WHO: Roger and Asteria
WHEN: Backdated to Monday
WHERE: Roger's Home
WHAT: Moving In
RATING: prolly light
STATUS: Closed / In Progress

This was the part Asteria had nervously dreaded. It really had nothing to do with Roger. She actually liked him. He was sweet and had gone out of his way to make her as comfortable as possible, which went a long way with her. Her nervousness stemmed from being firmly taken from her home and replanted in a space that didn't really seem to belong to her. In a weird sense it was almost like Hogwarts again...though, thankfully without the large number of people.

So far, she thought she was doing rather well. She'd only managed to break three objects by dropping them and there had been a moment where she hadn't heard Roger approach and he'd startled her when he had asked her a question. Other then that, she was slowly getting the hanging of this living with someone else business. On top of that, she had suddenly realized that she had a lot of stuff ... far too much stuff.

Some of the things she'd be sending to her parents. All the things she really wouldn't need would be sent to her room there. There was no point in cluttering up Roger's apartment with useless objects.

It wasn't until he mentioned dinner that she realized how hungry she actually was. Thinking back on the day, she could remember having a muffin that morning as well as some tea but anything after that was a blur of boxes and moving. Finding her way into the kitchen, she stepped up beside him at the counter, eying the boxes.

"Oooh. Satay gai." she grinned, her eyes lighting up at the familiar items. He had not needed to worry about whether she liked thai food. If it was Asian in origin the chance of her liking it were high. Thai and Japanese happening to be her two favourites. Spotting the chopsticks on the counter, she picked them up and stole a piece of the chicken from the box.

"Mmm." she sighed, softly, leaning her hip against the counter. For once, she was just too tired and hungry to worry about protocol. "This is so good."

Roger couldn't help but grin as Asteria snatched the chopsticks from the counter and dug in. It was actually pretty cute, the way she completely shucked off the manners he knew were engrained in her. Seeing her in such a casual and relaxed state made Roger only want to keep her like this forever. When she was like this, Roger had no doubt in his mind that he would fall in love with her. He only wondered if she could ever feel the same way for him.

Roger fished out another pair of chopsticks and followed Asteria's example, but with the pad thai. He absolutely loved pad thai, and it had been a deal breaker with one of his ex-girlfriends when he found out she was deathly allergic to peanuts. So much so that he couldn't even eat them in danger of causing an allergic reaction that could possibly kill her.

"Glad to see you like Thai," Roger said after chewing and swallowing a large mouthful. "I got a little nervous that you wouldn't."

If Roger continued being as sweet as he was, he really had no reason to fear Asteria not growing attached to him. She had to admit, she was a closet romance fan and the adorable attitude and actions were falling right into that category.

"I love Thai." she smiled up at him before peeking into the other boxes on the counter. He'd done well, choosing some of the best items and covering a wide variety. "Thai and Japanese are my favourite." she added, taking another piece of chicken. Though, in all honesty, there were few things she didn't like.

"Sorry, if I'm a little hard to handle at the moment," she responded, hearing that he had been nervous. She really didn't like making him feel that way, particularly after he'd been so nice to her. "It'll get better, I promise. I'm trying really hard not to be such a bother."

"You're not being a bother," Roger said firmly, though that was all he intended to say on the matter. There was no point arguing about it, or bringing more attention to the issue. Asteria would come to terms with the arrangement when she did, and Roger was alright with waiting.

"Though I'm not sure I'll feel comfortable with ordering you sushi," Roger shrugged as he continued to eat, "at least not until I go with you, so I can see what you like." Roger had a good memory--it was his best asset in quidditch--and he was confident that he could remember something as simple as a dinner order if he could manage to remember hundreds of plays.

It was a bother, she knew that better then anyone, but she wasn't going to push the subject. She knew and would attempt to make it as easy on him as she possibly could.

Turning so her back was leaning against the counter, she watched him for several moments while she continued with the Satay Gai. So far he'd been nothing but sweet and that in itself went a long way with her. He was trying to make her as comfortable as possible and she could see that. Perhaps she should really try to get past this whole forced marriage issue. He was a nice guy and she wondered if perhaps she wouldn't have ended up with such a good choice had this whole thing not pushed them together.

Finally, she smiled lightly, taking a step closer to him and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. She had to use her toes to reach that height, but she managed just fine. "Thank you."

Roger had been kissed by plenty of girls, just about everywhere on his body, but he'd never been quite as taken aback as Asteria had just made him. She had always been so proper and so...distant, he had never expected her to make the first move. Over the past few days he'd been trying to acclimate her to his physical touch, but he'd never dared to actually kiss her. Not even her hand. He'd been thinking he might try that soon, however. But with the change of events, he might be moving things a little quicker.

"You're welcome," Roger finally said, making his voice as warm as possible to make up for the slight delay. She'd surprised him so much that he hadn't said anything initially. Hopefully she didn't misinterpret it for a lack of interest. He decided to rest his free hand over hers, because he felt that some sort of reaction would be appropriate.

There was a moment when she thought she might have overstepped a line, but when he finally did respond she relaxed visibly. She was taking small steps but they seemed to be working out rather well. With any luck, it wouldn't be too long before she started to feel at home, instead of as a guest in someone else's home.

Having been the one to kiss him, her cheeks had immediately heated up when she'd pulled away. Not very often did she ever initiate physical contact...at least with someone she had barely knew. Adverting her eyes shyly, as she switched from one container of food to an entirely new one.

Roger had to admit that there was something undeniably alluring about Asteria. He'd been with plenty of girls, and plenty of them were much more aggressive, but somehow Asteria's shy nature drew him in more than any of the others did. He was impressed by her actions, and decided not to push, and instead let her switch to a new container of food.

He decided to bring up a topic of conversation as well, just to entirely move on from the moment. "Is there anything else we need to pick up from your place? I don't mind running over there after dinner if you want. So you can keep moving stuff. And, well, I know I said this before, but feel free to move anything but my brooms. Anything else is totally fine if you want it for your stuff."

She glanced back up to him when he asked if there was anything else to move. For a moment, she paused, thinking over all the stuff that had been moved and the number of boxes she'd counted in the living room. No, she was pretty sure that was everything was here.

"No, I believe we've successfully moved everything," she smiled lightly, leaning back against the counter. "Besides, if I had anymore stuff, you'd need two apartments." That certainly was the truth. Half the stuff, she couldn't even remember buying and had no idea why she even had it. She would be most certainly sending some things to her mother's. She doubted Daphne and Harry would need any extra things, so it might as well go to her mother. She'd be able to find some use for it. She usually did.

"I'm sure we could find more room if we absolutely needed it," Roger said a grin. If worst came to worst, he could look at finding them a bigger flat, or get a storage unit somewhere for anything else. "Just don't feel limited."

He picked up another box, stirring it up and taking a large bite. He hadn't had Thai in a very long time, and he was glad that they were both enjoying it together.

"Do you have any good friends at work?" He vaguely remembered meeting some people at the wedding, but he couldn't really tell how close they were.

"There's no need, really. Half of my stuff isn't even useful." she insisted, not wanting him to have to go through the trouble of attempting to find new places and moving his own stuff. If they were going to be living together, they might as well start sharing the space. "I have some extra space in my close, back home. All the extra can go there. It's really only a quick trip over if I need anything."

She frowned slightly when he mentioned friends at work. "Hmm," he pondered for a moment. She wouldn't exactly call them friends. They were more of acquaintances. People she talked to in order to get her job done and survive in that sort of environment. "Well, Harper's on level two and Daphne's on six."

She figured that might seem a bit odd or standoffish to some, but to her that was just what she wanted. She could manage what she had going with ease and that was what she needed. "What about you?" she asked, in return. "I suppose all of you are rather close, right?"

The message came through loud and clear. Asteria really wasn't all that friendly with her coworkers, and Roger wasn't all that surprised. He just hoped that she would eventually get along with people, perhaps when she advanced in the ministry.

"Can't work as hard as we do and not be close," Roger shrugged, "after long matches we'll all go out and have a drink. Lynch isn't always the closest with us, but that's just his way. I wouldn't know what to do if he wanted to be best mates with us."

Given her quiet nature it was common to have people think she was merely being stuck up, but she really wasn't. She was just shy. She couldn't really complain though, she'd grown used to it a long time ago and really didn't see the point in worrying over it. They'd eventually learn the truth or they wouldn't.

"So, best not to expect you home until later on those nights?" she asked, with a teasing smile. Perhaps it was the environment, or simply the heavy fact that they were now married that made it a bit easier for her to relax with him. She didn't know, but she wasn't questioning it. It was ultimately what she wanted, so she really didn't mind it happening sooner then she had expected.

"Is Lynch the captain?" she asked, curiously. She remembered meeting him and perhaps Roger had already told her, but she couldn't recall.

Roger couldn't help but laugh when Asteria asked if Lynch was the Captain. "No love, I'm the Captain. Lynch is the coach."

Wouldn't Lynch just love to hear someone mistaking him for the Captain of the team? Lynch always said that he did enough work that he should be a member of the team.

"Hmm, most nights I think I'll be back after a drink or two. If I can escape the paparazzi."

"Oh," she responded, flushing slightly. Surely, she was the only person in the Wizarding world who didn't know anything about Quidditch. Even her mother knew more then she did. Granted, up until this point she had never needed to know it. "You'll have to teach me about this whole Quidditch thing." she admitted, somewhat sheepishly. "I'm afraid I really don't know anything about the game."

She'd ask Mikael in the past about Roger's team in the past and he'd just said he'd look into it...which meant, he filed it away and had no plans to actually do anything with it. Mikael was her best friend but sometimes she truly wanted to throttle him, it didn't help that she knew from experience that she could.

Her nose scrunched up at the thought of paparazzi. "Are they truly terrible?" he asked, slightly nervous. For the most part, she could avoid them, but sooner or later they were actually going to have to leave the house together.

"I'll teach you as much as you want to learn," Roger said with a shrug. It really wasn't that much, it just seemed like it was because Asteria really seemed to know absolutely nothing about Quidditch. "It's not that hard, you'll pick it up if you want to."

At the question of the paparazzi, Roger couldn't help but sigh. They really were as horrid as people had heard, and it could get exhausting trying to deal with them. If he was lucky, he'd be able to keep them away from Asteria.

"I'd really appreciate that." she smiled brightly. If she was going to go to some of his games, she wanted to know what was going on. She didn't want to be completely ignorant when he was excited about something. They were in this together and she wanted to be interested in what he did.

When he sighed at her last question, she interpreted that for his answer. "That bad, huh?" she asked, managing a small smile. "Well, I'm sure we'll manage just fine." She was a little scared of having to face them, but it wouldn't be facing them alone. Roger would be there and that thought was comforting.

"If I can, I'll keep them away from the house," Roger said with a smile that had a hint of exhaustion behind it. He'd been working very hard to keep the paparazzi from discovering the location of his flat, and he had a feeling that it was only going to get harder. Merlin knew some of the more aggressive ones--the ones who "thought out of the box"--would probably try to follow Asteria home, and he wasn't sure what to tell her about that. Though if he was lucky, maybe they'd keep following Pansy and Oliver around instead of him and Asteria.

"But you shouldn't worry about that just yet."

Asteria smiled. "Don't stress yourself out over it. It'll be fine. I can always get the boys to put up some stronger wards, if you like. They're quite good at that sort of thing." She wouldn't push the issue, because in all honesty, she didn't mind not having any. She would handle it...or learn to. She was quite determined to. She didn't want to have to worry about it. She just wanted her quite life and she'd be including Roger in that as well, even if she had to make some changes.

""I'll be fine." she assured him again. And she would. It would take some work, but she'd get there.

It wasn't wards that was the issue, but Roger decided not to push it. There wasn't much point. He was sure she'd learn the reality of the situation soon enough anyway.

"Do you want any desert after?" Roger asked as he polished off one of the boxes of the food. He had a bit of a sweet tooth at the moment, but he'd abstain if Asteria didn't feel like it.

She'd eaten quite a fair amount of the food Roger had ordered for them, but she did have a little bit of a sweet tooth. Depending on the item, she could do with indulging in a bit of desert. "What did you have in mind?" she asked curiously, moving to set her chopsticks in the sick and throw out some of their garbage.

It was quite different living with another person. She'd only really realized that when she had moved in with Roger. Even living at home hadn't been like that. Everyone had had their own room and their own part of the house they liked to frequent. It wasn't very often that they were all in the same area ... formal engagements and planned outings not withstanding. She couldn't say that she didn't like having another person around.

"I was thinking maybe some ice cream?" Roger suggested, "since its summer and all... But I could go for anything, really."

He opened up the door to his freezer and saw that it was empty, so he turned around with a shrug, "we could go get some. Or I could pick something up if you wanted to keep unpacking..."

She smiled at his suggestion. It was the prefect idea. The unpacking could wait. "I'd like to get ice cream." she responded, lightly. If nothing else it would give them an opportunity to ease some of the tension and nerves (on her part). It had been a busy day for the both of them and she was more then ready for a chance to relax a little.

She was a little dusty from moving and such, but for the first time in a long while, she really didn't care. She didn't want to change, she didn't want to do anything really, except spend some time with Roger, just .... doing regular, everyday things. "Just let me find my shoes."

"I think I saw a pair that was trying to migrate under the couch," Roger suggested, wracking his brain for other odd places that shoes might have ended up. There was a lot of stuff here, and Merlin knew where any of it ended up. Asteria was meticulous, but even she couldn't contain the mess that had started to form in his flat.

"What sort of ice cream do you want, love?" Roger asked, wondering what flavor he intended to get for himself. He headed for the front door, checking his pockets to see if he still had money. "There's this great muggle place with all sorts of strange flavors, if you want to try something new."

She laughed but went to check the spot. Sure enough, she could see the pink toe of one of her flats sticking out. She had to duck down in order to reach the other one, but she managed, standing up again to step into them. "Okay, we're good." she smiled, following after him to the door.

She didn't know what sort of flavour she was going to get. Normally, she just got strawberry, but she thought something new might be nice as well. "I'm willing to try something new if you are." At least with ice cream, something new didn't mean anything too frightening. It was just ice cream after all.

"Is it far from here?" she asked, not exactly knowing the area. It would take her a bit to familiarize herself with it, but the great thing about being a witch was that she could simply apparate home if she was lost.

"Sure," Roger nodded with a grin, "we'll try each others out and see who got the better venture."

"What's your favorite, so I can be sure you're not going back on our deal," Roger laughed as he opened the door, offering her his hand to hold. The place wasn't that far, just a couple of blocks, and it would be a nice walk. The evening was mild temperature, and the streets were relatively empty. It could be a lovely end to a good, and surprisingly unstressful, day.

She blushed lightly when he offered to hold her hand, but accepted it immediately, letting her smaller hand fit perfectly in his own. "It's strawberry." she offered, with a light laugh. "But it's only fair you tell me what yours is. I might decide to randomly bring home ice cream and candy."

The suggestion was really not that far off. She did like ice cream and her favourite kind of sweets were jelly beans and gummi candies. Her brother had once brought her an entire bag of little green gummi frogs from one of his trips and she'd been in love with them ever since.

"I've got a couple of favorites," Roger said with a shrug, "cookie dough...Mint chocolate chip...And sometimes just plain vanilla."

"Perhaps I'll have to try strawberry, I've never really had it. Neither of my parents cared for it, so I didn't grow up with it."

He led the way down the street, smiling as they passed other couples, wondering how he and Asteria looked to them. Did they look natural, or loving? Or could the muggles who knew nothing about the situation tell that they were forced together and trying desperately to make it work?

She was surprised that he'd never tried strawberry, particularly since it was a popular flavour. Though, she couldn't really say anything, she'd never really tried Mint Chocolate Chip. The very idea of mint in ice cream wasn't exactly appealing to her. "Everyone likes vanilla. It's classic ice cream."

For her part, Asteria wasn't exactly thinking about how they appeared to others. She'd never really put much stock in what other people thought and was more concerned with what Roger, himself thought. From her perspective, things had been going rather smoothly...but that didn't mean that he thought the same. Smooth for her, didn't necessarily mean smooth for him.

"Some people actually don't," Roger said with a laugh, thinking of an ex-girlfriend he'd been with, who positively hated vanilla. She only ate coffee ice cream, and Roger had developed somewhat of a taste for that flavor as well. Perhaps he'd develop a taste for strawberry as well.

"But I think we should both get something crazy," Roger said, turning the corner and pointing out the small ice cream parlor. There was a small line, but Roger didn't really mind.

She glanced up at him incredulously when he said that some people didn't like Vanilla. That just seemed silly. "How could someone not like vanilla. You can do so much with it; chocolate, caramel, bananas, fresh strawberries." She stopped there, knowing she was going to make herself crave that very thing and she wanted to stick to trying something new.

Unlike her sister, Asteria really didn't venture that far into the Muggle world. It wasn't for lack of interest, it was merely that she could always find what she was looking for in the familiar corners of Wizarding society. It was easier to stick to what she knew rather then venture out, though she had a feeling that with Roger, she'd be spending a bit more time trying new things and she honestly found herself somewhat excited about it.

"Something crazy?" she asked, wondering just what sort of flavours the store could have. "What's your definition of crazy?"

As they closed the distance between them and the ice cream place, Roger shrugged, he didn't really have anything specific in mind.

When they finally entered the small building, Roger looked at the menu, letting his eyes glaze over his usual favorites. Flavors like cinnamon raisin, toffee crunch, and blackberry jumped out at him, but he turned to see what Asteria was looking at.

"Anything look good to you?"

Asteria had forgone the list of flavours and had approached the glass to look at the different tubs of ice cream. There were flavours in there she didn't even recognize. Like that strange orange one in the corner.

"Roger? Is that one pumpkin?" she asked, quietly so the woman at the counter wouldn't hear her. If it was it looked very strange. "I think there's something wrong with it. What's that black stuff?"

Had she known what the flavour was to begin with she might not have asked such ridiculous questions ... granted, if she had known that the questions were ridiculous she wouldn't have even asked them.

"I....well, I don't know. Let's steer away from that and go for something a little less crazy. Like cake batter, or cinnamon raisin," Roger suggested, after realizing that he didn't have any idea why the pumpkin ice cream looked so strange. Not that he'd get it anyway, he'd never really cared for pumpkin, and thus never drank the pumpkin juice at Hogwarts.

"They even have cotton candy and bubblegum," Roger said with more than a little shock in his voice. He'd never imagined that ice cream would come in these sorts of flavors....
