Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:beth silver, peter pettigrew, remus lupin (younger), sirius black (younger)

Who: Marauders and That One Bird Chick
What: Misunderstandings and malentendus
Where: Chez the various non-Peter characters involved
Warnings: Probably! Sirius is there.

Peter still felt uneasy out in public, even after coming out, as it were, as a potentially mass-murdering coward. But slightly less so. After all, before he had to worry about people finding out about him and killing him. Now he only had to worry about people killing him, which was a huge step up.

As he arrived at what he persisted in thinking of as "The Doghouse," he paused at the door, looked around nervously, and knocked. There was no answer. He knocked again. The door was unlocked, but Peter hesitated a bit. But realistically, what was he going to see that he hadn't already seen before?

"Holyhead Harpies. The only all-female team in the league. Back in the fifties, they--you don't care." He took his seat and Beth sat beside him. "If you ever do care enough to listen, James knows everything there is to know about Quidditch."

The previews started quickly. As far as Peter could understand it, Muggle cinema worked thusly: they paid a great amount of money to sit with a group of strangers in a dark room and then watch thirty minutes of adverts before their film even started. But then, there was one advantage: he had company.

She smiled sweetly. "I'd care more hearing about it from you," she said. It was a stupid and cheesy line, even she knew that. But she couldn't have him thinking that she didn't want to listen to him. She would listen to anything he had to say, to every word.

But the previews were starting. She shifted toward Peter, leaning on the armrest and snuggling against the boy. She didn't pay much attention to what was on the screen. She was too wrapped up in worrying about making sure the evening went well.

Peter was a Gryffindor, but only just. More often than not he suspected that the Sorting Hat had made a mistake, or that he'd ended up in Gryffindor because he wasn't clever, ambitious, or (to his shame) loyal enough for any of the other houses. So what he was considering doing terrified him. And yet he did it anyway.

Peter yawned and stretched his arms high. Then he slipped one hand behind Beth's seat as he brought them down. Subtly, he moved his arm so that he had it around her without technically touching her, and then he slowly touched her shoulder to see how she reacted. When she didn't object, he left his arm there and smiled to himself.

She smiled when he pulled the classic first-date move. He was sweet, and so.. innocent. As much as she wanted to throw herself at him--to speed this relationship along and ensure that he was attached to her--she might have to rethink her strategy.

It was happening again. She was letting him charm her. If she were colder, if she were how she should be, she would just leave him for the next. Find someone who would be a better protector and fall for her fast. But she couldn't make herself do that now. She was starting to really like him, maybe more than he liked her. It was a little terrifying.

She leaned against his arm, resting her head on his shoulder.

Yes. Pretend to yawn/arm around the girl maneuver is super effective. Why has no one thought of this before? He rested his head against hers, smiling to himself.

Peter suspected that part of his attraction to her was that she had been subjected to Sirius and Remus on more or less a daily basis and still preferred Peter, for reasons that he could only describe as fetishistic. Maybe she was into small mousy guys with the muscles of a twelve year old girl. Sirius could make a statue fall in love with him, and Remus had the ability to make anyone feel better just by standing there. Peter made sarcastic comments and spilled things.

He didn't know her that well; mostly he knew that she was pretty and that she was nice to the point of being annoying. But Peter was pretty annoying himself, so maybe that was okay.

He was too sweet. Her plans for taking advantage to the dark room and relatively isolated seats were derailed, at least for now. She rested against him, nestled close for the rest of the movie.
