Who: Harry and Tonks (also open to Remus, Luna, Hermione, Ron, if they want)
What: a Patronus conversation about Xenophilius Lovegood.
When: Monday morning.
Where: Harry and Tonks's locations.
Warnings: TBA.
Status: Incomplete
Crouch's note had been one thing, Malfoy's was quite another. Two of the people that Harry hated most in the world were threatening to do terrible things that he could do nothing about. Or could he? He didn't know what Ron was doing, though he suspected that Ron was keen to go after Crouch and Malfoy as well, without even needing to see the latest update on their cruelty. Next time, Harry was going with Ron, he wasn't taking no for an answer. He'd wear the invisibility cloak, or take the luck potion, or both; he was done staying behind for the rest of his life.
But they couldn't just break into the Ministry, or Azkaban, wherever Mr. Lovegood was being held, at least not without knowing exactly where he was. Once they knew, maybe they could go from there. How could they find out, though?
Harry was stumped on this question for a good fifteen minutes before it hit him, like a sledgehammer. Why hadn't he thought of it before? Tonks worked at the Ministry, under cover. It would be insanely risky for her to do anything, and yet, he couldn't just sit by and watch Luna's dad get tortured and eventually killed without even trying. If Tonks managed to work at the Ministry every day, surely she was more than familiar with what it would take to keep herself, right? Or would she be as blinded by rage as Harry was sometimes, and rush in blindly?
He'd have to be careful with his message. Moving away from the others, Harry found a quiet spot in the woods and conjured his Patronus, then cast the charm. "Hi, Tonks," he began, trying to find the right words for this. "There's been -- well. Mr. Lovegood, Luna's father, has been captured, and they're threatening to use him to get Luna to come back. You can't tell anyone she's alive, or he'll be killed. We need to get him out of there - is there any way you could find out where he is? If it's too dangerous, I'll understand, I don't want you to get hurt. But if we knew where he was, maybe we could try to do-- something. Just be careful, okay? And so will I."
Sending the message calmed Harry down a little bit, though he was still shaking with anger; at least he was doing something. He ended the spell and watched the silver stag canter off into the darkness, hoping he wasn't going to start something in motion that would get Tonks - and possibly Lupin, and the rest of them - in trouble too.
