WHO: Daphne & Harry
WHERE: Home
WHEN: Lets say during the day for once
WHAT: Baby talk
RATING: we'll see
STATUS: Closed/complete

After lying to Harry for what had to have been the second or third time about wanting a kid, Daphne decided it was time to let him know the truth. While she knew he wouldn't like hearing it, she didn't want to lie to him. He was her husband and eventually, they would have a child. Why not at least express the want to have one and be honest about it for once? It wasn't as if they took any precautions against having one anyway. Either way, it was bound to happen whether or not he liked it or whether or not either one of them were ready. But the truth was, Daphne really wanted a child. Why, she wasn't sure, but she felt ready.

She had been on a walk just beyond their property with the dogs when this had dawned on her. She needed to tell him sooner rather than later. She couldn't lie anymore. So, turning around on her walk, she trekked back to their house, dogs either in tow or playing just ahead of her. Her cat lurked around someplace, but she had no bloody idea where. Someplace was a good enough guess. Sighing as she reached the house, Daphne slowly opened the door, spotting Harry on the couch. Closing it behind her, she gathered her nerves and exhaled slowly.

"Harry," she began, taking a big breath one last time before she spoke. "I want a child whether or not you want one. I'm tired of lying about it. I want to have a baby." She could have very well fainted after saying that, but she kept her composure, hands going to her hips as she waited.

Furrowing her brows slightly, Daphne leaned back into the couch and crossed her legs comfortably. She didn't want him to hold himself back, but she really didn't want to force him into anything he didn't want. And if that meant waiting, Daphne could wait, she just didn't want to. Then again, not everything was about her anymore. They were a team and decisions needed to be made together. And if they weren't made together, Daphne knew she could trust Harry's decision. He'd make a choice that would work out in all cases.

Her fingers stroked his hands gently as she listened, thinking about what he was saying. "I don't think you're worrying too much, but he's right about life passing you by. I don't want you to miss out on something that's supposed to be special. We already didn't have our picture perfect wedding, but if we do one thing correct while we're married, I want it to be our child."

She smiled reassuringly, removing on of her hands from his and resting it on his cheek gently. "I think you'll be a great father, Harry. You're a wonderful husband, and you have the compassion to be a wonderful father, too."

Had he known that Daphne had such confidence in his decisions, he might have bored a bit to help him feel confident toward the decision he was going to have to make. Knowing that he ultimately had to decide, particularly when it came to children, he'd been driving himself crazy fretting over it. There was just too may factors to take into account and there was always one that would interact and cause problems with another. This wasn't Quidditch or even a case for work. There weren't clean cut lines to follow. He was on his own ... they were on their own.

He didn't think waiting would result in him missing out ... but he could be wrong. What if he took the chance and he did miss out? What if Daphne missed out because of him? He'd always wanted just a simple, ordinary life. Having a family would offer him that. Mr. Weasley had been adamant on that and it had left Harry feeling far better about the situation, but ultimately it would be Daphne who would help him through this. If she had confidence in him, then surely they could do this.

"You'll make sure I don't miss this all up, won't you?"

She sighed, figuring she'd have to fight her case a bit more. That wouldn't be too bad, she figured. It's not like they needed to be pregnant right away. She just wanted him to know that she wanted a baby and if it had to be with anyone in the world, she was glad it was with him. After all they had been through, good and bad, she thought this was the best way to settle down. Marriage may have had its ups and downs, but it was supposed to. Having a child may be able to neutralize the arguments while they both had something to focus on other than work and each other.

And to have one thing be so dependent on you had to be a good feeling. She depended on Harry just to be there and be a good husband, just as he was doing, but to have someone depend fully on her for everything would have been something special for her. But if he wanted to wait, if he really wanted to wait, she'd wait with him.

Hearing what he said, her heart skipped a beat as she almost excitedly smiled. "Harry, you'd never be able to mess up. You're already a perfect husband, and I know you'll be a perfect father. I just know it. We're a team and we can do this," she said with a smile, as if it were really about to happen.

It felt better knowing that he wouldn't be alone in this. He'd known it before, but it still felt good to be reassured. While Daphne was excited about having someone depends on her to that degree, Harry was a little nervous. He'd had people depend on him before and he knew for a fact that it rarely went as they hoped. He didn't want that to happen to them.

Daphne's entire body language told him all he really needed to know to make a decision. Like Mr. Weasley had said, everyone was nervous about being a parent and everyone had doubts, but to let them run your life wasn't the most beneficial action. Daphne wanted this. Badly. How could he possibly say no to her? He couldn't. Not about this.

"We're going to end up with a girl. I just know it," he responded, hiding a small smile with a sigh. "I'm going to be even more lost than I am now."

Daphne really did want to have a kid. She really didn't know why, but it was something she felt was necessary. Loving Harry as much as she did caused her to want that even more. She sighed, almost a dreamy sigh, before she completely pounced on Harry. Yes, it was a bit much, but she needed him to know that they were in this together, and she was really excited to know that someday they'd have a baby together.

She completely smothered his face in kisses before reaching his lips, grabbing him in a kiss, smiling the whole time. "You're not going to be lost," she said with a laugh, kissing him again. "You have me, and we're in this together," she said, laughing some more. And in all honesty, Daphne really wanted a girl. Well, she wanted a boy, too. She really wanted both, but that would mean two babies and she was sure Harry it take a while to get over the initial shock of just one.

"Are you sure you're ready?" She asked, pausing a moment and looking at him in a worried manner. She didn't want to rush him, which she wouldn't if she had anything to do with it, but she just wanted to make sure.

He felt something stir in his chest when she sighed happily. He wanted to make her happy. He wanted to be happy with her and if this was what would accomplish that then he would try his very best to ensure that it happened. He wasn't sure if he could say he was ready .... ultimately, he didn't really care for that term. It was a little too cut and dry for a situation like this.

"I don't think anyone can really be ready for this," he responded, after she had released him from her kiss. It was a lot to be ready for and you could never tell what was going to happen or how everything would turn out. "but, I don't want to give this up, either. I'm not going to be completely ready whether we have a child now or three years from now. Learn as you go, right?"

He'd voiced the concern of being ready with Arthur and he could safely say that his outlook at the current moment had been greatly influenced by the older man. He never thought he'd see the day when he would turn to Mr. Weasley for this sort of advice ... but, in the end, he was glad he had.

She was probably too excited now and that wasn't the best of things. She should have been much more calm, so as he talked, Daphne calmed herself, sitting back where she was, her excited smile disappearing as a solemn one took its place. She wanted him to be happy about this, excited even, but she knew he was afraid of failing. He could never fail, not her at least. Daphne knew Harry could do whatever he set his mind to, and if that meant setting his mind towards having a baby, she knew he could do it.

"Learn as you go," she repeated with a nod. That's actually what they did with their marriage, was it not? They learned more and more about ... each other, their past, everything, every single day they've been married. While Daphne knew and felt that she was prepared for this, he may not have been.

"I'll be there for you every step of the way, Harry. You're not in this alone." She smiled, though it was followed up by a laugh. "All you have to do have sex with me. I doubt your job will be too hard," she teased, grinning at him a bit.

Harry had thought along the same lines as Daphne as he'd listened to Arthur. There marriage had certainly been a learning experience. Given the circumstances, it really couldn't have been anything but. Despite barely knowing each other when they were married, things were turning out for what he thought was the best. They were happy with each other and in all honesty, if they could make a marriage work on such a small foundation then surely the two of them could handle this next step.

He didn't laugh at her comment, but he did find an amused smile. It wasn't that he was hesitant or anything, it was the fact that he was much more relieved by the fact that she would be beside him in this then he was amused at her take of what he had to do.

"That part I know how to do," he responded, putting an arm around her and pulling her closer to him. "It's the rest of the stuff that I'll need the help with."

That was right. If they could build a marriage on what little they had when they got married, then they could succeed with a child. She'd be there every step of the way, through the good and the bad and she'd help him. If not, she had her mother who'd try to help out and he had the Weasley family. That right there was proof that having kids wasn't so bad. They had a whole brood!

As he pulled her to him, she rested against him loosely, and smiled. "I'll help you," she said solemnly, smiling some more. "You'll make a really great father, Harry. I can tell."
