, and he wasn't going to be useless, so he snapped out of his daze of watching her and decided to take a course of action. She was literally turning these things into dust, and while he hadn't dealt with them before, Kyle knew that he could help.

Being Ion, the ring wasn't a requirement anymore, he could tap straight into his power. With only the slightest amount of concentration, his entire appearance changed, the costume of his other persona surrounded him. While all of this was happening, she had cleared it out to one last person, which in all likelyhood, she could handle, but he'd learned a long time ago that you never risk it. Simmering green energy formed in the air, taking the shape of a Knight riding on his horse, lance extending out in front of him. The weapon slammed into the vampire, knocking him to the ground, where he knew Solvei would be able to finish him.

Solvei was just about to start in on fighting the last vampire when from the direction she had ran from came a freakin' superhero in costume on a horse! He hit the vamp with a lance and sent him flying. Sol did a double take not seeing Kyle anywhere and she looked up again at her "knight." She could look at him in a second, the vampire had started to get up and she didn't want him to get away.

She ran over to the vampire and since he was almost to all fours she kicked him in the gut. "Stay down." She looked over her shoulder to make sure that he was still there before staking the vamp through the back as dust poofed everywhere. She started to brush herself off as she walked towards her masked companion. She tilted her head to the side and gave him a smile as she looked up at him, "Guess I could've let you come with, huh?"

One of the perks of being a Green Lantern was being able to make energy constructs. It was the base of their power, harnessing will power, manipulating it into a weapon. The green Knight that had been created like a refine sketch started to fade off into the distance, as if it had never existed at all, and Kyle was left standing there, holding his hand out in front of him. There was a lot more that could have been done, but it was the first thought that popped into his head, and it had served it's purpose well. It had taken Solvei only one additional second to dispatch of the vampire like she had with the others.

Now she was looking at him, head tilted to the side, slight smile on her lips. This hadn't been what Kyle had imagined would happen at all, especially not on their first meeting, but it exposed both of the secrets they had been trying to keep. He had, at least partially, already known her from what little information Henry had admitted to him. It was strange seeing someone that small deliver such powerful strikes, but he'd learned a long time ago not to underestimate someone because of their stature, especially after meeting Atom. Looking down at her, he flashed a grin, this wasn't something that would make him panic. He'd dealt with it before.

"You coulda, but it looked like they never stood a chance against you." She really was something else to see. Now explaining how he came about being who he was today, it was more than difficult for someone to understand, even someone that had the kind of powers that she did. The costume remained in tact for the moment, the green glow that previously surrounded his body had disappeared, but that was all. "Easy to understand why you were in ballet now. Not just anyone can move like that." She definitely had a grace to her that he honestly hadn't seen often before.

"I..uh, this is my real job. I mean, I am an artist, I wasn't lying about that...but this kind of takes priority."

Solvei at first thought that she had been hallucinating when she saw the knight with the horse. When she had quickly glanced down the alley and Kyle was not behind her she thought that he had been the knight. Then when Kyle had stepped forward all was clear. She'd seen witches cast some amazing spells in her time. But she wasn't sure if this was any kind of magic, this was something different entirely.

She hadn't expected for things to have gone down like this. In fact, she hoped that it hadn't. But, it was almost like, something was guiding them to get to know each other. Solvei wasn't sure if there was a better way to get to know someone then to have fighting the good fight in common.

She shrugged off his compliment. "It was nothing, really." She was fascinated by his costume and the glow that was emanating from him. She definitely thought that he'd win the contest on who's super power was cooler than whose at the moment. Even though she wasn't exactly sure all of what his powers entailed. "Ballet helped, and I've had lots of teachers along the way. I definitely was not a natural when I started." To tell the truth she never knew why she came out of the battle with the first evil and some of her friends did not.

"That makes more sense now. Why you have trouble sleeping and everything." She understood completely now. He was a champion. Maybe that was why she was drawn to trusting him enough to come over tonight.

"Now that you've seen me fight, which is kinda boring in the grand scheme of super powers and all, I'm curious what else you can do. You don't have to show me if you don't want to. If you still wanna keep some things to yourself." She knew that knowledge was power. At least in her world it was. If the bad guys knew who you were you'd get targeted that much faster.

"Kyle, for what it's worth, I'm glad that you know and that I know." He hoped that he knew what she meant. She was glad that he knew so she wouldn't have to hide it from him. It also made it so much better that he didn't think that she was a freak. Maybe because he had some freak in him too, and that made him so much more interesting to her. He was interesting to her before but now he was more so because she could share that part of herself with him.

It had been a lot to handle, when his responsibilities had been explained to him, almost too much to grasp for a young kid that just wanted to be an artist. In the back of his mind, he felt maybe she had went through something like that before, that she knew how he felt. The same kind of weight and pressure that was placed on their shoulders. Maybe that was why he had almost instantly felt connected to her. Without even knowing the truth about who she was, there had been something and that was what happened.

It also helped ease the situation that had been created by them fighting a long side each other. She wasn't going to freak out because of who he really was. She wasn't going to accuse him of things, call him a fraud, or be overly suspicious. Not all people reacted that way, but some of them did, when they were presented with the unknown.

Kyle gave a small shake of his head, still smiling, and slightly amused. "Nothing? I don't think you broke a sweat kicking those things ass." He'd seen aliens, but oddly enough, he felt a little weird saying the word vampire. That was going to take some getting use to. "Seeing the way you moved out there, no way you aren't amazing at ballet." It wasn't an exaggeration, it had almost been like dancing, how she could move so fluidly, even when she was knocking things around that out weighted her by a hundred pounds like they were nothing.

"It's..yeah. Sometimes it's hard to deal with everything. You feel like you should be out there twenty four/seven, but you still want a life of your own."

Kyle flashed her the most charming smile that he could, this was the fun part, it wasn't like he was trying to show off to her, but Solvei had asked. "I'll show you...I trust you, and I have something in mind."

Taking in a small breath, his facial expression changed to become a little more serious at her words. "I'm glad too. I really didn't want to have to lie to you about anything." It wasn't a good way to create a friendship, and with this out of the way, he could be honest. "Give me your hand, Solvei."

"They were vampires." She clarified for him. Maybe they didn't have vampires where he was from. She really wasn't sure with all of the different time lines and realities that there were. Maybe even though he did kinda what she did he'd never seen one before.

She knew that she was good at what she did and all but she wasn't one to broadcast it or take compliments for it. "I might've been okay at ballet but I really wouldn't know anymore. Even if I wanted to pick it up I don't have shoes or even know where to buy them here." She was sure that she could figure it out if she decided she wanted to. Also she wondered if she tried to dance again if she was just holding on to threads of her old life that she could never really have again.

She understood what he was saying about wanting to be out fighting all of the time. Even though she was called a vampire slayer there was other things to be fought during the day. Not to mention all of the things that also included vampires that you could fight inside.

He smiled at her and he wanted to show her his powers. That meant a lot to her because he had a choice on whether or not he'd show her more and he took it. "Okay." She was curious as to what he was going to do and then with the change in his expression she became serious too.

Sometimes in life she'd get lines from men regarding their honesty. She always felt that she was a good judge on whether or not they were lying or not. She had no doubts that he was being honest with her when he told her that he didn't want to lie to her. She'd never wanted to lie to him either and that was partly why she was glad that all of this had come out in the open.

She faltered for a split second just because she wasn't sure what was going to happen. Curiosity got the better of her and she took his hand in hers.

"Vampires. Right, I knew that...just feels kinda weird saying it." Kyle had seen things other people couldn't imagine, he'd been to a completely different solar system, a different time line, so it was a little amusing that vampires had been different for him to comprehend at first. It was something he'd get over pretty quickly, but he still needed an adjustment period, and he was kinda glad for that.

While they did just share a pretty big secret about each other, there was tons and tons he didn't know about Solvei, what her life had been like growing up, all of the things she had done. Ballet might be something she never wanted to do again, he couldn't know, but he knew she had to have been good at it. "Well, if you ever decide to pick it up again, I'd love to see you."

He hadn't expected to instantly make things better for her in one night, there wasn't any way, no matter if he really did want to. But if for five minutes, she wasn't thinking about her problems, focusing on something else, then he'd succeeded somewhat. Hopefully, that five minutes would turn into half an hour, then three hours then a day. It was just going to take time. Like right now, she was at least smiling just a little, and that was something.

When she took his hand, he pulled her in closer, not trying to give her the wrong impression, or make her uncomfortable, it was just kind of a necessity for what they were going to do. "You ready? 'Cause it's about to get a lot more interesting." In truth, just holding her hand wasn't going to be enough, he had to wrap an arm around her body, which he hoped didn't bother her too much.

It was second nature to him now, he didn't even have to think about it, something he did every day. After only a second or two passed, they started to lift up from the ground, floating into the air. He was sure the Guardians wouldn't approve, but what did those blue midgets know? He wasn't abusing his power. The street was growing further and further away from their feet and he looked down at Solvei, wanting to see the look on her face.

"Did they not have vampires from where you came from?" She asked him curiously. Maybe they did and they just existed on tv, movies and comic books? Maybe like how Henry told her that there was a show about Buffy in his world? She wasn't sure but she bet between the two of them they could figure it out.

Nodding at him when he said that he'd like to see her do ballet. She wasn't so sure about that since she was probably pretty rusty. However, if she did start again, she just might show him some time. "Are you going to show me your paintings?" She hoped that he'd want to make this a thing. Them hanging out together. She was curious about what kind of paintings that he painted. The media he was working with lately he'd told her but he hadn't told her what style he painted.

"Yes." She was ready even though she wasn't sure exactly what he was about to do.

Then he had picked her up like she weighed less than a feather and was floating up off the ground. She held onto him tight and stared at the ground for a few seconds as it got further and further away. Then she was looking up at the stars with a huge smile on her face. Then, she looked at him and said, "This is truly amazing Kyle." Words couldn't really describe what she was feeling right now. She didn't think she could if she tried.

"Kinda? I've seen all the movies on tv, read the books and everything, I'd even heard a few stories. Just never actually saw one in person." It wasn't that strange for vampires to exist, not after all of the experiences he had while in the Green Lantern Corps, but that didn't mean it freaked him out any less. Honestly, he was kind of glad it did, meant that some part of him was still somewhat normal.

At the mention of showing Solvei his paintings, he gave her a nonchalant shrug, followed by a smile. "I'm not sure any of 'em wound up at my loft. But I have some supplies, so when I make one that's decent, you'll be the first to see." Kyle already had a few ideas, but he was going to keep them to himself for the moment, if only because he wanted it to be a surprise for later. Already in his mind, he had established the fact that he would see her again, at least he was going to ask about it.

The concentration it took to make them fly barely registered with him anymore, the powers of Ion were almost limitless, he didn't need to recharge anything like normal Green Lanterns did. With an arm wrapped around her, bright green energy was surrounding the two of them, and they were moving through the night sky at a leisurely pace. When his head tilted to look at his companion, he saw a smile on her lips, one that really did reach her eyes, brightening up her entire facial expression.

"Looks like I accomplished my mission." His tone was soft and light, a smile to be found on his own lips. "There's nothing like flying for the first time."

"Seeing things that you aren't used to seeing, especially in the supernatural setting, is always a little weird at first." On the other hand, even though Kyle and his powers were something new to Solvei entirely, she didn't find it weird. Maybe because she always hoped that people like Batman and Superman really did exist.

She wrinkled her brow a little as he told her that none of his paintings had wound up in his loft. That sounded sad to her. All of his hard work he'd never get to see again, it was sad. "Really?" She asked when he told her that she'd be the first to see. That touched her.

She laughed a little bit when he told her in a low voice that he had accomplished his mission. To be honest, with everything, she'd totally forgotten about her troubles completely. She gave him a small squeeze when he said that there was nothing like flying for the first time because she agreed with him wholeheartedly.

"Why do I feel so comfortable with you?" She did her blurting thing again but she really wanted to know. Was this part of his superpower? Getting people to trust him so easily? 'Cause this? Was not normal for her at all. Maybe it was just the circumstances that had brought them together.

"It's...different. I thought I'd be use to everything, but I'm not, s'not so bad though. Good to know things can still surprise me." Kyle never wanted to get to the point where he started to become less and less affected by the world. He'd seen someone he was close to go down that road before, and it'd been rough seeing Hal that way, it wasn't something that he ever wanted to experience himself. He still hated listening to the news. Every time there was a tale of human tragedy he flagellated himself for not being there to prevent it.

It'd been disheartening at first, not having his sketch book, or all the personal things he'd drawn before. Maybe they were hiding in the closet, he hadn't checked thoroughly, but he wasn't all that hopeful of finding them. "Of course," he replied with a grin when she seemed surprised that he'd show her first. "Already have just the thing in mind."

Hearing her laugh was new too, it was a sweet sound, not fake or forced in the slightest. It was what he'd needed right then, too often lately he'd felt the strain of both being a hero and the failures of his personal relationships. Being able to help someone, just as himself, it kind of sparked something inside of him, made something heal. Couldn't really explain it, but he felt it, that was what mattered.

Her question had caught him a little off guard, in a completely different way than earlier, but he still hadn't been expecting it. "I'd love to claim because of my magnetic personality, but..." Might not have been the best choice of words, he didn't want to make light of the situation at all, just a natural response. "I don't know. I've only known you for hours..but it feels longer, y'know?"

Curiosity was a trait that Sol did possess in abundance. She was curious to know what he had in mind that he wanted to show her. "Care to tell me about it? A hint, perhaps?" She asked him playfully even though she already knew that the answer was probably no but she asked him anyways.

"It does." She agreed with him but she started to feel at his words, something familiar. It was nothing that he had done wrong, it was just a reminder of intimacy. Not physical, but mental. It was a mistake that she had asked him that question. For some reason guilt started to build up inside her and she tried to push it back down. But, she was remembering how much her and Dean couldn't stand one another when they first met to the point where it bordered on hatred.

She closed her eyes for a moment and just rested her head against his shoulder trying to block out the bad thoughts. Sometimes if she closed her eyes and tried her hardest not to think for a while, about anything, she could clear her mind. This was a skill that she had perfected as a little girl. When she opened her eyes, it was a little better. Because she was flying but she felt as though she owed Kyle an explanation.

"I was just remembering." Shaking her head she decided to change the topic completely. And she figured that she was getting close to being put in the crazy category again with her little episode so she said, "Y'know? If I could fly? I'd never drive again."

It was easy to understand why she'd ask about his idea, he'd pretty much set her up for that much, but he hadn't meant anything by it. "Tsk, tsk, that'd be telling." There were two very distinct and almost certain possibilities in his mind at that point. In all likelyhood he'd end up creating both of them, there was just one small problem, that being he only felt comfortable with her seeing one one of the sketches. That being because he wanted to draw her, and having privacy issues, he wasn't really eager to show Solvei that. Especially if she thought he didn't do a good job with it.

Being part of the GLC had both it's drawbacks and it's advantages. Like the fact that he could feel the ripples her emotions created. As if they were part of the air, leaving the faintest pulse of her feelings, nothing more. It wasn't as if he were reading her mind, that wasn't the case, just call it a strong sense of empathy. Mentally he scolded himself, feeling like an idiot, thinking he should have been more careful with his words.

When he felt her head rest against his shoulder he did his best to remain still, wanting her to feel as comfortable as possible, the iridescent green sphere surrounding them as they traveled. A lot of the time, when things were bothering him, flying was what helped the most. Space was cold, but comforting in it's own way, when you were presented with the image of the Heavens, stretching out before you almost endlessly. The sun, no bigger than a distant pearl, the earth seemingly far off. It was something you never forgot, and something he intended to show Solvei sometime.

The ring had been guiding them, making a circle around Manhattan, not wanting to take her too far, not the first time. They came to a very soft landing a few blocks from where they had started, his green filtering disappearing, Sol being set gently back down on her feet. "I love flying. Jumping off the top of a building, never letting my feet hit the ground. But sometimes I drive...just to feel normal."
