Entry tags:beth silver, peter pettigrew, remus lupin (younger), sirius black (younger)

Who: Marauders and That One Bird Chick
What: Misunderstandings and malentendus
Where: Chez the various non-Peter characters involved
Warnings: Probably! Sirius is there.

Peter still felt uneasy out in public, even after coming out, as it were, as a potentially mass-murdering coward. But slightly less so. After all, before he had to worry about people finding out about him and killing him. Now he only had to worry about people killing him, which was a huge step up.

As he arrived at what he persisted in thinking of as "The Doghouse," he paused at the door, looked around nervously, and knocked. There was no answer. He knocked again. The door was unlocked, but Peter hesitated a bit. But realistically, what was he going to see that he hadn't already seen before?

Padfoot heard Wormtail's voice over the sound of his activities--keen dog-like hearing, after all--and the squeaking stopped. "Hey, stop. S'Pete," he said.

The door was, in fact, open, and Sirius emerged, with a sheet folded and wrapped around his waist. Stuck to his lips were several white feathers. "Hullo, Wormtail," he said cheerily, tiny feather bits flying from his lips as he did so. He coughed, plucking a few larger feathers from his mouth. Unfortunate side-effect.

Peter was going to say something snide, wondering if perhaps Sirius had given into his more canine urges and chased down a pigeon in the park, but a thought crossed his mind as the feather floated to the ground. He'd seen it happen before. Those were very similar feathers to Beth's.

An image of her nude flashed through his head, Sirius' head between her legs. Strangely, he wasn't that angry. Not angry at all, really. "Unfortunate side-effect... yeah, I bet. Who'd want me, when they could have you?"

"What?" Sirius asked, looking confused. Did Peter want Moony? Or James? Or Lily? "What are you on abou--"

He was interrupted by a pillow to the back of the head, wielded by a triumphant-looking Moony. They were all showered in more white feathers. "Oi! That was a rogue strike!"

Peter cocked an eyebrow as more feathers rained down, some of them landing on him. It took a moment before he decided that Sirius had not just cunnilingused Beth so much that he'd had enough to fill a pillow, and that Remus had been in on it as well. Confusion ran rampant through his head until the words "pillow" and "fight" ran into each other and stuck.

"I thought... never mind what I thought, I'm an idiot." Sirius was loyal to a fault. Literally. In some other future it would get him into trouble. "And it doesn't even make sense, come to think of it. Hullo, Moony, lovely erection you have there."

Moony seemed to be surprised to be addressed, so surprised he seemed to not hear the statement. After a moment his face turned very red and the pillow was pulled down in front of his sweat pants. "Wormtail. Hello."

Sirius swatted feathers out of his face. "That'd be a red card offense, you know. If we were playing tournament."

He smirked at Wormtail's comment and Moony's reaction. "He's not wrong, you know," Padfoot said, nudging Moony's ribs with his elbow. "Could take care of that for you," he offered, quite generously.

Beth emerged from the bathroom, stumbling onto the scene. "What? What'd I miss?" she asked, between the three boys and the pillow stuffing everywhere.

"Um." Peter looked around, in no small part relieved that Beth had come out of a room that was clearly not their bedroom. "Remus and Sirius were having a debate. Or foreplay. I have no idea."

And, because some small part of him was still afraid that he was just a stepping stone to Sirius or Remus or James or Lily (although he probably wouldn't mind it as much if he was just a stepping stone to Lily) he added, "You only have feathers on the full moon, right?"

"Pillow fight. Just a pillow fight." Oh he was rambly. "I'm going to... go. Back to the room. Now." He gestured to his room and vanished back behind the door, closing it.

"Not just a pillow fight," Sirius said with a wink after the door was closed. "M'gonna go help him with his problem," he finished the last word with a bit of a sing-song lilt as he snuck back into the room. The door closed again and there was a loud thud, followed by a few feathers poofing out under the door.

Beth was used to Padfoot's hijinx by now, and just shook her head a bit. "What?" she asked, turning back to Peter and tilting her head. "Yes, only on the full moon. Some of the older wolves can change at will during the month, but I can't imagine wanting to, myself." She looked over at the white feathered mess around the door and raised an eyebrow. "Did you think I was in there?"

"No! Of course not. I wouldn't. No. Maybe. Possibly. Yes. A little, yes. I was fairly well convinced by the whole, you know, feather thing. Only know a couple of people with feathers, you're about it." Peter shrugged, his insecurities laid bare for all the world to see. "It wouldn't be the first time a girl's got close to me and turned out to like Moony or Padfoot or Prongs more. D'you still want to go with me?"

Beth bit down on her lower lip, holding back a grin. It was sort of cute.

"First of all," she started, taking his arm in hers, "I have seen more of Sirius Black than I ever wanted to, despite Remus reminding him over and over that there's a houseguest and he needs to put on clothing. I'm honestly not interested in him, regardless of what he might think about his animal magnetism." She grinned. She wasn't trying to insult Sirius or anything. She liked him well enough, and she could see how girls would fall for him left and right, but she wasn't sexually interested in him. "Maybe I'm in the minority," she shrugged.

"I like your friends, Peter, but I don't want to sleep with them." There was something implicit there about who she did want to sleep with. "So yes. I do still want to go with you."

"All right then," said Peter, her come ons going so far over his head that they were at risk of crashing into low flying aircraft. "We're probably going to want to get out of here soon anyway. I fancy Moony's a moaner, and he won't be comfortable knowing people can hear him."

He held out his arm in a fashion he'd seen someone do once in a Muggle television show. A manly one, with beer and sports and breasts, and definitely not a soap opera at all.

Beth giggled at the joke and wrapped her arms around his offered one, snuggling closer than the girl probably did in the manly soap opera. "We're going!" she called, to put Moony's mind at ease, before shutting the door.

She looked up at him as they walked down the empty hallway. There was a playful little smirk on her face "So... Do you fancy me a moaner?" It sounded funny in her American accent.

"Hard to say, I haven't known you as long as I've known Moony," said Peter absently, while in his mind he was flailing and Little Peter was quite suddenly threatening to tear a hole in his trousers. Once again he found reason to loathe Muggle fashion.

"So, um... I... um... anyway... yeah..." He closed his eyes and shook his head fiercely. "Right. I thought we could get dinner first, then see a movie? See if all those Muggle Studies classes I took actually helped me out at all." He tried to subtly adjust himself so that he wasn't at risk of getting his bits and pieces caught in the door.

Good. It wasn't a lost cause, after all. She smirked a little at his reaction, her breast 'accidentally' brushing against his arm. "Maybe we can work on that later," she cooed.

She nodded, grinning. "Sounds like fun. What do you want to see?"

There are a lot of things I want to see, thought Peter. Unfortunately, he wasn't James or Sirius, so he couldn't pull off a line like that. He did steal a glance at her body, though. "Um. I'm not sure. I don't watch much of the telly, so I don't know what's playing all the time. I thought that we could get there and, you know, see what lines up with our interests, as movies go."

Why were girls so squishy and why did that entice him so?

"Have you... have you noticed any that you'd like to see?"

"A few," she said, grinning. She ran her fingers along his arm and down to his hand. "Back to the other topic, I haven't really seen many previews either. I like your idea. We'll just see what's playing." She pulled closer to him. It wasn't really that chilly, and her body temperature ran hotter than the average wizard, but she cuddled close anyway.

It was still strange to be considered even slightly attractive to any female, but perhaps she was just the kind of girl that was naturally cuddly, so he paid it no mind. After all, Sirius would gladly jump on any man, woman, or child's lap without provocation, and very possibly without pants.

"Yeah, I... yes. Maybe when we do this again we can make actual plans before leaving! I was never good at the planning business, always left that up to the others."

"It would be a little weird, having Sirius and Remus plan our dates," she said, smiling. He knew it was a date, right? It isn't as though she went out with anyone else, really. She hardly even left the apartment except to shop for groceries and things.

She snuck her fingers between his, intertwining them. "It's sort of exciting.. not knowing exactly what the night will bring.. Don't you think?" The movie theater wasn't far from where Sirius and Remus lived, and it was a nice night for a walk. They had reached the building before long.

This was a date? So then she did like him with big, squishy emotions and big squishy assorted parts? Maybe he should have found it suspicious. Despite James and Remus and Sirius and Lily insisting that he was exactly the kind of person they wanted to spend time with, Peter still thought of himself as a tag along. A loser.

And here was this beautiful woman, sweet to the point of almost being annoying, and she liked him? Did she realize that she was quite a bit taller than he? Did she--they were holding hands. Peter's cheeks colored.

It was a short time before they reached the cinema. "So, um... d'you want to see a funny movie or an action or a drama or what? And don't say it's up to me, I am very indecisive."

Beth examined the posters. "Mmm...Something funny, maybe?" Was usually a safe bet, especially for someone who was friends with Sirius and James. Comedy might help break the residual ice and put Peter at ease.

She leaned against shoulder, pointing at one of the movie posters. "How about that one?"

"Kumar and Harold's Trip to Gitmo. All right." Somewhere, the part of his brain that had absorbed Siriusness over the years suggested that it was quite possible that it didn't matter what movie they saw, since there would be a much more interesting show going on in Beth's mouth. He didn't say it aloud, but he did blush at his own idea.

Peter paid for the tickets and held the door open for Beth. "D'you have Quidditch where you come from? 'Cause it's weird, every world everyone else is from has football and cricket and all the normal things, but they've never heard of Quidditch." It came out of nowhere, but when distracting himself from sexy thoughts, Quidditch worked.

Beth shook her head. "We didn't have Quidditch. Though, I've heard Sirius rambling about Harpies and other things that I can only assume are team names. He's tried to explain it a bit, but he usually gets distracted." If Sirius was capable of talking about any topic for more than two and a half minutes, Beth hadn't seen it. Someone walked in, or something came on TV, or a bird flew by.. He was like a ferret.

They walked into the theatre. It wasn't terribly crowded tonight. "Here?" she suggested, in a row near the back.

"Holyhead Harpies. The only all-female team in the league. Back in the fifties, they--you don't care." He took his seat and Beth sat beside him. "If you ever do care enough to listen, James knows everything there is to know about Quidditch."

The previews started quickly. As far as Peter could understand it, Muggle cinema worked thusly: they paid a great amount of money to sit with a group of strangers in a dark room and then watch thirty minutes of adverts before their film even started. But then, there was one advantage: he had company.

She smiled sweetly. "I'd care more hearing about it from you," she said. It was a stupid and cheesy line, even she knew that. But she couldn't have him thinking that she didn't want to listen to him. She would listen to anything he had to say, to every word.

But the previews were starting. She shifted toward Peter, leaning on the armrest and snuggling against the boy. She didn't pay much attention to what was on the screen. She was too wrapped up in worrying about making sure the evening went well.

Peter was a Gryffindor, but only just. More often than not he suspected that the Sorting Hat had made a mistake, or that he'd ended up in Gryffindor because he wasn't clever, ambitious, or (to his shame) loyal enough for any of the other houses. So what he was considering doing terrified him. And yet he did it anyway.

Peter yawned and stretched his arms high. Then he slipped one hand behind Beth's seat as he brought them down. Subtly, he moved his arm so that he had it around her without technically touching her, and then he slowly touched her shoulder to see how she reacted. When she didn't object, he left his arm there and smiled to himself.

She smiled when he pulled the classic first-date move. He was sweet, and so.. innocent. As much as she wanted to throw herself at him--to speed this relationship along and ensure that he was attached to her--she might have to rethink her strategy.

It was happening again. She was letting him charm her. If she were colder, if she were how she should be, she would just leave him for the next. Find someone who would be a better protector and fall for her fast. But she couldn't make herself do that now. She was starting to really like him, maybe more than he liked her. It was a little terrifying.

She leaned against his arm, resting her head on his shoulder.

Yes. Pretend to yawn/arm around the girl maneuver is super effective. Why has no one thought of this before? He rested his head against hers, smiling to himself.

Peter suspected that part of his attraction to her was that she had been subjected to Sirius and Remus on more or less a daily basis and still preferred Peter, for reasons that he could only describe as fetishistic. Maybe she was into small mousy guys with the muscles of a twelve year old girl. Sirius could make a statue fall in love with him, and Remus had the ability to make anyone feel better just by standing there. Peter made sarcastic comments and spilled things.

He didn't know her that well; mostly he knew that she was pretty and that she was nice to the point of being annoying. But Peter was pretty annoying himself, so maybe that was okay.

He was too sweet. Her plans for taking advantage to the dark room and relatively isolated seats were derailed, at least for now. She rested against him, nestled close for the rest of the movie.
