WHO: Daphne Greengrass & Adrian Pucey
WHAT: Shopping, clearly.
WHERE: Diagon Alley
WHEN: Now, god dammit.
STATUS: Incomplete/closed
RATING: Probably PG-13 for language

As much as drinking sounded like a good idea to Daphne, when she was nosing through Adrian's journal entry, she noticed that he had mentioned he lacked a broom. Now if he were to play Quidditch professionally, that obviously would not do, but that wouldn't be a problem soon. She'd fix him up with a decent enough one and he would have earned it. Out of all the people Daphne had a love/hate, or even hate/hate relationship with, Adrian was by far her favorite. The girl was absolutely glowing with pride lately, so giving was all she could think of doing. It was definitely Harry's fault, especially after the morning he left for Scotland. Regardless of how unlikely they were and how terribly awkard, Daphne definitely loved him. Bloody hell, that was weird to think of.

She was already in Diagon Alley just poking around as she waiting for Adrian to show. A coffee in one hand and the other idly playing with her hair, she paced back and forth in front of Quality Quidditch Supplies. Telling Adrian she needed his help with someone for Harry was a pretty cheesy idea, but it was just a cheap ploy to get him to Diagon and it apparently worked. Plus, if he knew what was good for him, he'd show. It wouldn't be long, she hoped, though as she paced, she finished off her coffee quickly and tossed it before leaning up against the building, pulling out a fag and lighting it. Daphne hadn't smoked in ages, but why not when she had the time? Plus, she just felt the need to be relieved in such a way. And it worked.

"I really don't feel like going into broom-buying semantics with you. The fact that it's made by the same company that produces the Firebolt should be all the proof you need, assuming you've ever seen someone fly one. I've never been on one myself-- had to borrow one of the school's Comets when I played on the house team, until Malfoy's dad gave us all 2001's. And even then, I didn't get to keep it. Decided to reserve it for other future players who wouldn't have the money to afford their own," he scoffed, idly running his hands over the fine polish of the handle again.

He then rolled his eyes as she flirted and quarreled with the poor, unsuspecting sales clerk. She really didn't know anything about buying professional sports equipment, did she? Not that it mattered-- with both her and Harry's finances combined, they could probably buy out the whole fucking store if they wanted.

"Can we, please? The more fucking time we spend in here, the more depressed I am," he huffed, dropping his forehead to her shoulder.

Daphne just nodded and exited the store. She didn't want him to be upset after all, or at least she didn't want him to completely piss himself in the store when she gave him the broom. Resting her head on top of Adrian's, Daphne sighed contently, moving her head to the side slightly to give him a friendly kiss on the top of the head. "You have no reason to be depressed," she said, shouldering his head off of her afterwards.

Turning to him once they were out of the store, she held the broom out in front of him. "Congratulations on making the team. Or at least having a good interview. I think you deserve this," she said with a sincere smile. She couldn't have held out much longer, even if she wanted to. "And the gloves were just a little something extra," she added with a shrug, smiling as she waited for a reaction. Hopefully he'd like his new present.

"I shouldn't have any reason to be, no, except that you bullied me into coming into my favourite bloody shop just so that I could look at what I can't have," he replied, the friendly kiss to his forehead entirey ineffectual as he exhaled, letting out a soft sigh.

And then she was trying to offer the broom to him. His eyebrows raised marginally, and he blinked at the gesture, giving her a bit of a pointed look without actually taking the broom. "That's not fucking funny."

She had to be lying.

Daphne rolled her eyes. He just didn't get it, but she wasn't about to go help explaining things to him and friendlier terms. And the fact that he wasn't taking the broom was an outright insult to her. Especially since she just bitched about paying so god damn much. Daphne hardly did that when it came to herself, but Adrian, as a close friend, deserved this and she didn't care about the price. If it made him happy, she was happy.

When he continued to not take it, Daphne glared slightly, almost tempted to drop it on the ground just to see how bloody much he wanted it. Harry didn't need a broom, he didn't play Quidditch, shite. She continued to glare, letting him know that this was not a fucking joke.

She'd give it another thirty seconds before she gave it to some hag walking down the alley.

Poor Adrian, he simply couldn't grasp the idea that someone might actually give him a "gift" other than a standard pack of smokes. (And he did enjoy those rare occasions where Millicent might spare a few Winstons for him.) He didn't have birthdays, and he and his mum couldn't afford to exchange anything with one another during the holidays, no matter how much overtime she might work for Twilfit and Tatting's.

But he would eventually take the broom from her, abeit a bit reluctantly.

"You know they haven't officially recruited me yet, right?"

She sighed as she waited for him to take the broom, though once he did, she was relieved, which meant for celebration. A fag was in order and once she pulled them out of her bag, she put on in her mouth and lit it before sticking one in Adrian's mouth, also lighting it. There was no question, she was sure he wanted one just as bad as her.

A small shrug was given about him not being recruited yet, but she remembered watching him play back at school and he had the talent to get recruited. Definitely. "You'll make the team," she said, sure of herself. There really was no reason why he shouldn't, and with that broom, he'd be the fastest flier on the team. "Plus, you deserved it," Daphne added, offering a shrug.

He blinked once again as he found a cigarette between his lips, lit and ready to go, though he didn't immediately take to smoking it. He was still in a state of disbelief and surprise that someone would actually give him something this nice and expensive, and with no strings attached.

Because he deserved it. But did he, really? Not that he was going to argue the point with her and insult her by rejecting it, but still, looking back...

Oh, sod that. He must've done something right if someone had willingly put this broom in his hands.

"Aside from the given 'thank you' I don't think I quite know what to say," he admitted, the cigarette dangling between his lips.

Daphne smirked with satisfaction. Her work here was done, he got his broom and his fag and he was almost speechless. He owed her absolutely nothing, not even friendship if he didn't want to put the effort into it. It was just something she wanted to do.

Shrugging, Daphne gave him a slight nudge. "No need to say anything. Not even thank you if you don't want. Don't thank me anyway, you needed a broom and now you have one." She took a drag off of her fag and flicked the ashes that had already formed at the other end.

"Just promise me when you get big and famous, you won't forget me," she said with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood some.

"What do you mean for me to not thank you? Of course I'm going to fucking properly thank you, just--" he stopped, holding up his hand for a moment before gently setting both the broom and gloves down, and thus commenced the happy clinging.

Which he didn't often do, and it would likely warrant him a raised brow and awkward shoving away. But he didn't care. Not many things made him happy-- aside from stale cigarettes, Quidditch, and the knowledge that he didn't actually have to "work" to survive. And while he wasn't exactly a materialistic person (he'd never had any reason to be, having never truly owned anything of value before), this would be one of those rare occasions when the act of gift giving stole his heart.

"Thank you thank you thank you and thank you, and there really is more that I could say, but at the risk of getting carried away and saying something stupid I won't. So thank you, again."

Daphne was definitely taken aback by the clinging, as it just wasn't his character, but she wouldn't push him away. Rather, she put her arms around him and hugged him. She was there for whatever he needed, even if he just wanted to use her for her money, Daphne was there. Adrian was her verbal outlet and while that sounded really shitty, Daphne really appreciated him for being around for her.

"Don't even thank me, Adrian. Just play good, yeah? And make sure you autograph my body sometime. I've always wanted someone famous to do that," she said with a shrug, pulling back some. Daphne laughed, at least he liked his broom and she prayed he'd take good care of it and that he'd be playing professionally soon. He had it in him, she knew it.
